Chapter 64

Chapter 64

In Freya's crazed eyes, a flash of strange emotion appeared. The needle in her hand was already stabbing toward Evelyn's eye.

Was Freya faking it?

The sudden turn of events made Evelyn realize she had underestimated her opponent.

The distance was too close, and she was lying lazily on the sofa without any sense of protection.

But to save her eyes, she rolled her whole body off the sofa.

Even so, the needle still broke through her skin, leaving a long bloody mark on her neck.

"What are you doing?"

Benjamin walked in to see a scene that almost made his heart stop. He stepped forward and kicked Freya away without mercy, then bent down to pick up Evelyn from the floor.

"Are you okay?"

His concern was obvious.

Looking at the blood beading on Evelyn's snow-white skin, he didn't even have the mind to kill anyone.

Freya, kicked to the ground, tried several times but couldn't stand up.

Did Benjamin want her dead with that kick just now?

The panic in her heart completely disappeared, replaced by overwhelming hatred for Evelyn.

But it was only for a moment. Her face immediately showed a panicked and helpless expression.

"Why? Ms. Thomas, why would you do this to me?"

"I only think of Benjamin as my brother. You saw the situation just now—the most important person in his eyes is only you."

"In this situation, why would you still set me up?"

"Now I've been injected with drugs, my whole life is ruined. Are you satisfied?"

Her low accusation, combined with her figure curled up on the ground, was tragic to the extreme and filled with complete despair.

Benjamin sat on the sofa holding Evelyn, looking at the wound, wanting to touch it but not daring to. He completely ignored the hysterical Freya.

"Go get the doctor."

After Chase came to his senses, he immediately ran out.

Recently, Benjamin and Evelyn's relationship had been stable, making life easier for those of them who were subordinates.

Why did someone always have to show up and cause trouble?

If anything happened to Evelyn, he would be the first one to get scolded.

Run faster!

The surgeon looked at the bloody mark on Evelyn with a complicated expression.

If he had arrived any later, it would have already scabbed over.

But facing Benjamin's murderous glare, he didn't dare have any opinion. Instead, he gave thoughtful advice.

"Ms. Thomas, don't let it get wet for the next few days, and it will heal in a few days. Don't worry, it won't leave a scar."

"Run tests on it." Benjamin suddenly spoke in a heavy tone.

The doctor and Evelyn both looked up at him, their expressions particularly complicated.

Freya, who had been helped to sit on the hospital bed, clenched her hands tightly under the blanket, angry that she hadn't managed to stick the needle into Evelyn's skin!

Even if it couldn't kill her, it would have made her suffer.

Now, for this minor injury, he needed tests?

"She has a problem; that needle was an injection needle." His expression unchanged, he gave his reason.

The doctor's expression became serious: "Then tests are definitely needed."

"Benjamin, what do you mean?"

Freya's weak voice sounded, her eyes filled with tears: "I know I didn't control my emotions just now, but after what she did to me, how could I hold back? Also, by testing her, you mean... You suspect I have a disease?"

Her pitiful appearance, combined with her pale face, was truly heartbreaking to see.

Unfortunately, Benjamin had a heart of stone.

Forget about Benjamin feeling sorry for her—he didn't even glance at her. All his attention was on Evelyn.

"You were injected with drugs; there are residues in your blood."

Benjamin's icy voice was explaining to her, but it also killed all the hope in her heart.

Freya couldn't suppress her emotions anymore: "She did so many terrible things to me, and you don't care at all. Now you're only worried about her being affected?"

"She didn't harm you."

Benjamin's tone was calm as water, matching his handsome, emotionless expression, yet it was like the sharpest sword in the world, piercing her heart.

"She... she..."

Benjamin's voice was too certain, and Freya couldn't find words for a moment.

She pinched herself hard before speaking: "She deliberately spilled wine all over me, and giving me her clothes was actually a signal to cooperate with Jeremy..."

Freya cried uncontrollably, but her eyes still looked straight at Benjamin.

"She did so many terrible things, Benjamin. I'm not asking you to get justice for me."

"But someone as terrible as her—are you really going to keep her by your side?"

Evelyn had no way to prove her innocence in this matter.

Her brow furrowed slightly.

She had to admit that Freya looked too miserable right now.

As long as Benjamin had even a little bit of reluctance to let her go, he would definitely do something for her...

Just as Evelyn's unease began to grow, Benjamin's warm, dry hand grasped her slightly cool one.

"If she wanted to deal with you, it wouldn't need to be this complicated."

"What?" Freya didn't understand what Benjamin meant and asked instinctively.

He looked up at her, his eyes indifferent: "Telling me would be enough."

Everyone Evelyn had said she wanted to deal with, Benjamin had dealt with—no exceptions.

At least Freya wasn't that exception.

She stared at Benjamin blankly, too shocked to even let her tears fall.

After a long while, she finally found her voice.

"Benjamin, how can you say that?"

"Have you forgotten? My brother's last wish was for you to take good care of me."

Freya's tearful accusation made it seem like Benjamin was an ungrateful person.

Unease flashed through Evelyn's heart. Being accused like this by someone entrusted by his savior—how could anyone handle that?

She grasped his hand back, wanting to comfort him, but he had already started speaking slowly.

"Because Soren asked me to take care of you, I haven't refused any of your requests."

"But you shouldn't have touched Evelyn."

Evelyn was his bottom line. Cross it and die.

"I... I was just too angry. It was her... it was her who was going to ruin my whole life."

Freya screamed unwillingly: "Benjamin, how can you do this? She clearly set me up!"

No matter what, she couldn't admit she had wrongly accused Evelyn, so she could only hold onto this point.

"You really didn't listen to what I said."

"Forget about whether she deliberately targeted you—even if she had that idea, she wouldn't need to do it herself."

Benjamin's voice had no fluctuation, calm to the extreme, yet chilling to the core.

"If she wanted to deal with you, one word would be enough."

"Freya, I'll still cover your living expenses from now on, but that's all."

"Take care of yourself."

With that, he scooped up Evelyn and stood up to leave.

No matter how much Freya cried and shouted behind him, he didn't look back or stop.

"You..." Evelyn looked at Benjamin's sharp jawline, speaking almost to herself, "Aren't you afraid I really can't stand her and act against your savior?"

Evelyn's head rested in the crook of his shoulder: "Everyone says I'm arrogant and domineering. How dare you, how dare you believe me?"

Her voice became so low at the end that it was almost inaudible, making it impossible to tell if she was sighing or asking.
