Chapter 200: Enemy to the last minute

Chapter 200: Enemy to the last minute
“ Elly!” Tamara cried, stepping forward, tears soaking her face. “ Please…please don't do this. She's my mother.”

Eloise finally turned, her gaze cold as ice. “ And she's my family's murderer.”

Tamara shivered with fear. The rage burning through Eloise— screams different consequences for her. But the one that's deafening was knowing Dayse could be sentenced to death.

Then she'll have no one again. She'll be all alone.

Everyone's gone. Shawn has been arrested. Now her mother.

She fell to her knees. “ But she loves you Elly, she was there for you all through…”

“ Exactly.” Eloise cut her short. “ She was there to mock me, she dares smile and try to be a mother to me when she killed mine!”

Dayse grabbed her legs, her voice shaking. “ I'm sorry, Elly, I'm...”

Eloise jerked her leg away from her hold in disgust, not waiting for her to finish whatever it is she wants to say.

Then she stepped closer, close enough that Dayse flinched.

“ Sorry is what people say when they expect forgiveness.” She replied. “ But you should know by now that I have no intention of doing that.”

Then she turned to Tamara. “ You want mercy for her?”

Tamara nodded desperately.

Eloise stood up, stepped out of the cell, and leaned towards Tamara.

With her voice low and precise, she muttered. “ Then you'll live every day watching how I make her living meaningless.”

She stood straight, locked arms with Antonio, and walked out of the place majestically.

The cries and sobs of Dayse and Tamara sound like a melody that fades into the air as they step out of the station.

Antonio could feel her slight shivers against his arm, her fist was still clenched. He knew anger was still boiling through her, yet she handled the situation elegantly.

He unlocked their arms and slide his arm round her waist, pulling her closer to his body, then mumbled against her ear in a low, calm tone.

“ You handled that amazingly. I'm proud of you, love.”

Something soft washed over her instantly. Her anger crashes into awareness of his body, his grip, his breath.

She felt contained, not comforted.

“ I feel like I should've given her two more slaps. But even that won't feel enough.”

“ I promise you, what I have in store for them, would definitely feel enough.”

She glanced at him with a smile. “ Who would have thought I'd appreciate your ways of doing things?” She grinned.

Antonio was made to reply, but Tamara’s voice stopped them right when they got to their car.

They all turned to see her running towards them.

She stopped in front of them, panting. “ I'm pregnant.”

She dropped without hesitation.

Eloise's eyes fell on her stomach, and Alisha's image flashed across her eyes.

Antonio's brow creased in anger. He felt Eloise flinch a little against his hold, and he understood what Tamara's pregnancy meant to her. He remembered the child she told him they made her cherish.

He tightened his hold against her waist, providing a silent comfort and protection.

“ So?” Eloise glared up, but she saw it; Tamara saw the softness that lasted only a second in her eyes.

“ I need my mother; without her, I won't be able to take care of my baby.” Tamara pleaded. “ She's all I have left, I'm not saying I don't have you, but I'm feeling too guilty to ask for your assistance when I know I've hurt you.”

Eloise scoffed.

“ You've also hurt me, but Elly, can you consider the times we were best friends, the times we love each other so much cause I still do.”

Eloise couldn't contain it longer, she burst into laughter.

“ Love? Cut the bullshit, Tams, we both know you love no one but yourself. I'd advise you to stop wasting your time and go get your mum an attorney. Oh! Opsse, do you even have money to hire one?”

She smirked and turned to leave.

Tamara clenched her fist so hard. She'd never feel this insulted in her life. Her heart was pumping with rage.

“ Do you think you're anything special!?” She yelled. “ You're nothing, you're just a useless…” A sharp pain in her stomach interrupted her outburst.

“ Ha.” She yelped in pain.

Eloise and Antonio paused and looked at her like she was displaying some intentional drama until they saw blood streaming down between her legs.

“ Tamara,” Eloise called getting alarmed.

“ You.” She forced a mumble between the pain. “ You've…killed my baby.”

