Chapter 31 Successfully Escaped

Chapter 31 Successfully Escaped

The commotion was loud enough to jolt Daisy from her foggy state of consciousness. James's hypnosis stopped abruptly. Everything they'd worked for came crashing down.

Seeing us, Daisy immediately scrambled to her feet and away from the Rosewood family. "Help me!"

Her words made all four of my brothers' faces darken. Catherine really had been sabotaging them behind the scenes!

Andrew's expression turned stone-cold as he scanned everyone present. His gaze finally landed on me. Through gritted teeth, he said, "Catherine, well done."

"Don't need you to tell her that. She's always been great." Nicholas stood protectively in front of me, firing back.

Andrew forced a smile. "Mr. Harrington, does your family know you love meddling in other people's business this much?"

"None of your concern."

When Andrew couldn't get anywhere with Nicholas, he turned his attack on me. "Catherine, how exactly have we wronged you? You hate us so much you won't be satisfied until Sabby's dead?"

Hearing his accusation, my other brothers caught on too. I'd contacted the test subject Daisy beforehand and coordinated with her from the inside. All to sabotage Sabrina's continued treatment.

James's already cold features turned even icier. "Catherine, I am so disappointed in you. You don't deserve to be our sister."

Michael's face burned with rage. "Catherine, you psycho! Do you realize you're going to kill Sabby? Uncle Herman should never have saved you!"

Jason just stared at me without saying a word. He probably agreed with the other three, right?

I simply looked back at the Rosewood family coldly, saying nothing. Since I'd thrown away that pendant last time, I hadn't been back here in ages. Even when I did return, they'd just taken me to the hospital. How long could I have stayed anyway?

This had once been my home too, but standing here now, I felt nothing but bone-deep cold. The memories of my tragic death in my past life coiled around me like venomous snakes.

Nicholas carefully shielded me, gently patting my back for comfort. The police had everyone in the room under control.

Before leaving, I deliberately glanced at Sabrina's room. Empty. Had she escaped? Or was she at the hospital? I didn't dwell on it. As long as the Rosewood family stood, Sabrina would come back.

Andrew and James were both successful businessmen. Even with volcanic rage burning inside them, they maintained composure. Michael, on the other hand, had zero control over his emotions. He'd been a prodigy since childhood, always the center of attention, always adored. How could he end up at a police station?

And the person responsible for this humiliation? Me. He hated me with every fiber of his being.

"Catherine, why aren't you the one who's sick? If you needed Sabby, I'd make sure you died first! Andrew, you actually thought Catherine might turn over a new leaf? I told you we should've removed her from the family registry ages ago! Catherine, you brought outsiders to destroy us—you won't get away with this either!"

During the short walk from the Rosewood house to the police car, Michael hurled every vicious word from his vocabulary at me.

Nicholas, worried I'd be hurt by the abuse, deliberately walked slowly. But the cold night wind still carried those words into my ears.

Melissa didn't dare show herself. I spotted her hiding in the shadows, watching me. When no one was looking, I gave her a strained smile. It's okay. I'd achieved my goal.

Michael's tirade was forcibly ended when he was shoved into the police car. Besides the Rosewood family, everyone else had to go to the station to give statements.

Nicholas and I were just concerned citizens upholding justice. We were released pretty quickly. The victim, Daisy, was questioned extensively about every detail.

When Daisy emerged from the police station, dawn was breaking. I waved her over.

"Where do you live? We'll take you home."

Daisy nodded numbly. "Miss, do you... know those people?"

I smiled openly. "I do. They're my biological brothers. But I was also a test subject once."

Daisy's eyes widened in shock, like she couldn't process what I'd just said.

I didn't elaborate. "What about you? Why do you need so much money?"

Nicholas glanced at me, not understanding why I was asking a question I already knew the answer to.

Daisy's expression grew complicated. When she looked at me, there was guilt, fear, and buried deepest of all—hope.

I waited quietly for her to speak. So far, Nicholas and I hadn't helped her enough to attract that boss's attention. If she wasn't willing to be honest with us, this was as far as I could go.

Daisy stayed silent for a long time. The car passed another intersection before she finally made up her mind.

"Miss, I have a secret."

Daisy began telling me about her past in earnest. From her account, I learned details that hadn't been in the background check—including evidence of that mountain village's crimes.

"I want to survive. Before Mom died, her last wish was for those monsters to face justice. But I can't do it... I really can't." Daisy covered her face and broke down crying.

Turns out her mother had been undercover from the start. She'd endured years of humiliation to finally collect evidence. The village was destroyed—justice seemed served. But both mother and daughter knew countless monsters remained hidden in the shadows.

I pieced together all the information again. "So that boss is after you because he wants the evidence you have?"

Daisy nodded emphatically. Of course. The debt story was just a cover.

"Then why doesn't he just kidnap you?" Nicholas, still driving, asked a crucial question.

Daisy showed a hint of relief. "I have a huge following online. During my livestreams, I often hint that if I don't stream for three consecutive days in a week, they should call the police."

"So he's already kidnapped you before, hasn't he?" I looked at Daisy with sympathy.

Tears shimmered in her eyes as she nodded slightly. The atmosphere in the car grew heavy.

Daisy tried to comfort me instead. "Thank you for helping me. I've already gotten an offer from a school abroad. I'll escape and come back when I'm strong enough."

Her eyes shone with determination. Her tenacious, vibrant life force deeply affected me.

"But if they've been watching you this whole time, how can you..." Escape safely?

I thought of Nicholas but didn't know how to ask him. After careful consideration, I decided to help Daisy anyway.

"Nicholas, could you sponsor Daisy's study abroad in my name? I promise I'll pay you back."

The moment the words left my mouth, Daisy's tears fell. "Miss, you don't have to do this."

Nicholas's expression darkened too. "Catherine, do you really trust me that little?"

Sponsoring her in my name meant drawing all the fire onto myself. I might not even make it to being killed by the Rosewood family—these people could eliminate me first.

But I didn't want to drag Nicholas down with me. He had a bright future ahead. And me? I'd already lived two lifetimes.

When I didn't respond, Nicholas glanced back at us. "Daisy, I can help you."
