THE BATTLE OF HONESTY
THE BATTLE OF HONESTY
Elara's POV
My fingers clutched so hard I didn't realize I had cut myself. This was the final stage of the trial and it was the most dangerous of them all.
The Battle of honesty. Whoever failed to come clean of their most darkest sins will be atoned in eternal flames.
I wasn't afraid Sebastian would fail the last test. He already passed the second trial of loyalty. However, something was not right. Lucas was moving faster than he should.
He was cheating openly and no one dared to address it. He shouldn't have passed the loyalty test, he has never been a character of loyalty to either of the women in his life.
They let him cross over after having uncensored sex with his ex-fiancee which he shouldn't have. I hated the fact it had to be my face that was used to lure him. He fucking disgusted me.
“What are they even doing? This is the last trial. How can that cheater still be in the contest?" I voiced out unable to hold back my anger.
I didn't care if my voice would cause trouble for the others. What I wanted was a fair treatment, justice she be done and no favoritism of any kind should be tolerated.
Lucas might have rubbed the palms of most elders and Alphas present. But that won't stop me from protesting against his vile actions.
“Are you just going to stand there and let him keep cheating? I thought you are the gate keeper, you are supposed to eliminate him the moment he faulted," I raised my voice, addressing the gate keeper who stood at the arena with his hands folded.
“Please Luna, you are required to stay put until the trial is over. We have our reasons for leaving him in the game. Once the reach the final stage, you will know our results," he said and that was the only reason why I settled down.
The contest continued and this time they were on the final stage. The Battle of honesty was the last one.
I wondered what type of question they would ask them to give their honest opinion on. From what I could tell, they were ready to dig out each alpha's darkest past to test their sincerity.
My only hope is Sebastian doesn't fall victim to their trap. If he does all hell will lose.
SEBASTIAN POV
The door to the final gate opened and I walked through to the other side. Surprisingly, Lucas made it as well. I knew something was off with this trial.
He was being protected by the deald he made behind.
“Congratulations on making it to the last stage. This level is going to taste your ability to be truthful and your opponent is going to be the moon goddess herself. Once you lie, your soul shall be perished. Do well not to offend the goddess as well. Good luck," the gatekeeper briefly stated before disappearing like he had come.
Light flashed from the side and a pitch white door opened pulling me in.
My environment changed to a common hut with wooden furniture arranged in a simple yet cozy manner.
I stepped outside and heard some children playing around while a woman worked over a fire.
“Hello, you are finally awake. I thought you would remain asleep for the rest of the day," the woman said as she dumped dry woods into the fire.
“Where am I?" I asked still confused by the change of environment. She stared at me with a surprise look on her face.
I have no idea where I was or even remember any encounter with a place like this.
“You are home silly. Did you lose your head when you fell from the cliff?" She smiled but I could see the sardonic look in her eyes.
“I thought I lost you for good, Sebastian. Please don't do things that will endanger your life. I can't bare to lose you again," she said and that was when I realized she was another version of Evie.
Her blue eyes and golden brown hair flowed with the wind. The children playing by the fence also looked like mini versions of us.
What exactly is this trial? I thought it was based on honesty. Why another version of Evie?
I barely escaped the temptation from the second trial. Using the same tactics means they really know Evie is my only weakness.
“Why do you look so confused? Are you not feeling well? Do you want me to call the doctor?" She reached to touch my forehead but I stepped back catching her by surprise.
“I am sorry but I am not your husband," I broke it to her and something flickered in her eyes.
"You must be tired. I will get food ready and feed you myself. Please go back inside and get some rest," she muttered, trying to hide the truth from herself.
“You know I can't stay," I mumbled. I hated my words the moment they came out. But it was the only way to get out of this perfectly arranged world.
“Why do you have to ruin everything? You came back to me and that is all that matters. Why do you have to leave again?" Red coated her eyes as she battled with tears.
My heart twisted from making her car. I don't know her story but what I can get from her behavior is that she had lost someone dear to her. Maybe, the me in this timeline.
“I am sorry for making things difficult for you. But I don't belong here. I have a wife who dearly loves me and she is waiting for me to get back home. You may look like her but you are not her. So I can't stay." I let her know without holding back the truth.
It would be cruel of me to lead her on without letting her know the truth. I wasn't the same man she loved. Even if I had looked like him.
“We could work it out. I could love you. You could love me too. We might be from different worlds but we are still the same people who are deeply in love with each other." She claimed, determined to keep me forever.
“I don't love you nor do you feel the same way with me."
“I could try!" She screamed and the sky trembled under her voice. Her children stopped playing on sensing the danger and ran into the hut.
“So you are willing to fight me." I stepped back prepared to draw my sword.
“If I have to. Even if I end up killing you. I will keep you body with me. You can't leave not when I am on the verge of joining him wherever he ascended to," she cried, breaking down completely in front of me.
“Well, I made a promise to my wife to come back whole. I won't let you detain me against my will." I drew out my sword and she lunged at me with the wave of lightning.
Even in this world Evelyn was powerful. I guess other Evelyn's in different timelines will be the same. But my Evie is the authentic version.
I dodged her attack right before it come strike me. She was swift in her movement but I was stronger and more experienced at combat.
she fell back when I knocked her feet off the ground. While she was trying to stabilize herself from hit the floor, I numb her shoulder and caught her before she hit the ground.
Even if she was not my Evie, I won't let her suffer from pain. She fell unconscious from my little trick and I carried her inside her cozy home and laid her down.
Before leaving, I left a message that should keep her from taking her own life. After all her children needed her the most.
“Congratulations you have past the final test. Please proceed to the gate for the result." The gatekeeper reappeared, unlocking the gate for me to pass through.
This time I was the only person who came out whole. No Lucas in sight.
