Chapter 16 need to endure
Amelia’s P.O.V. (Continued)
“Things don’t work like this in our species, Amelia. Given to your intelligence level, I am sure that you know this damn well.” The king grumbled angrily.
I had heard so many rumors about him and one of them is about him being hot-headed and short-tempered.
I realized that it wasn’t just a rumor. It was true.
The one thing they forgot to spread about his nature is how brainless he could be sometimes.
I agree that rogues can’t mind-link each other because of the absence of any bonding between them, but the people in my group were bonded together with pain and worry for each other.
“Or did you guys use some kind of witchcraft?” Hunter asked, using the same sarcastic tone.
I really don’t know how to keep my cool in front of this arrogant beta now. He wasn’t only testing my patience but also getting on my nerves.
“I beg your pardon, Beta Hunter, but do you really think that any witchcraft can make more than two hundred people mind-link without a bond? If… if this is really possible, why would we need permission for the throne to form a pack?” Arthur asked him in a polite and respectful tone, but one could easily sense sarcasm in his tone.
Hunter growled lowly this time, and I stiffened. “What the hell was wrong with you? We aren’t here to provoke them?” I yelled at Arthur through mind-link.
“You surely have a tongue, rogue.” Hunter was pissed, but the way he called Arthur a rogue, I clutched my grip on my laptop bag so tightly that my nails dug into the leather of the bag, despite the fact that I had my gloves on.
“Hunter.” The king growled in warning, but it didn’t make me feel better.
Their hatred towards rogues runs so deep that it couldn’t be erased by a few good rogues like us.
“Keep your mouth shut if you really want to go back alive, Arthur. This is not for us, but for our people. Endure this humiliation for them.” I instructed Arthur while reminding him why we were here at the first place.
“Why are you so secretive, Amelia?” The king asked me sarcastically.
“Endure it, Amelia. This is for your people. This is for your revenge.” I reminded myself too before moving my face towards the king again.
“You two are not planning to ambush me midway, right?” he asked again, the same tone, the same taunt.
“I am really thinking whether to laugh aloud or to doubt my understanding about my knowledge of hierachy in our kind, my king.” I asked him sarcastically this time.
I knew I was stepping on his tail, but everyone’s endurance has some limits, right?
“Care to explain your question, Amelia?” He asked using the same tone.
I should have learned a few girly tricks from Sylvia before coming to meet him.
Like pouting, whining, being a bit childish…..
Alas! I am just………………..me…..
“You are the king, and Beta Hunter is also of royal blood. Even if he is driving, he can kill both me and Arthur in two moves. So, if anyone should be worried about being ambushed, it should be me and Arthur.” I explained, keeping the things as simple as they can be.
He raised his brow, but I just sighed and looked down on the laptop bag.
I didn’t know for how long we would be in this car, but I really wanted to get out as quickly as possible.
“Although we are having a formal meeting after reaching the palace, I would like to hear the brief of your request.” He asked me again.
I took a deep breath and looked at him again. For the next few minutes, I explained to him briefly about our standing in the human world and also about how we are planning to build a pack for all of our people.
This also included how we are planning to have a proper land with a pack name. I didn’t get into details because I needed to explain them later in the formal meeting.
He listened to me silently, and for the first time after entering the car, I was at ease and the atmosphere in the car was normal.
“You said that you are planning to buy a big piece of land to build the pack. Do you know how much it will cost?” Hunter asked me after I finished the briefing.
“We have a rough estimate, Beta Hunter. With all our savings and a few loans from human banks, we will be able to buy the land.” I replied to him calmly.
“So, apart from the approval, what other resources do you want from the palace?” the king asked me, indifferent and cold in his tone.
“We are about to enter the pack, my king.” Hunter informed us at the same time when I was about to reply to the king.
I took a breath of relief in my heart and relaxed my grip on the laptop. The silence in the car was still suffocating, but I was relieved that we would be out of the car soon.
Suddenly, the king grabbed my hand, freezing me at this very instant.
“You are sensitive to touch. Because of what happened back then?” he asked me in a very low voice.
My breath was ragged as some memories suddenly surfaced like a bomb exploding in my mind.
His hold wasn’t tight, and I couldn’t feel his touch, but his grip still felt familiar.
“Amelia.” He called my name in a low and concerned voice, but the memories of those grips on my shoulder and on my neck made me feel trapped.
I wanted to snatch my hand away from his grip, but the fear had frozen all my muscles.
“Amelia…. Amelia.” I heard Arthur yelling my name in panic.
“Amelia, breathe.” I heard the king asking me to breathe, but I couldn’t.
For some reason, the pitch of his voice felt so familiar that fear gripped my heart.
I felt a tight grip around my neck, choking me badly.
Suddenly a familiar embrace held me tightly, and I gasped aloud for air.
“You are safe, kiddo. You are safe. No one is going to hurt you.” Arthur whispered while holding me tightly.
His voice was trembling in the same way it was when he held me before I lost my consciousness back then.
It was Luca who held me for the first time when they rescued me. Later, Arthur carried me all the way to their hideout. Even when I was unconscious, my body remembered his touch and his embrace.
“A…. Arthur.” I gasped. “I am here.” He whispered, holding my upper body tightly.
I closed my eyes and let the calmness take over my consciousness.
