Chapter 34

Chapter 34

"You're making it way too obvious that you're hiding something."

Evelyn looked at Sophia. Her expression didn't change at all, but the mockery in her eyes grew thicker.

"It's just that with acting skills like yours, how do you even survive in the entertainment industry? Everyone here can tell who you're talking about. You might as well have just announced Benjamin's social security number."

Sophia clearly hadn't expected Evelyn to call her out so directly.

Her face instantly became like a knocked-over paint palette, flashing through various colors.

"You don't even know his Social Security number. After all, something that private—given your relationship with him, how could you possibly know it?"

At the end, Evelyn smiled maliciously.

"How dare you!" Sophia shrieked, unable to contain her emotions.

Benjamin's gaze shot over like a sharp blade. Her heart went cold, and at the same time, her resentment became even more obvious.

Sophia's fingers clenched into fists. She took several deep breaths to push down her emotions, then looked at him with a pitiful, sorrowful expression.

"Benjamin, I know you like Evelyn, but you don't want her to get in deeper with Matthew and become unreasonable, do you?"

"He's happy to spoil me. You got a problem with that? You'll just have to deal with it!"

Evelyn really didn't like the way Sophia looked at Benjamin.

She tugged at his clothes and looked up at him. "Let's go. Let's not bother with them anymore."

Benjamin looked down at Evelyn in his arms. Her beautiful eyes held a hint of anxiety about being rejected, but more than that, they held hope.

His thin lips curved into a smile so faint it was almost unnoticeable, but his answer was very clear: "Okay."

The next second, he lifted her up horizontally in his arms and strode toward the exit.

His sudden action made Evelyn freeze for a moment. She instinctively wanted to get down, but he lowered his head slightly to her ear and spoke.

"Walking in a place like this, aren't you scared?"

Thinking of the chaotic noises from both sides of the hallway earlier, she instinctively curled closer into his arms. Benjamin's expression softened considerably.

Sophia watched this scene, jealousy nearly overflowing in her heart.

She could barely contain the surging emotions inside: "Evelyn, you said Matthew was the only one in your heart. But now you're so openly together with Benjamin. Aren't you afraid Matthew will be hurt?"

Matthew was Evelyn's true love. She would absolutely never give him up.

This was Sophia's last card to play against Evelyn!

But Evelyn wrapped her arms around Benjamin's neck. Her head popped out from his shoulder.

"Sophia, why should I be afraid he'll be hurt? My fiancé and I are affectionate with each other—isn't that normal? Besides, are you trying to drive a wedge between Benjamin and me?"

Sophia wants to flirt with Benjamin?

No way!

Even if Benjamin's wife were someone else, she wouldn't allow him to be with this morally corrupt Sophia.

Evelyn hugged Benjamin's neck tightly, resting her head on his shoulder. "Let's go quickly. I feel scared staying here."

Benjamin's Adam's apple bobbed slightly. Feeling the dependence of the person in his arms, his heart was warm.

He carried her out of the Sunset Motel. Evelyn breathed a sigh of relief.

"How could he be here? It's too scary. I never want to go there again." As she spoke, she couldn't help but shudder.

Her fear wasn't simply about this kind of place with its mixed crowd. More than that, the tragic abuse she suffered in her past life seemed to connect somehow with everything here, casting a huge shadow over her heart.

Benjamin didn't understand her thoughts. He only knew she was afraid.

"I didn't think it through carefully enough. I won't let you come to places like this again."

"You shouldn't come either!"

As soon as she said it, she regretted it. Was she being too controlling?

"Okay."

Benjamin, in a good mood, didn't mind this at all. He sat in his seat and slowly closed his eyes.

Having just quieted down, Evelyn felt a bit relieved that they didn't have to talk about what had just happened.

But as the silence stretched on, she began to feel awkward.

In the car were only she, Benjamin, and the driver. Chase was probably handling the aftermath and hadn't followed them down.

She secretly glanced at Benjamin beside her. Below his short hair were sharp features.

But with his eyes closed now, his whole face looked much softer.

Especially with the light streaming in, highlighting his high nose bridge and thin lips, he looked particularly handsome.

They say people with thin lips are the most heartless.

But the Benjamin before her eyes was the most devoted person she'd ever met.

It's just...

Evelyn sighed, and suddenly her hand was grasped.

"Don't worry. Things like that won't happen again."

Benjamin's gentle voice carried concern, and his dry, warm hand dispelled the shadows in her heart.

In this life, she wouldn't let Benjamin leave. He would always protect her, so naturally, he wouldn't let Sophia trick her into going to Zephyria, and those terrible things wouldn't happen.

"Benjamin, why do you like me?"

Her voice was very soft, filled with confusion.

Evelyn came from a good family and was beautiful, but as Matthew said, beauty was the least worthy value to praise.

And her beauty would fade with the grinding of time, while Benjamin's wealth would only increase day by day.

She really didn't understand what about her was worth him lowering himself again and again, just asking to stay by her side.

"Because you're one of a kind." His hand gently brushed across her nose. "Don't be afraid. I won't let anyone hurt you."

After a second of silence, she realized he was talking about the car accident.

His personality was indeed extreme, but his kindness to her was beyond question.

Even if he wanted to do something, he would definitely put her safety first. A car accident... no matter how comprehensive the plan, it was too dangerous. He couldn't possibly do that.

After Evelyn realized this, she looked up at him. "Aren't you going to ask me what evidence they were talking about?"

"Do you believe them?" Instead of answering, he asked back, opening his eyes and turning his head to look at her.

His eyes were calm yet deep.

Just one look gave the feeling of being drawn in, even drowning.

She wanted to turn her head away, but he pressed her into his arms first, not letting her avoid him.

"Do you believe what they said and their so-called evidence? Do you think I would plan a car accident to harm you?"

She couldn't hear much emotion in his voice, but the arm around her shoulder was very strong, even making her bones hurt.

But she didn't remind him or stop him.

She suddenly realized that the reason he was so agitated was that he was very hurt inside.

"Benjamin, I know you're not exactly a purely good person, but you would never hurt me."

"You haven't hurt me before, you won't now, and you won't in the future either."

Evelyn's beautiful eyes sparkled. Through her pupils reflected Benjamin's usually cold and hard face, now showing traces of cracks.

"So, even knowing Matthew was behind the plot against you, you're still going to treat his leg?"
