Chapter 245 Ivan Escaped
Chapter 245 Ivan Escaped
When I got home, sure enough, all the lights were on. Henry and Maria were both still awake, clearly waiting for me.
The moment he saw me, Henry patted the sofa beside him, signaling me to come over.
After I sat down, he said flatly, "Was Ivan really sent to the police station?"
I nodded, "Yes, he tried to hurt a colleague. Things got a bit out of control, so I had people take him away."
"Why would he do these illegal things when he was doing just fine!"
Maria sighed beside us, "Helena, are you okay?"
I shook my head, "I'm fine, Mom. But this time Ivan was sent in, the contract fraud charge might keep him in jail for a while."
"Serves him right. He could've scammed anyone, but he had to try it on us!"
Maria said angrily, "John's family refuses to walk the straight path and insists on taking shortcuts. He brought this on himself, and no one can save him!"
"Let him reflect on his actions in jail this time, so he won't come out and hurt people again."
Henry also sighed. He was more disappointed than angry, after all, he had already laid out a clear path for Ivan, but now it had been completely ruined.
Worried that Henry might be too distressed, I quickly tried to comfort him, "Dad, don't be upset. Ivan isn't a child anymore. He knows very well what he should and shouldn't do. He chose this path himself, and no one can make that choice for him. Since he made a mistake, he has to pay the price."
Henry nodded, "Don't worry, I'm fine."
How could he be fine? I could see Henry had a lot more white hair, definitely from not sleeping well these past few days.
Thinking of this, I urged, "It's getting late. Dad, Mom, you should get some rest."
"Okay."
Henry had just responded when my phone suddenly rang. I saw it was an unknown number. When I answered, a panicked voice came from the other end, "Ms. Lockwood, Ivan escaped!"
"What!"
The sudden news shocked me so much that I stood up immediately, "What happened?"
The person on the phone said, "We were driving him and almost at the police station when he suddenly went crazy, broke free from the people watching him, and desperately tried to grab the steering wheel. The car ended up crashing into a tree, and we all passed out. When we woke up, Ivan was gone."
Hearing this, I slowly sat back down and said, "Okay, I understand."
After I hung up, Henry couldn't wait to ask, "What happened? Did something happen to Ivan?"
I nodded, "He escaped."
As soon as I finished speaking, Maria cried out in alarm, "How could he escape? Oh no, will he come after Helena?"
Seeing Maria getting panicked, I quickly went over to comfort her, "He won't, Mom. Don't scare yourself."
"That's right, there are so many people in the house. If he shows up here, wouldn't he be walking into a trap?"
Henry also comforted her, "You always overthink things."
"How is it overthinking?"
Maria retorted unhappily, "Sure, there are people at home, but Helena can't stay home forever, can she? She has to go to the office, meet with Atlas, she has to go out. What happens when she goes out?"
With Maria's words, Henry also became more concerned.
"You're right. Who knows if he'll be crazy enough to go after Helena."
"Exactly! What should we do? You need to get more bodyguards for Helena right away."
"Mom, don't worry."
Seeing Maria getting anxious, I quickly comforted her, "It's okay. At least we're safe tonight. The company has already called the police. Maybe Ivan will be found by tomorrow."
Hearing my words, Maria's emotions gradually stabilized.
She gripped my hand tightly and said, "Until Ivan is caught, you must be very careful."
I nodded, "Don't worry, Mom. I will."
Just as I finished speaking, footsteps came from outside the courtyard. The butler hurried over and said, "John and Rosalind are here. They're at the gate now, shouting for us to open it."
"Mom's here too?"
Hearing the butler's words, Henry stood up with a furrowed brow, "They must have heard about Ivan and came to blame us."
I stood up behind Henry and said, "Since they're here, let them in."
"Yes, Ms. Lockwood."
After the butler left, Maria looked at me worriedly and said, "Helena, your grandmother will definitely put all the blame on you. Don't be afraid. Your father and I will protect you."
Maria's words flowed through me like a warm current. I held her hand tightly and said, "Mom, it's okay. I've grown up now and can protect myself. Even if all these people come at me, I'm not afraid."
Just as I finished speaking, shouting came from the courtyard, "Where's Helena? Helena, get out here!"
Without going out to look, I could tell from the voice alone that it was John.
Seeing him cursing, Henry couldn't hold back anymore. He stood up and walked out of the living room, looking at the people in the courtyard, "John, what do you want with Helena this late at night?"
"Don't play dumb with me. Tell Helena to get out here!"
When John saw Henry, he let go of Rosalind's arm and charged toward Henry.
"Stop him!"
At my command, several bodyguards rushed over and blocked John in the courtyard. The moment he saw me, John went crazy, pointing at me and saying, "Helena, you evil woman! What did you do with Ivan?"
"Ivan forged contracts and tried to defraud company assets. I've already reported it to the police. Unfortunately, he escaped, but don't worry, he can't get away. Sooner or later, he'll be caught and brought back."
"You bitch! How dare you harm my grandson!"
Rosalind cried out and tried to rush at me, but was also blocked by the bodyguards.
Looking at Rosalind, who kept cursing, I felt a wave of disgust rise in my heart.
"Shut up!"
Rosalind was startled by my shout. After closing her mouth, she glared at me unwillingly and said, "You bitch, how dare you yell at me! Do you even respect me as your grandmother?"
"Sorry, I really don't."
I looked at her coldly, not hiding the disgust in my heart at all, my tone completely devoid of emotion, "If you hadn't been so biased, how would John's family have repeatedly coveted my company? If you hadn't encouraged them behind the scenes, how would Ivan have dared to have such delusions? This is all your fault. And what are you doing? Just shouting here. What else can you do?"
After speaking, I swept my cold gaze over everyone present and said, "Ivan escaped today, but he won't get far. I will definitely catch him and bring him back!"
