Chapter 84

Chapter 84

"My girlfriend was bullied. Is there something wrong with me standing up for her?"

Benjamin's brow furrowed slightly, as if he couldn't understand why Violet would ask such a stupid question.

Violet stared blankly at him, then at Evelyn.

It took Violet a while to find her voice.

"How do you know she really didn't do anything with Mr. Martinez..."

Feeling Benjamin's icy stare, she flinched but still gathered the courage to continue.

"You were so aggressive and threatening just now. Who would dare tell the truth?"

"Are you trying to show how brave and unyielding you are?"

Evelyn spoke up.

She made no effort to hide her dislike for Violet.

Now, Violet was pestering her boyfriend for justice right in front of her. Was Violet acting like she didn't exist?

"I just don't want Mr. White to be deceived!"

Evelyn yawned, her eyes cold: "He's an adult, and both his methods and abilities far exceed yours. Why do you think you can see through things he can't?"

"He... loves you too much, so he can't see the truth clearly."

"So you think you're the one who can help him see the truth?"

Meeting Evelyn's displeased gaze, Violet's lips moved, but no words came out.

Violet knew Benjamin didn't like her, yet she had to find every possible way to be around him.

Now...

"At least, ruining my dress is your fault!"

This wasn't about a dress at all—it was Violet trying her hardest to prove Evelyn's flaws.

But anyone with eyes could see that even if Evelyn really did it, Benjamin would protect her.

The one who truly couldn't see the truth was Violet.

Evelyn turned to look at Benjamin: "If I ruin her dress now, what would you do?"

"How do you want to ruin it? I'll have someone prepare the materials."

Benjamin's extremely casual attitude showed no intention of making things difficult for Evelyn, let alone standing up for Violet.

Violet looked at Benjamin in disbelief: "Mr. White... how... how can you do this?"

"My girlfriend, of course, I'm going to spoil her."

"See?" Evelyn was very satisfied with his answer. She said to Violet, "Stay away from him from now on."

Then she looked up at him: "Let's go home."

So much had happened today, she felt exhausted.

Her confrontation with Violet earlier had already been a struggle, and now she just wanted to leave.

Benjamin agreed and carried her away.

Violet tried to follow, but Chase stopped her: "Ms. Bailey, I've already pulled up the hallway surveillance footage. Your dress was..."

He pointed at the girl who had been following Violet: "She ruined it; it has nothing to do with Ms. Thomas."

As he spoke, the video on Chase's phone was already playing before Violet's eyes.

It was clear as day who had ruined her dress. Everything she had just done now made her look like a complete fool.

She was the one who spread the rumors and falsely accused Evelyn.

Evelyn and Benjamin walked toward the parking area.

She leaned tiredly against Benjamin, her head aching.

"Not feeling well?"

"Benjamin."

"What is it?"

"Can you tell me the truth about something?"

"I never lie to you."

True.

Benjamin wouldn't lie to her. He had always held her dear to his heart.

Only she had been foolish, pushing him away again and again. She would never do that again.

She hugged his waist and said softly.

"Today, it was my mom who insisted I come."

"Do you think your mom..."

"No!"

Worried he might misunderstand, Evelyn immediately shook her head: "My parents would never do this kind of thing to me. It must be Matthew scheming behind the scenes!"

Her voice carried anger, not hiding her displeasure at all.

Noticing Benjamin's scrutinizing gaze, she lowered her eyes slightly, her voice soft and low.

"I know you suspect I still have feelings for him, but he's been calculating against me at every turn. I'd have to be an idiot not to know I shouldn't have anything to do with him."

"It's just that he has such influence over my parents, I'm worried he might do something to them."

"Can you help me, please?"

Evelyn's soft voice, combined with that wronged expression, made him feel that even if she wanted the stars from the sky, he should give them to her.

"I'll arrange for someone to keep an eye on Matthew."

Evelyn breathed a sigh of relief and looked up at him: "Thank you for today..."

"Do we really need to say thank you to each other?" He reached out and pinched her cheek, "How about you give me a more sincere thank you gift?"

Sincere?

Thank you gift?

Though he said it normally, Evelyn couldn't help but think he meant something more, and her face turned red.

"Well..."

"Benjamin!"

A sudden female voice interrupted their conversation.

Benjamin's brow furrowed slightly, clearly displeased at being interrupted.

Evelyn thought the voice sounded familiar. Looking over, she saw it was Mabel following them.

Did Mabel have designs on Benjamin, too?

Just as Evelyn's brow furrowed, Benjamin said to Chase: "Deal with it."

Deal with it?

Evelyn looked confused. That didn't sound good, no matter how you heard it.

The key thing was that Chase didn't hesitate at all. He pulled out a baton from somewhere and swung it at Mabel.

The sudden turn of events scared Evelyn so much that her eyes went wide and she couldn't make a sound.

But the baton didn't hit Mabel.

Just as she was about to be struck, another baton slammed hard into the one in Chase's hand, knocking it off course.

The baton hit the ground with a violent crash.

One could imagine that if it had actually hit Mabel, it wouldn't have been a minor injury.

"Benjamin, what are you doing!"

When Samuel's voice rang out, Evelyn's brain felt like it couldn't keep up. What was going on?

Samuel's usually playful eyes were now filled with dark fury, his voice carrying a chill.

"Want to fight? Come on!" As he spoke, he threw his suit jacket on the ground, his anger nearly overflowing.

The next second, Mabel threw herself into Samuel's arms.

"I knew you were still alive!"

Evelyn: "..."

Old acquaintances?

Before Evelyn could react, Samuel pulled Mabel out of his arms like picking up a chicken: "With the Simpson family's pathetic skills, they think they can take my life?"

"That's not what I meant. Why can't you understand what I'm saying?" Mabel complained unhappily, but her voice sounded more like she was being coy.

Mabel's eyes were bright as she looked at Samuel, and she reached out to hug him.

"I said stay away from me, do you understand?" Samuel's brows were tightly furrowed, and the grip he had on Mabel's arm was clearly strong.

"They..."

Evelyn had just started to speak when Benjamin said coolly, "If you ever dare have such thoughts again, sooner or later she'll be the one to suffer for it."

Samuel, already angry, grew even colder.

"You really think I'm a kindergarten teacher who has to watch over your girlfriend the whole time?"

Benjamin walked toward the parking lot with Evelyn in his arms: "Next time you stand by and watch Evelyn get bullied, you'll see how I make Mabel pay it back."

Evelyn thought for a few seconds: "Samuel heard them spreading rumors about me and deliberately stayed away? Just to embarrass me?"
