Chapter 7

Nyla woke up to a beam of soft sunlight creeping through the light shades of her bedroom window. She slightly groaned as she sat up from her soft and warm blankets.

She's not sober yet, still feeling high from yesterday night. She barely remember how she got home. Marcus must have dropped her off.

Sighing softly, she looked at the clock it was past 2 pm. Damn,  she slept long enough. She was lost in her own thoughts, when she heard the door knock.

"Come in" she said, rubbing her itchy eyes.

"Hey little one" she heard a hoarse voice.

She smiled. It was her dad.

Her dad was middle-aged. He is 45 years old now. He's has a slim body and he has average height. Beside that, his skin complexion is quote fair. He kinda have an oval face. He has short and straight hair. And his eyes colour is black like her. He is a handsome man. And last, he has a cool beard which may seems very similar to Robert Downey Jr. And he is most sooper cool dad in the whole universe.

And if you ask him about being a single father he would tell,

It’s an adventure, his story began when his wife passed away, at home he had a small princess.

As she grew, he had many challenges to overcome, everything from bad behaviour to extra cuddles because she thought he was sad, everything to bath time arguments to starting work, everything from clothes outgrown at the most inopportune moments, arguments about bedtime, arguments about food, arguments about latest technology purchase's, all in all a pretty good upbringing for his little one.

He still misses his wife like crazy, even after all these years, however, he would not ever complain about the time I was a single father, the relationship was special, he of course used to be envy of other families, Mom and Dad, who were able to split the work, but he had to do it all, alone, washing and cleaning, first aid, read their minds about perceived problems, etc.

Being a single dad is very hard though. In fact it's the hardest thing one have ever done, but definitely the most rewarding. Being a single Dad involves a great deal of sacrifice. Your time is not your own, you may have to put your own dreams aside, any potential relationship must pass the 'is she going to be good for the kids’ test, you will feel like giving up at times but that isn't an option. Is it's a  daughter you have , as he does, you will have to be ok with painting nails, plaiting hair, shopping for clothes and doing your absolute best to try and understand what life is like for a little girl. Having said all this he would never trade being a parent for anything and those times when your children look at you and say “thanks for being the best Dad in the world” make every second of it worthwhile.

And apart from all the struggles he manged to be the best dad, she could ever ask for.

He played the both roles - father and mother very beautifully.

His father never thought about marrying another lady. For him , the only lady he loves is his late wife. He can never love anyone as he loved his wife. And for his sake of his daughter, he never married any other girl nor he had time to date any girl.

"How are you feeling, cupcake?" he asked and entered her room with a tray in his hands.

"Ugh.. My headache is being a Bitch dad" she groaned.

He chuckled, "Here take these pain killer it may help you "

"Thank you dada" she smiled gratefully at him.

"So, tell me how was your birthday celebration? "

"Rocked, very single second seemed like I was in heaven" she spoke excitedly.

"Mm.. Seems like it, you were totally wasted when Marcus dropped you off  and sweets, it should be the last time it happens, I know you are an offical adult now, But that doesn't mean you can do whatever you want, yeah? " he told her softly yet sternly.

"Sorry dad, Won't happen again " she muttered hanging her head low, she felt like she dissapointed her dad.

"Hey hey, look sweets,  there is nothing wrong in having fun okay? You are supposed to have fun at this age, But there is a limit for everything and drinking and getting wasted not a day after turning 18 is not fun. I'm not trying to advise you to be an ideal girl nor I'm trying to be a strict parent. It's just that I don't want you to get in any trouble because of your recklessness , yeah? I know you are smart girl and you are more mature for your age but as a dad it's my job to advise you"

"Yep, it won't happen again, it's a one time thing and trust me I regret drinking, got you have no idea how awful I feel right now" she told.

He snickered.

"Okay time to freshen up, eat breakfast and take some medicines, yeah? and what about your university?"

She signed, " I almost applied at 19 universities, whatever comes I'm gonna take it , you know I wish to take arts "

"Do whatever you love but make sure you don't regret it in the future,  there is nothing wrong in taking enough time to decide your future "

"Got it" she grinned.

"I have some work, gotta go, meet you tonight , I'll  be reaching home late so have some takeout yeah? "

"Yes, dad. Bye love you " she said.

"Love you more sweets" he said and kissed her forehead and headed out.

She again, fell on her bed groaning. After a while her thoughts went to her late mother.

She don't really know what missing her actually is. She cannot define that feeling, but everytime she see a post of someone on social media about their mother's, smiling Mother's with their children or when she see a mother caring for her child, a sinking feeling sets in her . Because she know she won't be able to have those moments with her again, cannot see her, touch her, hug her, kiss her, tell her how much I love her. And, it is the worst feeling in the world.

Also, not being able to share any of her life's important milestones with her is terrible. Whether an achievement or a setback, a mother is someone who is the most concerned with you.

She actually got to know what missing someone actually is, after mumma's death.

It is like a void which can never be filled. You always carry that emptiness with you. It takes a backseat with day to day activities for a while but it is always there.

She lost her momma years back, but one thing is for sure that till now every memory, picture, voice of hers is fresh in my mind. All it needs is a trigger, and you are drowned in the river of beautiful moments.

No love is as pure and powerful as a mother's.

Sure, her dad is great, but she misses her.

A traitor tear reached her cheek. She immediately sat up and shaked her head and went to freshen up. After her morning rituals, she heard her phone ringing.

'MarcYuCkIe \˚ㄥ˚\ '

She smiled and swiped the green button, " Hel—"

"HEY BITCH" she heard a loud screeching voice immediately know whose this voice belongs to.

"Jeez, El !! Please don't invite my headache back!! Are we in conference call " Nyla asked rubbing her forehead.

"Yep, we are and Ella shut up for a while " Uttered Marcus.

"And why would I, Thanos ? Can you like get lost, no one wishes to talk with you and Ms. Nyla, what were doing all this time? I know you must been feeling high after last night but girl, it's like past 4 now "

"I know, I woke up at 2 and Uhmm...I was getting some advices from my old man about me getting wasted and he was asking about my university plan"

Marcus scoffed, " Be thankful, he care for you, mine could never relate "

" I agree with Thanos on this one, I mean I think my parents forgot they have a daughter " Ella said sarcastically.

Nyla laughed softly.

"Stop it guys and what are your plans for future "

"ARTS" both uttered in unison.

Nyla wasn't suprised , they'll planned to attend the same university since they were young.

"Girls, let's meet up at our place now, yeah? " asked Marcus.

"Sure " said Nyla ended up and started making her way to the 'Aesthetic cafe'.
