Chapter 114

Chapter 114

As Gerald's words fell, everyone gasped.

Just moments ago, when people were saying Evelyn played around, they were basically just talking.

Especially with the obvious contrast between Benjamin and Gerald together, even a fool would know who to choose.

But now...

The gazes falling on Evelyn became complicated - some contemptuous, some surprised, some probing, and some filled with an indescribable envy.

Freya realized what Gerald had said and almost laughed out loud.

She had been worried that once Evelyn's identity was discovered, Gerald would get scared and quickly switch sides.

Now she felt relieved. She quickly managed her expression and sighed softly, "So... you two really have..."

Her trailing words were almost mumbled, inaudible to others.

But everyone understood what she meant.

Evelyn gritted her back teeth. Hadn't she hit him hard enough just now?

Gerald still dared to slander her. Was it too late to beat him up again?

With that thought, she had already kicked out at him.

Freya acted as if she was frightened and burst into tears, "Don't - don't hit him anymore, he's already been beaten badly enough."

"Ms. Thomas, even if he said something wrong, you can't beat him to death."

"If you really kill him, won't this whole thing become even harder to explain?"

The others didn't speak, but their looks at Evelyn made their meaning clear - they thought she was trying to silence him, or scare Gerald into not telling the truth.

Evelyn laughed coldly and looked at Freya, "Just now you were worried I was being bullied, so you promptly notified Benjamin. Now you're worried about this guy getting beaten. Whose side are you on exactly?"

"I... I..." Freya seemed scared, so nervous she could only cry without being able to speak.

"Just a couple of words and you're like this? Acting like I just beat you instead, scared out of your mind."

Evelyn's brows furrowed slightly, her eyes cold, "Unless this whole thing really does have something to do with you?"

"You..."

Freya seemed truly angry and didn't want to hide anymore. "Just now, everyone broke down the door together. You know best what the situation in the room was!"

After a pause, she seemed to realize something.

"No wonder you're so angry - it's because I got Benjamin to come over, right? Otherwise, you could have covered this whole thing up?"

"I never thought you were this kind of person!"

"Oh, right, he just said you called him, so there must be a call record on your phones!"

As she said this, her eyes showed anger, but her heart was blooming with joy.

Earlier, she had used Evelyn's phone to call Gerald. Based on the timing, no matter how Evelyn explained it, it would be useless.

"You want to check my phone?"

Evelyn glanced at the phone on the table.

"No need."

Benjamin suddenly spoke, his handsome face tense, "This matter ends here today. No one is to mention it again."

Covering for her?

Everyone's faces showed the same thought.

How could Freya be willing to let it go?

She clenched her fists and looked over miserably, "Ms. Thomas, I know you have a lot of resentment toward me."

"But Benjamin is already ignoring me because of you. What more do you want?"

"Will slandering me change anything?"

She gave a bitter laugh, "Benjamin clearly wants to cover for you. What can I say?"

"It's my fault for being nosy, telling Benjamin about this, and causing a misunderstanding between you two."

"I'm sorry." She bowed deeply with tears in her eyes, as if she was extremely wronged yet helpless, and could only apologize.

But this whole performance - where was the apology? It clearly made everyone think Evelyn was bullying people with her power and having an affair with Gerald.

Even though modern society was tolerant about such things, cheating was wrong from any angle.

A few dance troupe members who were close to Freya and had straightforward personalities couldn't stand it anymore.

"What's the big deal about checking a phone?"

"Exactly, unless you're feeling guilty?"

"Stop it!" Freya seemed frightened and quickly tried to stop them.

Freya shook her head and said softly, "She's already very unhappy. If this continues... you'll get dragged into it too."

As Freya spoke, she quickly glanced at Evelyn's expression, as if afraid that those two girls would be affected by her.

"Dragged into it? Is it that serious?"

Evelyn spoke up, "I think today's matter needs to be cleared up, after all, we'll be in the same dance troupe from now on."

"With this kind of reputation, how will everyone see me?"

"However..."

She paused, the smile on her face deepening with a sense of having everything under control, "I have a simpler way to prove who's been scheming behind the scenes. Don't you all want to know?"

Where there are many women, there's bound to be constant conflict, especially in places like dance troupes where women gather.

The troupe members' discussions weren't loud, but they were clearly very curious.

"Benjamin," Evelyn turned her head to look at the man beside her, "What time did Freya call you?"

He was somewhat puzzled but took out his phone and gave the exact time, "9:52."

"Got it." Evelyn looked at Freya, deliberately drawing out her tone.

Freya was getting a bit flustered but didn't dare show it on her face.

"I called Benjamin because I was worried something had happened to you. Who knew you would turn out like this..."

"Is that so? Then I really must thank you."

Evelyn was too lazy to listen to her nonsense and cut her off directly, "Mr. Lopez, what time did you run into her?"

Gregory froze, sweat starting to form on his forehead.

How would he remember?

Who has nothing better to do than constantly stare at their watch?

Freya didn't know what Evelyn was trying to do and was also getting nervous, "What do you mean?"

"Let's see how long after you called Benjamin it took you to run into Mr. Lopez."

Evelyn's face showed a gentle smile, her voice soft, yet somehow frightening.

"Logically, from my dressing room door to Mr. Lopez's office is five minutes at most."

"If it's longer than that, I'm curious."

"Were you really worried something happened to me, or were you afraid they'd come too early and miss the exciting show?"

They were all smart women - how could they not understand each other's tactics?

The way everyone looked at Freya wasn't as pure as it had been initially.

After Freya noticed this, her heart panicked. She never expected Evelyn would think of such detailed things.

At that time... wasn't Evelyn's consciousness supposed to be fuzzy?

Her sense of time should have been unclear, too.

Freya suppressed the unease in her heart and spoke through gritted teeth, "At the time, I saw someone come in and heard strange sounds, so I immediately called Benjamin."

"Then I rushed to find Mr. Lopez, and ran into Mr. Lopez in the hallway."

Gregory was about to nod - things did happen that way.

But Marcella suddenly voiced her doubt.

"That's not right. Just now, Isolde, Lucy, and I had already been standing in the hallway for several minutes before Freya came over."

Isolde Porter and Lucy Kim, hearing themselves mentioned, couldn't stay out of it and could only nod.

Evelyn smiled knowingly and looked at Freya.
