KATHY
The servants finished packing up the beverages and a few other of my items and we left the premises.
When we got to the car, Alpha Damon opened the door of the back seat and waited for me to get in.
"You really don't have to.” I blushed.
Fine, I've been treated like a princess by Bryon and his servants, but it felt surreal coming from a stranger.
He joined me and closed the door.
"And countless times, I've told you it's not a bother. So, you should relax.”
I smiled and looked at him.
“If you insist. I only worry that I would get used to it.” I stated my fear.
And to my surprise, he began laughing. What was so funny?
"Is that all? Is that your fear? That's freaking trivial.”
"No, it's not. It would be a living hell for those around when I don't get this much attention when needed.”
He continued laughing.
“Alpha Damon...” I caught myself from completing my sentences when his eyes met mine.
“Sorry, Damon.” I corrected.
"More like it." He smiled and nodded. "You were saying?”
“I was meant to say that it wasn't a joke at all, I don't intend to be hilarious, and I don't know what it's so funny to you.”
"Noted." He managed.
His voice was still laced with amusement.
"You have a way of making the most serious thing appear hilarious, don't blame me.”
"No, it's so not on me.”
"Alright, noted ma'am.”
We continued the ride home and a few times I turned to look at him, I noticed his eyes on me, but I couldn't tell for how long or be bold enough to ask him so.
When we got to the pack’s mansion, the car packed in an open garage and the servants got down first, then Alpha Damon followed and in his usual way of making me happy, he opened the door and I stepped down.
“Thank you.” I said with a smile. I wasn't going to object or make a fuss about it. If he loves doing it, then I just need to be unconditionally happy.
“You’re welcome.” He responded.
The servants for my stuff down from the car’s trunk and they made their way to the mansion and to the first room by the alpha’s door, while Alpha Damon and I, trailed behind.
He held my hand in his and half of the time we walked, he was squeezing gently. Maybe it was a harmless comfort or to make me feel better after having lost my baby. But whichever, was okay by me. I only hoped he did it because he cared genuinely.
There was a door at the extreme, directly opposite another that had an initial 'A. D.’ Which I guessed represented Alpha Damon. One of the servants opened it and they carried my stuff in one by one until they were done.
Alpha Damon and I, watched from a distance. When they were done, they closed it back and walked towards our direction, as they exited.
"Anything else?" Alpha Damon asked no one in particular.
“No, alpha.” One of the guards responded as he shook his head, negatively.
"Alright, well done.” He smiled. "And yeah, did you clean the room? It's been a long time since I had a guest so precious that stayed this close to my room.”
I blushed and tried as much as possible to hide my face away from him and the others. For the record, I knew he wanted to make me feel fly, the reason why he said too much.
Again, I felt this flattery fantasy I can't shake up erode me.
"Yes, alpha Damon." A maid responded. "We do that every day.”
"Alright. Good to know. You may leave, that will be all, for now.”
"Thank you alpha.” They chorused and left in an organized fashion.
“Let's go.”
I didn't protest as he took my hand in his and headed for the guest room. In front of the door, there was an initial 'S. G.’ By the door.
Who was 'S. G.’? Was it an initial for his true mate? Or just a friend? What if he does have a mate? I felt my heart skip a beat and the muscles were as though it was turning into a hard knot.
It wasn't in my place to know, but knowing would help me right now.
He opened the door and allowed me to go in before he entered and closed the door.
"This is your room from now henceforth.”
I nodded.
"Feel free to call for my help, I'm most times in my room. So, you're in safe hands like I said.”
"Good to know." I forced a smile.
The initials still lingered at the back of my head.
“Are you okay? You seemed stressed.” He voiced his thoughts.
“That's because I'm stressed.” I managed a simple lie.
Maybe I'm indeed stressed.
“Right, pardon me. You should rest.”
I nodded.
He started for the door and I watched his tall frame walk away.
“What does 'S. G.’ means?” I hurriedly said, and it felt like the words were rushing out from me.
He stopped and turned around to face me. He arched his brows like he had no idea what I just asked.
“Could you please repeat?” He pleaded.
Too embarrassed to speak, I pointed at the door instead. And when he followed my fingers and read it, he turned to face me and smiled.
“You need not bother, there's no lady anywhere.”
What did he mean by that? My cheeks are flushed. Did I sell myself so cheaply? Or was he that freaking good, at reading minds?
“I just wanted to be sure who owns the room I'm about to stay in.” I lied. Being banished had buttered my lying skills, and it was a plus if you look at it from this angle.
"And your luck, to the no ladies.” I faked a smile. More like my luck.
“By luck, you mean?” He questioned.
“Less drama.” I continued in my silly conversation.
“Oh, yeah.” He stepped out. "It means Special Guest, satisfied now?”
He didn't wait for me to defend myself before he closed the door and walked away, his steps grew fainter with each passing minute.
