Chapter 84: Banquet

Chapter 85: Returning Home After Discharge

When Rosalind saw me trying to cover things up, she got even angrier.

"Henry, what exactly are you and John hiding from me!"

Henry panicked. He shot me an annoyed glance and said, "Helena is just talking nonsense. She's just a kid - why would you take her seriously?"

"Right, right, Grandma, I was really just making things up. Please don't take it seriously."

I quickly followed Henry's lead and pleaded.

Hearing this, Rosalind finally sat back down. She looked at me with displeasure and said, "So you really were just making it up?"

I nodded quickly. "Yes, I really was just talking nonsense."

Only then did Rosalind let go of her suspicions. "I want to video call Willow."

"Okay."

Henry quickly signaled John to make the video call.

John immediately took out his phone and started dialing. Soon Natasha's face appeared on the screen.

"Where's your mom? Your grandma wants to talk to her."

Natasha called toward the hospital room's inner area, "Mom, Dad's calling."

Willow appeared on the screen reluctantly. "John, what do you want?"

Hearing Willow's voice, Rosalind grabbed the phone.

She said with concern, "Willow, how are you? I only found out today that you were hurt. Are you injured anywhere?"

Seeing it was Rosalind, Willow's expression stiffened for a moment before she quickly responded, "Mom, it's nothing. I was supposed to be discharged today, but the doctor wants me to do another checkup, so I'm just staying one more day."

"You really scared me. Alright then, when you're discharged, have John come pick you up."

Hearing Rosalind's words, Willow looked uncomfortable. "That's not necessary."

"What do you mean not necessary? Are you planning to never come back to this home?"

Rosalind said with displeasure, "That's enough. Listen to me on this - when you're discharged, have John pick you up and bring you home."

"We're family. What kind of deep grudge could family have? When I tell you to come home, you come home."

Seeing Rosalind put it that way, Willow could only nod in agreement. "Mom, I understand."

After Rosalind hung up, she kept muttering, "How could she be so careless and get hit by a car? What about the driver? Did they find them?"

John quickly nodded. "They found them. They already fixed the car and said they'd pay compensation, but I didn't take it."

"Why not? That's what Willow deserves - you can't refuse it!"

Hearing this, John gave a cold laugh. "What compensation? I should be thanking them instead. If it weren't for that accident, I'd still be in the dark."

"In the dark about what?"

Seeing Rosalind's question, John quickly said, "Nothing, nothing. Mom, you heard wrong."

His obvious attempt to cover up still caught Rosalind's attention. I couldn't help but laugh coldly - John was the perfect assist.

If Rosalind hadn't paid attention to what I said earlier, she would definitely remember what John just said. Now all I had to do was go with the flow and deliver what Rosalind wanted to know right into her hands.

"Mr. Lockwood, you have a visitor."

Just then, Peter came to report. Hearing someone was at the door, Henry stood up. "You all stay here, I'll go take a look."

After Henry left, Rosalind pretended to massage her leg. "My rheumatism is acting up again. Helena, come take a look at it for me."

Seeing her put on that elder act again, I took out my phone directly. "Grandma, if you're really in pain, I should just call an ambulance and take you straight to the hospital. After all, I'm not a doctor - I can't treat your condition."

"You!"

This time, Rosalind was completely at a loss with me. She huffed angrily, "This is an old problem. Even going to the hospital won't help. Don't call."

"Really not calling?"

I held the phone and asked seriously.

"No need."

Rosalind huffed again and reached out her hand to John. "Help me to the backyard to see how the preparations are going and if anyone's slacking off. Such a big estate - it won't do without someone watching."

"Yes, yes, Mom. I'll take you to look."

John helped Rosalind walk toward the back.

Serenity looked at me with a complicated expression. "Helena, you really know how to handle Grandma."

I glanced at her. "Don't learn from me. After all, I'm not exactly a good person in Grandma's eyes."

"How could that be?"

Serenity smiled and linked her arm with mine. "Come on, this is my first time attending a party. If there's anything I don't understand later, you have to teach me."

I nodded. "I will."

In the back garden, quite a few guests had already arrived. When they saw me, some gathered around excitedly.

"Come look, everyone, our guest of honor has appeared."

"Time really flies - Helena's getting married already."

"Isn't that the truth?"

"Hello, everyone."

The speakers were some of Maria's good friends. I walked over and greeted them.

"Hello, hello."

Gemma took my hand with a smile. "Your mother and I have always been close. When you and my son were little, we even joked about having you two get married someday. Who knew fate had other plans - my son didn't have that fortune."

"Gemma, you're too kind. I'm sure someone even better will appear in your son's life."

"In my eyes, no one compares to Helena."

Gemma looked at me with increasing satisfaction, which made me quite embarrassed. Fortunately, Maria came to my rescue.

"What are you all chatting about? Come on, let's all take a photo together."

At Maria's words, Gemma finally let go of my hand and walked toward the photo area.

Quite a few of Henry's relatives came too, all gathering around Rosalind and flattering her. Rosalind didn't seem to hurt anywhere now - her face beamed with smiles.

The party lasted until late into the night. After seeing off the last batch of guests, Maria nearly collapsed on the sofa from exhaustion.

The servants helped her wash and take down her hair, and only then did she get up and look at me. "Helena, you worked hard today. Go get some sleep."

"Okay, Mom."

I had just gotten upstairs and hadn't even laid down when I received a message on my phone.

"Did you have fun tonight?"

I frowned. The message was from Atlas. How did he know what happened at my house? Was he near my home?

Thinking this, I called him back directly. "Where are you?"

"Downstairs at your place."

He really was downstairs. I quickly got up. "When did you get here?"

"Before the party started."

I looked at the time. My family's party had lasted nearly four hours, which meant Atlas had been waiting downstairs for four hours.

I suppressed the bittersweet feeling welling up inside and said, "Go home. It's too late - I won't come down."

"Okay, you get some rest too."

I gave a soft acknowledgment. Just as I was about to hang up, Atlas spoke. "Helena, remember to miss me."
