Chapter 80: Eavesdropping
I nodded, "I know."
"His family situation is more complicated than the Pemberton family's, but look at what Knox has done. He's already cheating and scheming against my family before we're even married. If we do get married, whether I can even keep my life is questionable."
Hearing my words, Quincy frowned, "You're being too dramatic. Knox may be a womanizer, but he wouldn't dare kill anyone, would he?"
"Wouldn't dare? Why wouldn't he?"
I laughed coldly, "People will do anything for money. You never know what people might do."
"Alright, alright, as long as you've thought it through. I just want you to be happy."
As Quincy spoke, she took out her phone and fiddled with it for a bit. Soon, a message appeared on the screen.
She handed it to me, "Take a look. This is all I can help you with."
I opened it and saw it was Nancy's information.
It detailed Nancy's family background, education, social experiences - everything was crystal clear, even her dating history after entering society.
I laughed after reading it, "Wow, where did you get this from?"
Quincy said proudly, "Don't worry about that. Just see if it's useful to you."
After looking carefully, I said directly, "It is useful, but only to a limited extent."
"I know you want to know about Nancy and Atlas's relationship. Don't worry, I've investigated it all for you."
Following her words, I continued reading and indeed found something.
It detailed how she and Atlas met, along with some overlapping timelines.
Just as Atlas had said, Nancy met him when he was staying with the Armstrong family. Even after Atlas returned to The Lancaster Manor, Nancy would still often visit him.
I clicked my tongue, "So they really are childhood sweethearts."
"Yes, but don't worry, Nancy is definitely not as good as you."
Quincy said.
Hearing her words, I smiled and handed the phone back.
"How about it? Do you need me to investigate Atlas, too?"
"Don't worry, if you let me investigate, I can dig up everything, even about him wetting the bed as a child!"
I laughed and playfully hit Quincy, "No need."
"Really don't need it? I heard Atlas had a pretty messy private life before. You're really that confident?"
I shook my head, "You said that was before. I never dwell on the past. People just need to look forward. I trust Atlas."
Hearing my words, Quincy shook her head directly, "I didn't expect you to be in this deep already."
"Alright, I won't say anything more. I can only wish you well."
I didn't argue with her words. I was just finding myself a way out.
And Atlas happened to be the most suitable choice at the moment.
Thinking of this, I smiled, "Let's go, I'll take you out."
"Great!"
Quincy stood up and stretched, "We should go out while we can, before it gets hard to meet up after you're married."
"How is that possible? I'm just getting married, not moving abroad."
I laughed and patted her.
Quincy pouted, "Who knows? If Atlas keeps you on a tight leash, won't it be hard for you to come out?"
"Keep your voice down, don't talk nonsense."
After saying this, I opened the room door, and the smile on my face instantly turned cold.
I saw Serenity standing right outside the door. The moment she saw me open it, her face showed some panic.
I said with a cold expression, "When did you get here?"
Serenity quickly explained, "I just arrived not long ago. Uncle Henry said you were upstairs, so I came up. I was just about to knock when you came out."
Seeing my serious expression, Serenity seemed at a loss.
I didn't know how much of my conversation with Quincy Serenity had heard, but I knew that even if I kept questioning her, I wouldn't get anything out of her.
Quincy walked out and leaned against the wall, looking Serenity up and down.
Suddenly she laughed, "So this is your new cousin? She looks pretty good, seems very innocent."
As expected of my good friend, Quincy could see at a glance what was off about Serenity.
Hearing Quincy evaluate her this way, Serenity seemed flustered.
She said uneasily, "Helena, you have a guest, so I'll go downstairs first."
"No need, let's go together."
With that, I headed downstairs first. Quincy followed and whispered, "Damn, she didn't hear what I said, did she?"
I shook my head and whispered back, "Not sure."
"What kind of person is Serenity?"
Seeing me shake my head again, Quincy said anxiously, "Will this mess up your plans?"
"No."
With that, I made a shushing gesture, "Alright, let's not talk about it anymore."
Arriving at the first-floor living room, Henry was talking with John.
Seeing me come down, John looked at me with a smile, "Helena, Serenity heard about your wedding date and came specially to bring you gifts. Do you like these things?"
Then he looked around, "Where's Serenity?"
"Dad, I'm here."
Serenity spoke up, quickly walking down the stairs and looking at me timidly, "Helena, I didn't know what you liked. Do you like these gifts?"
I glanced over - it was cosmetics and a handbag from a recently popular brand.
Serenity had really spent a lot of money. I knew this brand's handbags weren't cheap - even the regular ones cost over five hundred thousand dollars.
She had already gotten used to the luxurious lifestyle so quickly. I suppressed the chill in my heart and said, "Thank you, Serenity, thank you, Uncle John. I really like them."
"Good that you like them."
John said, glancing at Quincy behind me, "You're going out? Perfect, take Serenity with you, she can keep you company."
Hearing this, I had to say, "Alright, Quincy is going with me to get our nails done. We can take Serenity along."
"Great, great, you all go have fun together."
John smiled at Serenity, "Serenity, have fun with Helena when you go out. Buy whatever you want, don't be shy about spending money."
Serenity nodded obediently, "Okay."
Quincy, beside me, nudged my arm and made a face, "Serenity seems to be even better at acting than Natasha."
Hearing her words, I smiled and walked toward the door.
"You all come back early."
I responded and walked out. The butler, Peter, had already prepared the car. After getting in, Serenity carefully asked, "Helena, where are we going?"
"Didn't I just say? We're getting our nails done. Just follow along. If you like it, you can get yours done too."
"Okay."
Hearing her obedient response, Quincy beside me couldn't help but roll her eyes.
We soon arrived at the nail salon. We had already booked our nail technicians. After going in and sitting down, I noticed there was a male nail technician in the shop.
Seeing this, Quincy immediately sat down in front of the male nail technician and said with a smile, "This shop really understands my preferences. I love male nail technicians the most."