Eloise stood in shock as she heard Tamara utter that statement.

“ I..” she couldn't finish her words before Tamara fell to the ground into unconsciousness.

Eloise rushed to her side, shaking her body worriedly.

“ Hey, hey! Hey, wake up! Tamara!”

With the help of Antonio and Ghost, they rushed her to the nearby hospital.

( Two hours later)

Eloise stood beside the bed with Antonio who wouldn't stop clenching his jaw. They had bumped into Mason on their way into the hospital, getting led out by the Police.

That was when Eloise told him what had happened to him and how Ghost had saved his life.

But Antonio won't stop getting pissed at Ghost for not telling him earlier, and even though he'd have preferred he shoot him dead on the spot, he understands that Ghost was following his new attribute of doing things the legal way.

But Mason just fell into the list of people he'd ruin.

The doctor walked in to cut the tight tension in the air.

She cleared her throat and turned to Tamara who was now awake and looking pale.

“ How are you feeling now, Miss Tamara? Any pain in your abdomen?”

“ No, but please how's my baby?” She asked desperately, as if it were her only weapon.

The doctor sighed. “ I'm sorry, Miss Tamara, the result shows that you've been under constant stress lately, and your BP was high, which is what triggered the pregnancy. I'm so sorry but you lost the baby.”

“ What?! What do you mean!” She screamed, like she never wanted the baby gone.

The doctor nodded her head and quickly walked away.

“ You killed my baby! You killed my baby!!” She started yelling and throwing stuff at Elosie, whose jaw dropped in disbelief.

Antonio shielded her from the stuff Tamara was throwing. He couldn't swallow the scoff that tore from his throat at how unbelievably she was.

Then, something nudged at him.

He leaned closer to Eloise and mumbled. “ Do you think she's insane?”

“ She is. We should get out of here.”

“ Why? Didn't you say you want to be alive in the most lonely and devastating way?”

Eloise furrowed her brow, looking up at Antonio and wondering what he was up to.

“ Let's give her that.” He said and quickly pulled Eloise away as Tamara hadn't stopped throwing things and screaming.

Antonio reached into his pocket and dialed a contact.

Meanwhile, Tamara felt so glad and energized as she kept screaming. Even though she could still feel some pain in her stomach but it was not consistent.

“ She would pity me, she would feel guilty and even though she doesn't let my mother go, she'd be obligated to take care of me.” She whispered to herself before letting out another scream.

She could see Antonio and Eloise still standing outside and stopping the doctors from coming inside, maybe because of how she was throwing things.

But then, she saw another set of people arriving and talking to Antonio, and watched him gesture for them to come in.

Watching them walk into the room, Tamara felt goosebumps all over her body.

There was something wrong with them. They were not doctors.

Her screams immediately got replaced with fear.

“ Who are you people?” She asked as they grabbed her. “ What do you want? Let me go!”

She yelled.

Eloise walked in, smirking and swaying her butt. She feigned a sad expression.

“ You've been putting yourself under stress, intentionally doing things to hurt yourself, and now, losing the baby has begun to affect you psychologically.”

“ What?! What are you talking about?” She yelled.

“ For example, accusing me of killing your baby when the doctor just told you it's the stress you've been putting yourself under. You're getting delusional, hallucinating…”

“ I'm not.” She shouted, hating how fake she is at the moment, she could see right through Eloise's fake concern. “ Stop pretending you ain't jealous about me getting pregnant.”

“ You mean about the baby I just found out today?” Eloise swallowed the laughter. “ That's what I was talking about. Delusional. But don't worry, we'll take care of you, they'll help you get better.”

“ What do you mean?” Tamara asked, her chest pounding erratically.

“ They're psychologist. They'll take you to the psychiatrist and help you get better.”

“ You're insane! You're the mad one, not me!” She yelled, screamed, wriggled, and struggled, but they still dragged her out of the hospital.

“ Don't worry, that's the perfect place you belong,” Eloise shouted for her to hear as she watched them drag her away.

Then she burst into laughter. Feeling the most satisfied.
