Chapter 266: Coming to the Door, Fooling
"Emily's not here. I'm her friend, staying at her place for now. Whatever you need, wait till she gets back!"
Bird replied coldly.
Chase felt a bit disappointed hearing she wasn't there. After thinking for a moment, he couldn't help asking a couple more questions, "Do you know where she went? When will she be back?"
If she could come back today, he could actually wait inside for her.
Bird smiled sarcastically, "Aren't you her brother? If you don't know, how would I know? If you really want to find out, just call or text her."
Chase was completely speechless.
Embarrassment flashed across his face.
He couldn't very well say that Emily had blocked him on all contact methods long ago.
Bird was sharp enough to catch on immediately. This time she didn't hide her mockery at all, "Just go. Who knows when she'll be back. But I'm guessing even if she does come back, she probably won't want to see you anyway!"
Chase had no response to that.
But asking him to just leave like this, he felt somewhat unwilling.
Finally, he said to Bird: "I'll leave then. As for whether Emily is willing to see me, that's her decision to make. So, could you please pass along a message for me? To show our sincerity, we've sent Bianca abroad. We hope she can give us a chance to make amends, at least to meet face to face!"
Hearing this, Bird knew her earlier guess was completely right.
She neither agreed nor refused to pass on the message, just waved her hand, urging Chase to leave quickly.
In the end, Chase left looking dejected.
Bird hesitated for a moment, but still sent Emily a message.
Bird: [SQ, Chase came looking for you. Said something about how they sent Bianca abroad to show their sincerity, hoping you'd give them a chance to meet.]
Emily was on a plane at the moment and didn't check her phone.
After getting off the plane, Daniel was worried about Emily's health. He first arranged for her to rest, then called in the best doctor in Emerald City to examine her.
Only after confirming Emily was okay did he let the doctor leave.
"Rest up first, then we'll go to the auction. There's still time - it's at 3 PM, still two hours away. Plus the medicinal herbs are near the end of the auction."
Daniel said in a low voice.
Although Emily had written a prescription and had someone prepare medicine that could help her body recover faster, she had been injured and her body was depleted after all. She was indeed feeling a bit tired now.
She yawned, "Okay, I'll sleep a bit more. Now that we're here, you wouldn't ditch me and go to the auction by yourself."
Just to be safe, Emily said this on purpose.
Daniel laughed at her words, looking at her fondly as he replied, "Okay, I won't leave you behind."
His magnetic, clear laughter was so pleasant it could make anyone's ears pregnant.
Emily's ears unconsciously turned slightly red. She closed her eyes to avoid looking at him.
Sleepiness quickly came over her as she closed her eyes. Before long, she had fallen asleep, her light breathing reaching Daniel's ears.
Daniel tenderly tucked in her blanket before leaving the room.
He opened his phone and only then noticed a call from Mason.
Daniel thought for a moment, then called back.
"What is it?"
"Zoey came by. She said the three-day deadline is almost up. Should I just agree to the engagement?"
Mason confirmed one last time.
Daniel's tone changed from the gentleness he showed Emily to cold and detached, "You can agree to it."
Mason instantly understood what Daniel meant. He himself was avoiding Zoey like the plague now - how could he possibly want such a person to marry Daniel?
"Don't worry, I'm not senile yet. Though I didn't expect this was your plan!"
Mason's tone suggested he had seen through their scheme.
Daniel didn't care about Mason's tone, "If there's nothing else, I'm hanging up."
"Wait, where are you now? Your health..."
Mason cared about Daniel. Hearing he was poisoned and still hadn't found a cure, Mason couldn't help but worry.
Daniel's words were half true, half false, "Emerald City, getting the medicinal ingredients for my antidote. I'll be cured soon."
"Good, good!"
Only then did Mason smile with relief.
"Mr. Smith, you haven't made up your mind yet and are deliberately avoiding me, have you?"
At the door, Zoey's knocking could be heard.
Mason hung up the phone and calmly called toward the door, "Come in!"
Only then did Zoey's face bloom with what she considered an appropriate smile as she pushed the door open.
"Mr. Smith, I thought you were deliberately avoiding me? So, have you made your decision?"
Mason didn't want to look at that fake face at all now. He looked away, not bothering to watch.
He just said coldly, "You didn't give me a choice, did you? What else can I do but agree?"
"Really, you agreed?! Thank you for making this happen, Mr. Smith. Don't worry, after I marry Daniel, I'll be good to you."
"Then give me the antidote. As long as you stop drugging me all the time, I'll be grateful." Mason said sarcastically.
Zoey didn't feel embarrassed at all, "It was difficult! I'm very sorry about this whole thing, but I had no choice. You know, I've been set on marrying Daniel since I was young. With Emily suddenly appearing, if I didn't use some extreme measures, Daniel really wouldn't be mine.
But you've watched me grow up, Mr. Smith. You should know what I'm really like, right? We're going to be family from now on - how could I possibly harm you! By the way, when should we hold the engagement ceremony?"
Zoey's face couldn't hide her excitement and joy.
She didn't really understand Daniel.
If Daniel was really this easy to control, he probably would have been with her long ago. How could he possibly have gotten together with Emily?
Mason kept a straight face and snorted coldly, "What's the rush? A marriage between two families isn't a small matter. The ceremony naturally needs to be grand, don't you think?"
Zoey was already immersed in her excitement and didn't notice anything wrong.
Whatever Mason said, she just nodded, "Yes, you're right!"
This was her engagement to Daniel - how could it be done hastily? She needed to prepare the wedding dress and everything, the rings - she had to design them all herself.
Thinking this way, she felt there were many things to prepare.
However...
To avoid complications, Zoey still said, "The engagement ceremony can be later. I'll discuss the details with Daniel then. But the two families should sit down together to discuss the engagement, right?"
Mason had wanted to skip all of this.
But to avoid Zoey's suspicion, he answered vaguely, "Naturally. But we'll have to wait for Daniel to come back. Since the engagement between our families is decided, you should give me the antidote!"
This was the second time Mason had mentioned the antidote, clearly showing some impatience.
