Chapter 65 Flirty god
Chapter 65 Flirty god
Aria POV
Nicholas' voice fills the room, “What’s going on here?”
Hades and I pull apart instantly, like two teenagers getting caught. My pulse race and heat could low in my stomach. Nicholas stands a few feet away, brows drawn together. His eyes flicks between us.
“Were you two…kissing?” He asks, his voice right, almost hopeful that he’s wrong.
I open my mouth, but Nicholas doesn’t give me the chance.
“Aria, are you actually considering marrying him?” He says in a sharp tone, his wounded pride leaking through. “Aiden black doesn’t know you, or love you. He never could, not the way I do.”
Hades steps forward before I can respond. He places himself squarely between Nicholas and me, broad shoulders blocking Nichola’s line of sight completely. His voice is calm, composed and lethal in a way that makes Nicholas stiffen.
“I am very capable of doing everything you can.” Hades says evenly. “And more, if you were actually doing anything worth competing with.”
Nicholas stutters, “This isn’t a competition.”
Hades tilts his head slightly,”Then why do you feel so threatened?”
I almost smile at the reply. This is almost too perfect.
Nicholas turns back to me, frustration and desperation in his voice, “Aria, you can’t be serious. We’ve been together for years, you can’t just throw it away because some Trillionaire with a god complex walked into your life.”
Oh he has no idea how right he is about that. But before I can answer he drops. Like actually drops to his knees.
The sound of his knees hitting the polished floor echoes around the room, my breath catches, more in surprise than emotion.
Nicholas reaches into his pocket with trembling fingers and pulls out a small red velvet box.
He opens it. And inside seats the same tiny modest sized right he had gotten me the last time. I had held on to that ring dearly for my life. It was all I wanted. Now with all the gems Hades has offered me in just a week of meeting him. This is nothing compared. Not like it was anything in the first place.
“I was going to propose tonight.” He says looking up at me with pleading eyes. “I wanted it to be special baby. I wanted it to be ours. Marry me Aria.”
The irony of him begging now makes me nearly laugh. In my past life I begged for scraps of affection and care. I bent and broke myself backwards trying to prove I was worth choosing and now he is on his knees desperate for me to pick. Even the last time he proposed to me, he had just given it to me on a plate with no effort. But now.
I feel absolutely powerful. I step forward slowly ignoring the way Hades jaw tightens beside me.
“Nicholas,” I say softly, “Stand up please.”
Relief floods his face as he quickly rises. I take the ring from his hand and close my hand around it.
“I have to respect my father’s wishes.” I continue calmly. “And he wants me to give this situation time.” I meet Nicholas' eyes, letting hope dangle in his face to make him compliant.
Oh how the tables have turned.
“After the two months are over, I’ll choose. If you want that choice to be you, you’ll have to prove it. To my father, to everyone, you will have to show up for me darling.”
He nods eagerly. “I will. I swear.” He slips his arm around my waist possessively, pulling me closer.
I feel Hades tense beside me. His fingers pull into fists to restrain himself. I know how much he hates other men touching me.
Good for him too.
“You go back to dinner darling,” I say gently, disengaging from Nicholas' grip. “I need to speak to Aiden properly.”
Nicholas hesitates. His eyes flashing with suspicion. But he leans in to me anyway. I turn my head just in time, his lips brush my cheek instead of my mouth. I pat his back to make up for it like I’m soothing an overexcited dog.
He flushes, embarrassed by my dodged kiss and finally leaves the room with a bang.
The moment he’s gone, Hades grabs me again. He slams my back against the closed door and his mouth crashes into mine hard and unrestrained. Like he’s been holding himself back for hours.
Heat floods my body instantly. My lips move against his and my fingers curl into his jacket before I can stop myself, my pussy tightens with need as he presses his warm body against mine.
I hate how much my body responds to him. Always ready to have him in my embrace. I hate how much control he has over my body and he is starting to realize it.
I shove him away, breathless, “Don’t.”
He smiles slowly and infuriatingly hot, “So. Do you agree to the agreement now?”
I roll my eyes, even though my heart hammers. I hate that he’s right. I need his power and as much as I don’t like the underworld, Freda, Bella, my mom and Rose are there and I would hate for anything to happen to them.
Fine.
“Yes,” I snap. “But I have one rule.”
His brow arches. “Only one?”
“You don’t get to kiss me whenever you feel like it,” I say firmly. “Not like that.”
His smirk deepens. “You like it.”
“I didn’t say that.” I squint at him
“You kissed me back,” he murmurs. “I can’t promise I’ll stop Aria.”
I glare at him, “You’re impossible.”
“And you’re coming back to the underworld tonight,” he says softly, eyes dropping to my lips, then lower to my heaving cleavage. “We have…things to discuss.”
My cheeks turn pink no matter how I try to control it. The thought of going back to the underworld and being his wife without the thought of running away. I turn back and walk out of the room back to the dining room before I can embarrass myself further.
Hades follows behind me.
As we step back into the room, Selene’s gaze snaps to us. She doesn’t even bother to hide her irritation.
“Sis.” She blinks at me with a pout, her voice already mocking. “Funny how you keep following Aiden Black everywhere,” she says loudly, “It’s almost like you’re gold-digging for attention… or maybe it’s just the money.”
The table goes quiet. But I don’t hesitate. “Funny how you’re still talking.” I reply coldly, taking a sip of my wine, “When no one asked for your opinion. Again.”
Selene stiffens. My father looks impressed and Hades looks proud of me.
I smirk at that. Dinner ends shortly after and we all walk Hades to the door with me in the forefront, pushed forward by my dear lovely father.
“Goodnight Miss Aria.” He steps forward and presses a kiss to my cheek in front of everyone. My heart pounds hard in my chest as I turn to him, “I’ll see you later,” he whispers, winking before leaving in an exotic waiting car.
Selene looks shell shocked and storms out and my father practically dances upstairs. Nicholas leaves the room angrily.
I head upstairs, my heart racing, my mind spinning with what will happen with this agreement now. Is he always going to be this flirty? Will I be able to control my hormones anymore around this hot god?
As I pass through Selene’s room, her voice drifts through the cracked open door.
“This isn’t going according to plan.” She whispers urgently into her phone, “We need to discuss other things”
I freeze but my footsteps are loud and she ends the call immediately. She steps closer to the door, “Hello?”
Panic surges, I rush to hide behind a door but I hear her coming. I open a portal without thinking. I can’t let her know I know about her plans.
I step into the portal just as she reaches for the door and darkness swallows me.
