Chapter 65

Chapter 65

"Of course I trust my woman."

Benjamin said it like it was the most natural thing in the world, lowering his head to plant a kiss on Evelyn's cheek.

"Besides, she's not my lifesaver—she's my lifesaver's sister."

"Is there a difference?"

Her voice was dejected, and her arms tightened around his neck.

Her meaning was obvious.

With Freya having that identity, he would give Freya all kinds of special treatment.

If it had been someone else who hurt Evelyn, how could they be lying safely and soundly in a hospital?

It wasn't that Evelyn didn't understand this difference, but just thinking about it made her feel a bit upset.

There was a woman who held a different place in his heart.

"Evelyn, have you been reading too many novels?"

"What?" Her response was somewhat listless, even with a hint of not wanting to bother.

"Those brainless online novels where someone likes a person or treats them well because they saved their life—you should stop reading those."

Novel ads were everywhere these days, and she'd really seen quite a few with similar plots.

But was now really the time to talk about this?

She looked at him with a strange expression, only to meet his clear, bright eyes.

"Because Soren saved me, I'm grateful to him, so I'll help his living blood relative."

"But I won't mindlessly hurt the people around me because of that debt."

"The one who owes the favor is me, the one who should be responsible is me, and only me."

Evelyn had been stabbed, and not seeing Benjamin avenge her had left her feeling down, her mind working a bit slowly.

After she slowly processed what he'd said, her eyes widened.

"You mean I can go after her?"

"Of course. She hurt you, so it's only right that you want revenge."

"But won't you help her?"

"Helping her doesn't mean protecting her under my wing when she does something wrong."

So this matter...

Evelyn's eyes rolled slightly, and a smile appeared on her face.

"Don't worry, I won't put you in a difficult position." She lifted her head and planted a kiss on his face.

Both their faces showed obvious smiles.

In the hospital room.

After Freya had screamed herself hoarse, she finally realized that Benjamin really wasn't going to stop for her.

How could this be?

He just left like that?

"Benjamin, how can you treat me like this? You promised my brother..."

Tears streamed down her entire face, and her grief finally gained some genuine emotion.

Suddenly hearing footsteps, her eyes lit up again with hope: "I knew you wouldn't abandon me, Benjamin..."

The rest of her words stuck in her throat, unspoken.

The person before her wasn't Benjamin at all—it was his secretary.

Chase had been by Benjamin's side for years and had naturally seen countless women.

His face showed no expression, not even any emotional fluctuation in his eyes. He just spoke very calmly.

"Ms. Stewart, your body will be fine with proper rest."

"Mr. White is worried that staying in Emerald City won't allow you to recover peacefully, so he's arranged for you to go abroad and has processed your transfer."

Freya's eyes filled with complete disbelief.

"How is that possible?"

She sat bolt upright: "Impossible, Benjamin wouldn't abandon me!"

Then she started crying again: "Sending me abroad—is he afraid I'll hurt Evelyn? She's the one who set me up. Why won't Benjamin believe me?"

"Chase, you know me. How could I possibly do something like that?"

"Help me explain to Benjamin, I was really set up by Evelyn."

No matter how much she cried, she didn't receive any comfort, not even a tissue.

Even with her slow mind, she sensed something was wrong.

Lifting her head slightly, she saw Chase still standing in the same spot, his expression unchanged.

His eyes remained calm and unruffled, neither mocking nor pitying her, as if he were looking at someone completely irrelevant.

"Ms. Stewart, you're smart. Can't you see that only Ms. Thomas can make Mr. White break his rules?"

"Your previous actions were harmless, and Mr. White didn't pursue them."

"But you shouldn't have set your sights on Ms. Thomas. Going abroad is your best option."

After a whole night of commotion, Evelyn went back, washed up briefly, and lay down.

She slept until noon, rolling around in bed a few times before getting up to wash.

Going downstairs, Pearl immediately came up to her: "Ms. Thomas, there's a guest who's been waiting outside for a long time. Would you like to eat first or see them first?"

"A guest?"

She paused, instinctively asking: "Why didn't you wake me?"

"Mr. White said it's not anyone important, no need to disturb Ms. Thomas."

Had Benjamin seen them?

He seemed cold but was actually a very well-mannered person. Why would he make someone wait so long for no reason?

"Who is it?" Evelyn had a pretty good idea, but still asked.

"It's Mr. Thomas."

As expected.

She'd basically hit him every time she saw him, and he still hadn't woken up from past patterns?

She was speechless about their firm belief that she couldn't let go of Matthew.

"Let's eat first."

Matthew had already waited this long anyway; making him wait a bit longer didn't matter.

After she leisurely finished lunch, Matthew, who had been sitting in his car outside for nearly the entire morning, was finally allowed into Benjamin's villa.

His complexion was terrible, with obvious dark circles under his eyes, and his eyes were filled with bloodshot veins, like he'd pulled an all-nighter without catching up on sleep.

"Evelyn, how long are you going to keep this up?"

Evelyn sat on the sofa, eating velvet cake specially made by the kitchen.

Sweet but not cloying, melting in the mouth—it really tasted wonderful.

Too bad there was someone here ruining her appetite.

She put down the small plate, took a sip of water from her cup, and then slowly spoke: "After sitting outside all morning, you still haven't calmed down?"

"You knew I was outside the whole time? You did it on purpose!"

The expression on Matthew's face suddenly became agitated, and he muttered: "Impossible, how can this be?"

Evelyn placed her cup on the table.

Her voice, neither light nor heavy, interrupted Matthew's muttering at just the right moment.

"Just say it directly. What do you want?"

She hadn't actually known he was outside, so it didn't count as intentional.

"You..."

Matthew looked at Evelyn sitting on the sofa with her calm expression, various emotions flashing through his eyes.

Of course, he knew that the current Evelyn had changed drastically from the past.

But he still found it hard to believe she could really be this indifferent to their past.

Could it be that she really had no place for him in her heart anymore?

How was that possible?

He clenched his fists, suppressing the various thoughts churning in his heart, and let out a heavy breath, as if making some kind of decision.

"Evelyn, you're doing this because you discovered my feelings for Sophia, right?"

Matthew gave a bitter laugh and, without caring about her response, continued on his own.

"I don't know when it started, but she became all I could see and think about."

"But I really didn't expect you to be so intolerant of her..."

"We're getting married soon. I promise I'll never see her again. Please let her go, okay?"
