Chapter 15 he came to pick me
Amelia’s P.O.V.
“We should have brought more people with us, Amelia. Marcus is right. It can be an ambush. After going through so much, we can’t trust them.” Arthur was so anxious that it felt as if he were on pins and needles. ambush
“Relax, Arthur. This is for our people. If this is the end, so be it. We two are more than enough to fight with them. We don’t need to put more lives at risk.” I comforted him calmly.
To be honest, I was also anxious, but I couldn’t let it come to my face.
“They are here.” Arthur yelled anxiously, making my heart skip a beat too in fear.
I wanted to hit him, but I sensed two vehicles approaching us from a distance.
I stood up from the fallen log where I had been sitting for the past fifteen minutes.
Arthur took my hand, still taking a protective stance when he was scared to death.
“Relax, Arthur. Don’t let them affect you.” I comforted him lowly while looking at the coming vehicles.
I narrowed my eyes when I felt his presence. The vehicles were still at a good distance, but the power of his presence was overwhelming.
“You…. you said that he would send someone to pick us up. Why is he here?” Arthur asked me anxiously.
Arthur was a regular warrior before he was thrown out of his pack, making him a rogue.
“I don’t know. He didn’t mention that he would come.” I replied to him, looking at the vehicle with a serious gaze.
What the hell was he thinking coming by himself? I never tried to hide myself from the world, but getting so much attention from the world?
I would be in grave danger because of him.
I stared at the vehicles blankly, not knowing how to react right now.
The car stopped in front of us, and Beta Hunter got off the car.
“Greetings, Beta Hunter.” I and Arthur greeted him formally, bowing our heads in front of him, showing our respect to him.
To my surprise, he got off alone. He should be accompanied by one or two warriors, but none got off with him.
“Greetings, Amelia. It’s good to see you standing on your feet.” He greeted back, but I could sense the sarcasm in his tone.
I didn’t reply to him but smiled faintly. Their hatred towards the rogues is not something that could be changed in one day.
Even if we are the victims, we are still rogues, a subject for their hatred.
“Please come with me, Amelia.” He gestured for me to get inside the car behind him.
“And Arthur?” I asked him immediately, taking Arthur’s hand protectively. His hand was sweaty because of the fear.
“He will travel with us in the second car.” Beta Hunter replied to me calmly, but he was impatient now.
Arthur trembled hard in fear, tightening the grip on my hand.
“My apologies, Beta Hunter, but I will travel with my assistant.” I said to him firmly, looking straight in his direction.
“You surely have a bigger ego given the fact that you are a rogue, Amelia. You dare to throw a tantrum in front of the king.” He commented sarcastically.
If he weren’t the royal beta, and we needed their help, I would have attacked him by now.
“This is not about ego, Beta Hunter. This is about the safety of my own people. It’s the same as people in a pack.” I replied calmly.
Arthur’s grip tightened on my hand again. Beta Hunter was angry, but he had no retort against what I said.
“Let him come with us, Hunter.” A cold shiver ran through my spine when his cold voice echoed around us.
“This way.” Beta Hunter muttered, suppressing his anger.
“Thanks, Beta Hunter.” I was still respectful in my tone, but this wasn’t necessary now.
“You need to sit in the passenger’s seat.” Beta Hunter said to Arthur.
“Th…. Thank you, Beta Hunter.” Arthur thanked him fearfully.
I sighed and walked towards the backseat door hesitantly.
Staying in a close space with the king didn’t sit well in my guts.
I was so uncomfortable that I wanted to change seats with either Beta Hunter or Arthur, but I knew that it wouldn’t be the right move from me.
After taking a deep breath, I opened the door and got inside the car.
“Greetings, my king.” I greeted him formally, keeping my expression calm.
“Amelia.” He greeted back coolly. I sat down on the seat and closed the door. It was good that the car had handrails in the middle of the seat, parting the seats in an equal space.
Hunter was in the driver’s seat, which intrigued me. It seemed that he switched places with the driver.
“You are very protective towards your assistant.” The king remarked indifferently. I smiled but didn’t look in his direction.
“He is like an older brother to me, my king. If it weren’t for him, Luca, and Marcus, I wouldn’t be alive today.” I replied to him, my gratitude towards the three most important men in my life was evident in my tone.
“You mentioned it before.” He added in the same tone. My smile was still plastered on my lips.
“Are you comfortable talking about what happened before you turned rogue, Amelia?” The king asked me the next, making me go stiff immediately.
“I….. I beg your pardon, my king, b… but Amelia has p….psychological issues.” My grip on my laptop bag tightened when Arthur replied to the king before I could say a word.
The temperature in the car dropped and I felt suffocated.
The silence almost choked me. “Ummmm….. I didn’t expect you to come, my king.” I said to him calmly, changing the subject.
“Please, don’t mind the joke, but I think I now have something to brag about to people—that the king once came to pick me up.”
I only wanted to end this suffocating silence. So, I didn’t think before speaking and immediately regretted what I just said when I registered it.
“You must be over the moon.” Hunter mocked angrily.
I controlled my urge to retort. His sarcasm was getting on my nerves, but I reminded myself that I can endure this too.
I moved my face towards the window to avoid saying anything again. The car continued moving at a steady pace. The suffocation inside the car increased with every passing second.
“You can mind-link.” I stiffened when the king suddenly remarked in a low voice.
I slowly moved my face towards him, looking at him in confusion.
“You are a rogue, and mind-linking needs a connection between wolves.” He added and I smiled bitterly.
“You are right, my king. We are rogues, but we have accepted each other as family and a team. So, we also developed a mind-link with time.” I explained briefly, keeping my tone calm, but I wasn't getting a good vibe about this conversation.
