Chapter 244: The Matter Is Exposed
Chapter 244: The Matter Is Exposed
Just as expected, right before the end of the workday, Ivan stormed in furiously.
"Helena, what's going on? Why hasn't the client received any news about the shipment arriving?"
York followed closely behind Ivan.
Worried that Ivan might hurt me in his anger, York quickly stepped in front of me and carefully tried to calm him down. "Ivan, don't get worked up. Let's hear what Ms. Lockwood has to say."
"Say what? I'm asking you where the goods are! Where did they go?"
I looked at him, sweating and furious, and smiled slightly. "Ivan, you've invested quite a bit to get your hands on the Lockwood Group, haven't you?"
Hearing this, Ivan froze for a moment, then frowned. "What are you talking about? I have no idea what you mean!"
"It's okay if you don't understand. I'll explain it to you slowly."
I glanced at him and said kindly, "That shipment will never leave port, because the contract is fake. How could it possibly ship out?"
"What did you say?"
He seemed unable to believe my words. His eyes filled with disbelief, and he stumbled backward, collapsing into the sofa.
"What do you mean by that?"
As soon as he finished speaking, Ivan looked up in shock. "Don't tell me you knew everything all along?"
I nodded. "Yes, I knew everything. The fake contract, the fake overseas orders—everything you did was fake."
After hearing my words, Ivan roared, "No, that's not right! If you knew it was all fake, why did you go along with production and shipping? Are you treating the company like a toy?"
"What are you going crazy about!"
York shook his arm hard. "Of course we're going to produce when someone places an order. You think everyone's as stupid as you?"
Ivan looked up at York in disbelief. "What are you saying? You mean the stuff the workshop has been producing these past few days wasn't for me?"
"How could we prepare anything for you with a fake contract?"
York said disappointedly, "Ms. Lockwood investigated all your little tricks thoroughly. We only produced to go along with the situation. The goods did ship out, but after loading onto the ship, they just circled around at sea and then went where they were supposed to go."
"You!"
Ivan stood up in shock, pointing at York and roaring, "You knew all of this clearly, didn't you?"
York had been squatting in front of the sofa, but Ivan's movement scared him and he fell backward onto the floor. He looked up at Ivan and nodded instinctively. "Yes, we all knew."
This statement completely enraged Ivan. A low growl like a wild animal came from his throat, then he threw his head back and laughed. "Great! So you all knew! You all knew!"
He reached out and grabbed York's neck tightly. "Since you knew too, why didn't you tell me? Why!"
York was being choked so hard he could barely breathe. He grabbed Ivan's hands and managed to squeeze out some words. "Let's talk this through calmly."
Seeing York's face turning red from being choked, I yelled at Ivan, "Ivan, what are you doing? Let him go!"
Unfortunately, Ivan was so furious at this point that he didn't seem to hear me at all. Seeing him unmoved, I quickly grabbed my phone and called security to come up.
Shortly after I hung up, four or five security guards rushed in. Seeing the scene before them, they rushed forward to rescue York.
"Let go! Let go now!"
Someone tried to pry Ivan's hands off, but in his rage, he wouldn't budge at all—they couldn't get his hands loose!
Seeing this, someone had no choice but to grab Ivan's injured arm. He let out a scream, and with his injured arm forcibly held behind his back, he finally released his other hand.
"York, are you okay?"
Seeing York freed, I rushed over to check on him.
York clutched his neck, coughing violently, while waving at me. "Ms. Lockwood, I'm fine."
After confirming he was okay, I turned my gaze to Ivan. Seeing him still screaming, I rushed over without thinking and slapped him hard across the face.
"Ivan, what's gotten into you? Didn't all of this start because of your greed? I was going to let you off, but since you show no remorse, you can go explain everything to the police."
After I finished speaking, I said to the security guards, "Take him to the police station."
"No, I won't go!"
Ivan roared, struggling desperately, but in the process, he hit his injured arm again and let out another scream.
"Helena, you can't do this to me. I'm your family! If you treat me like this, Grandma and my dad won't let you get away with it!"
I laughed coldly. "They've wanted to come after me for a long time, but so what? Ivan, your whole family has schemed so carefully, but unfortunately, your luck is always just a bit off. Fate won't favor you. You should give up on your plans to harm people for money."
"Don't get cocky. I was careless this time, but I won't give up. I'll take back everything that belongs to me. Helena, just you wait—I won't let you off!"
Ivan's roar echoed through the small office. I frowned, looking at Ivan, who seemed like a madman. He had become a complete stranger to me.
I never knew a person could turn into a lunatic because of greed, but all of this started with him—he had no one else to blame.
With this thought, I said to the security guards, "Take him away."
This time, they didn't give Ivan a chance to struggle. They grabbed his arms and forcibly escorted him out of the office.
Once the office was quiet again, York came forward carefully, still holding his neck. "Ms. Lockwood, let me drive you home."
Only then did I realize it had gotten dark, and there was no one left outside the office.
I shook my head. "No need. You've had a hard day too. You should go home and rest. As for your injury..."
I looked up and saw a deep red handprint on his neck. You could tell how hard Ivan had grabbed him.
I shook my head. "Finance will give you workers' compensation tomorrow."
"That's not necessary. I'm not seriously hurt, and you already give me plenty of extra bonuses. Let's skip it this time. Besides, given the situation, I had to step in."
Seeing him decline, I interrupted. "Alright, I understand. You should head home now."
"Okay then, Ms. Lockwood, be careful on your way home."
Before leaving, York gave me one last concerned reminder, then stepped into the elevator.
Looking at the thick darkness outside the window, I sighed. Everyone at home must have heard the news by now. Rosalind and John's family definitely wouldn't let this go.
But I knew that avoiding the problem wasn't the solution. The cancer had to be removed, or else it would harm others.
