Chapter 291 Public Prescription
Chapter 292 A Terrifying Scene
The silence in Ethan's office was deathly.
Diana carefully examined the children's blood test reports. The drugs must have been partially absorbed, which was why the detected levels were so low.
Her knuckles turned white as she gripped the test reports, and her body trembled slightly.
She should have realized it when she saw Doyle. That damned man was supposed to be dying, yet he looked fine. He must have been using forbidden drugs.
But she never imagined he would use children as test subjects.
"Only Horizon Healthcare has this kind of drug, right?" Diana asked hoarsely.
"It appears so." Ethan licked his dry lips. "Every year they only supply a hundred doses, and all the drugs are numbered. Maybe if we track down who bought the drugs, we can find something."
He was a doctor, and this was exactly the kind of thing he hated most.
Every life deserves respect, regardless of wealth.
The oldest of these children was barely ten years old, yet they were being given these drugs, which would cause them lifelong harm.
What was even more terrifying was that some of these children had also been given drugs to control them—he had already guessed this was done by certain organizations.
"Diana, I'll have people investigate. The truth will come out." Nicholas held Diana's hand.
"Any news about Vivian?" Diana turned her head, her eyes cold. "Did Brice take her?"
Diana didn't believe Nicholas couldn't find anything. The only possibility was that he had found something but hadn't told her because he was worried about her treating Thalia.
Nicholas's eyes flickered, then he nodded. "Clio located Vivian's children's watch. Luke has already taken people there."
"What? This?" Only then did Diana realize that Luke, who had been with them all along, was gone.
So much had happened today that she'd forgotten Bruce had driven them here.
"Why didn't you tell me about something this important?" Diana was a bit anxious and immediately stood up.
Then her phone started vibrating frantically. Seeing it was a call from Clio, Diana immediately answered. "Clio, have you found Vivian?"
"The location is at the port. Our people went there. There's something strange." On Clio's end, Slim's voice could be heard shouting, "Ms. Windsor, the orphanage I used to be at—all the children have been adopted. This isn't right, it's not right!"
"Ms. Windsor, many of the children at the orphanage have disabilities. Usually it takes a year or two before anyone comes to adopt them, but in the last two weeks, fifteen children under ten have all been adopted. This isn't right."
Slim couldn't explain exactly why it wasn't right, but he just felt it wasn't. "Their paperwork is all legal, but these families are all overseas families. It would be impossible to do follow-up visits later."
"Check their exit records. Those who haven't left the country must have bought plane or ship tickets. Get all their information." Diana hung up and immediately looked at Nicholas.
Nicholas had just put down his phone too. "Eric will bring people right away. Send me those people's information, and I'll prohibit them from leaving Stardust City."
Hearing Nicholas's words, Diana finally breathed a sigh of relief and immediately forwarded the information Slim sent to Nicholas.
Then she dialed Brice's number.
After a while, Brice answered. "Didn't Ms. Windsor say she wasn't going to deal with the York Family's affairs anymore? Why are you calling?"
"The island can go to the kidnappers, but not the Herbal Compendium—it can be converted to ransom money." Diana's voice carried some urgency. "I'm now the legitimate head of the York Family. Tell the kidnappers I'm willing to pay the ransom and have them release the hostages."
"Really?" Brice's tone carried some surprise, but then he calmed down. "But they don't want ransom money. What do we do?"
"The Herbal Compendium is handwritten content. It's very old and much of the content is already unclear. I can also make a fake one to send over. Set up a time with them to contact me. It's best to make the exchange today, so they don't affect the Windsor Corporation's reputation."
Without waiting for Brice to answer, Diana quickly hung up.
Her heart was pounding. She didn't know if it was influenced by her past life, but every time she heard about people at the port, she felt suffocated.
"You're not going." Nicholas's slightly commanding voice rang out. "I told you, you're more important than anyone else. Don't deal with these people."
If he hadn't been afraid Diana would act impulsively, he would have told her from the start that they already had news about Vivian.
He knew Diana had this kind of personality. She said she didn't care about these people, but inside she was softer than anyone.
Especially toward the innocent—she would never stand by and watch them die.
"I know, I'm just stalling him, otherwise..."
Before Diana could finish, her phone rang again.
"Ms. Windsor, they've already replied. The exchange is in two hours. Besides Starwave Island, they also want the Herbal Compendium and a ten billion dollar bearer check."
"Is Declan in their hands too? I want to talk to him." Diana asked in a low voice. "Only he knows how to grow Dawnveil Clover. If he's not there, I refuse the exchange."
Brice didn't speak for a long time, and his breathing became heavier.
He had kidnapped Vivian just to clear himself of suspicion. Who would believe a biological father would kidnap his daughter? For this, he had even used an informant that Horizon Healthcare had planted in the Spencer family hospital for years.
Originally, Brice had only wanted to use public opinion to force Diana to comply. He just hadn't expected that Declan could actually grow various precious medicinal herbs. If that idiot Natalia hadn't said this, Brice would probably still be in the dark.
No wonder that fool Lavern became the family head—turned out he had hidden talents all along.
With such impressive skills, yet unable to make the York Family rich—Lavern was an idiot, just like his sister Thalia.
After thinking for a moment, Brice finally said, "I'm not sure, but I think he should be there."
Since Diana was asking this, she already knew everything.
He didn't mind Diana knowing everything. As long as the domestic police couldn't find evidence against him, everything would be fine.
Anyway, now he had that idiot Willow to take the blame, her daughter Natalia was ruthless, and with Wilford and Maeve as scapegoats, Brice could definitely leave Seraphim safely.
Brice gently stroked the hair of the sleeping Vivian beside him. "I'll try to contact them. Declan really is talented. It would be a shame if he died."
"Only he is the most valuable. I hope you remember that." Diana hung up and finally felt relieved.
As long as Declan had value, he wouldn't die.
As for Vivian, they could only hope that Luke and the others would find her soon.
"My people have already gone to find him, so you don't need to worry too much." Nicholas took Diana's hand.
Her muscles suddenly tensed, and her pupils began to dilate.
Diana breathed heavily, once again seeing the scene that terrified her.
