Nydia, however, smiled indifferently and said, "Thank you for complimenting me, Mr. Whitehead. In the past, I always wanted to be low-key and not make Jesse jealous, but on occasions like today, I have to tidy up a bit, or people who don't know might think he abuses me."
In one sentence, she not only resolved the misunderstanding, but also expressed that her relationship with Jesse is good. Everyone was surprised except for her.
"Jesse, let's go sit over there. It seems like most of the guests have arrived," Nydia said, bending down to Jesse, and then standing behind the wheelchair. "Mr. Whitehead, we'll go over there first."
She pushed the wheelchair towards the main table.
Jesse remained stiff throughout the whole process, unable to guess what Nydia was up to, and could only use his eyes to signal his assistant to be more attentive.
"Grandpa, we're here to celebrate your birthday. Happy birthday and good health," Nydia came to the main table and sent her wishes to Old Malone, who was sitting in the main seat.
"Thank you, thank you. Please sit down."
"Nydia, Jesse is here. It's been too busy today to greet you. Feel free to enjoy yourselves," Old Malone said.
"Mr. Willette, Mrs. Willette, you can go and attend to your business. We'll take care of ourselves," Nydia addressed Willette's parents as Mr. Willette, Mrs. Willette, and she was glad she didn't call them dad and mom before she was reborn, or she would have been disgusted!
"What are you doing, Nydia?" When they sat down and there was no one around, Jesse asked coldly.
"What's wrong with me? Are you hungry? Do you want to eat something first?"
Seeing her calm appearance, Jesse couldn't be angry, but he still felt uncomfortable all over his body. Moreover, countless pairs of eyes were on Nydia, making him even more uncomfortable. He suddenly regretted buying this suit.
Willette and Barclay greeted the guests and sat down. Most of the guests had arrived, and after the opening remarks, everyone began to eat. The main table was a big table, with many of the Malones sitting at it. Although it was the Malone's birthday banquet, the main characters had become Jesse and Nydia.
"Nydia, I really can't tell that you're the mother of two children. How do you maintain your youth?" Someone looked at Nydia enviously.
"If you don't have to worry about anything like her, of course you can stay young. The premise is that you have a husband who can make money." This sounded very sarcastic.
"Cousin, you're being sour. Nydia is naturally beautiful," Willette spoke up for Nydia.
"Willette, when you get married, you'll be able to maintain yourself well too. Mr. Evans can make money too, so you can just be a wealthy wife at ease."
Willette smiled and shook her head. "No, I have to fight alongside him. Otherwise, it would be too hard for him alone."
Nydia tugged at the corner of her mouth. Was she indirectly saying that Nydia was lazy and didn't understand Jesse's struggles? She immediately picked up a piece of fish and put it in Jesse's bowl.
"Jesse, you work so hard every day to provide a better life for me and our children. I won't be lazy anymore."
Who could resist her cute and spoiled appearance?
The men present couldn't help but say, "We also want a wife who knows how to act cute. So sweet!"
Jesse's response was to eat the piece of fish she had picked up for him.
Nydia secretly breathed a sigh of relief.
"Molly, Tavish, tell Mommy what you want to eat, and Mommy will get it for you."
Tavish suddenly looked like he had seen a ghost and thought to himself, "This is too weird."
Mommy, if you get kidnapped, just blink your eyes!
However, some people, whether they were straightforward or intentional, asked Nydia, "Nydia, aren't you mad at Mr. Pascall anymore? You used to be so mean to him!"
After speaking, they looked at Nydia with a look of wanting to watch the show.
Nydia suddenly looked surprised. "Was I really mean to him before?"
Almost everyone at the table nodded.
"It's impossible. Just looking at his face makes me feel less angry. How could I be mean to him? He's so good-looking, how could I bear to be mean to him?"
"..." Nydia, you've changed!
"Why bother men being good-looking? It's ability that counts!" A middle-aged man with a big belly spoke up.
"Isn't it good to be both good-looking and capable?" Nydia looked at Jesse with admiration. "Does anyone think my Jesse lacks ability?"
No one responded to this.
Jesse's ability was evident to all. He was already a genius before his legs were injured. After his legs were injured, he still managed to turn the Pascall family's fortunes around and made their business stronger and bigger. Everyone was somewhat in awe of his abilities and dared only to use Nydia to provoke him.
Willette and Barclay exchanged a strange glance. Why was Nydia so protective of Jesse today? She was praising Jesse with every sentence.
"I have something to tell you later," Willette messaged Nydia.
"Okay," Nydia replied.
When everyone was almost done eating, they started to move around. People were toasting with each other, and some took the opportunity to meet friends and discuss cooperation. The children started playing on their own.
There were quite a few people who came to chat with Jesse. Recently, Jesse was quite popular, and everyone wanted to collaborate with him. It's hard to see Jesse on a normal day, so they couldn't miss this opportunity.
Nydia took this opportunity to find Willette. As soon as Willette saw her, she anxiously asked, "Nydia, are you... in love with Jesse?"
"What are you talking about, sister?" Nydia looked puzzled.
"You've been speaking up for Jesse all day and acting like you have a good relationship with him. What's going on? Are you being fooled by Jesse?" Willette had been angry since earlier, and now she fired off at Nydia.
"Sister, you're so mean." Nydia said in a aggrieved tone.
Willette was stunned, realizing that she had indeed been too hasty. She immediately changed her tone, "I'm worried about you. I'm afraid you'll be fooled by him and then..."
"Sister, I am just trying to gain his trust. Otherwise, it would be difficult to steal the plan later, don't you think?"
"Really?"
"When did I ever lie to you, sister?" Nydia looked even more aggrieved when she said this.
Willette thought about it and realized that Nydia had never lied to her. But why did she feel like Nydia was being evasive today?
"I'm sorry, sister. Let me apologize to you." She took a drink and handed it to Nydia. "I know you can't drink alcohol right now, so have a drink instead."
Nydia reached out to take it, but suddenly her hand slipped and the cup fell to the ground.
"Ah! I'm sorry, I didn't catch it."
"It's okay, it's okay. I'll have someone clean it up. Don't move, I'll get you another cup. Wait for me."
