Chapter 196: Real obsession

Chapter 196: Real obsession
“ There's no food in the house.” Tamara slammed the fridge’s door shut. Anger and frustration laced in her voice.

Her stomach grumbled again. Her hormones were running very high as she kept feeling hungry every twenty minutes after eating.

She turned to her mother who acted like she didn't just hear what she said.

They haven't spoken to each other since the outburst in the car.

“ Mum.” She called in frustration. “ There's absolutely nothing to eat in this house.”

“That's because there's no food.”

“ Then go and get, I'm hungry and upset.” She vented her frustration and mood swings.

Dayse scoffed. “ Remember, I stopped getting desperate for love with men, so there's no money or food.”

“ What?!” Her shoulder slumped in disbelief, not knowing if she meant what she said or if she was still upset about their fight.

But whichever way it is, she's not ready to apologize cause they both hurt each other.

“ Seriously, Mum? Can you stop being petty?”

“ Petty? You called me desperate, there's nothing you didn't say to me—your mother.”

“ There was nothing you didn't say to me also, you even went ahead to compare me to that bitch I hate with my gut.”

“ That was because you asked for it.”

“ I didn't, I didn't ask for any of this, I didn't ask for this foolish baby in my stomach that I can't wait to get rid of.”

“ What?!” Dayse jumped to her feet. “ You want to do what?”

“ Get rid of it.”

“ Are you out of your mind? Do you know the implications that comes with abortion? Why would you even want to kill an innocent baby?”

“ Can you take care of it? Do we have money?” She yelled. “ Look at us, we have nothing, our company has gone bankrupt, Mason has reached rock bottom, and we can even barely feed ourselves.” Tamara lamented, suddenly feeling emotional. “ Nothing is working for us.”

As if the hunger had just made her realize, that they're losing everything, that there's nothing left again.

“ Of course, we're not losing everything, we can't kill an innocent child, it's a crime if …”

“ It's none of anyone's business what I decided to do with this thing.” She pointed at her stomach.

“ If you're worried about how we'll take care of it then I can assure you that we will. And moreover, there's the father, Mason has no choice but to take on the responsibility.”

Tamara burst into tears, feeling more frustrated. “ I'm not even sure he's the father.”

She broke down.

Dayse paused. Her brow wrinkled as she looked at Tamara breaking down.

“ What do you mean you're not sure Mason is the father?” She asked, scoffed, and chuckled. “ I've never seen you with any other man apart from him.”

“ Well, you've never seen cause you don't pay attention.”

Dayse swallowed, not okay with the response she was giving, but she needed to know what Tamara meant by all she was saying.

“ So tell me, who else have you been screwing?” She asked, but all she got as response was more tears from Tamara. “ Can you just speak up and stop crying like a baby? Who else have you been screwing like a senseless girl?”

She yelled, her patience had run thin and Tamara's cries won't just stop getting on her nerves.

But still, Tamara said nothing.

“ Holy fuck!” Dayse cussed. “ I thought you had some sense in you. Is this some kind of nightstand that you did? Now you don't know the father? Are you some whore or what?”

“ Don't call me a whore!” Tamara yelled back.

“ Then what are you? You don't even know the father!”

“ It's Shawn!” She dropped before she could refrain herself.

The air stilled instantly.

Dayse blinked once. Twice.

“ What did you just say?”

Tamara sobbed, she bit her lower lip, scolding herself inwardly, but she knew she couldn't take back the words.

“ The other man I've been screwing, is Shawn.” She confessed.

Dayse's shoulder dropped. She slumped onto the sofa.

Her head spun brutally.

Her mouth parted but all that came out was nothing but air.

Her head fought to understand what Tamara had just said.

“ Is this some kind of joke?” She mumbled, then turned to face her. “ You really would not do that, would you?”

She asked, but the more she looked at her guilty facial expression, the more she believed she was telling the truth.

She let out an absurd scoff. “ You didn't see anyone else to sleep with, you have to go for Shawn, despite knowing how I feel about him?”

“ Please, Mum, we both know you don't love him, you only want his money. And I did it because he promised me he'll make Antonio marry me and I can finally get back at Eloise.”

“ Do you.. fucking... hear.. yourself?” Dayse asked, her tone low in pain and anger. Even though Shawn isn't the best man, she couldn't help but fall for him and Tamara knows that.“ Because of Eloise? You would hurt my own feelings if it makes you succeed in hurting her?”

An ugly realization dawned on her. That Tamara’s obsession has no line that can't be crossed.

Dayse blinked her eyes as she fell back into the sofa. Different feelings and emotions were washing over her.

Slowly, she stood up and walked out. One statement ringing continuously in her mind. That Tamara would do anything to get back at Eloise.

That she wouldn't hesitate to hurt her own mother, if it would get her what she wants with Eloise.

Dayse's fingers curled, tears brimmed in her eyes as she closed her room door behind her. Everything Tamara has done began flashing across her eyes.

She could have stopped pursuing Eloise after Eloise divorced Mason.

How she fell out of love with Mason.

How hell bent she was at making Eloise become her best friend again.

Then it got clearer. That maybe, the person Tamara wants was never Mason.

Her real obsession was Eloise all along.

Dayse slumped onto the floor and burst into tears. She's been blind to what she was supposed to see because of her own greed.

If her daughter was ready to hurt her just to get her best friend, then it's done for her.

“ Is this Karma? She wasn't even thinking of me when she did all that? Did Tamara even love me or ever want something good for me? Was her obsession karma all along? Is this Eloise's mother punishing me?”

She cried profusely, pulling her knees to her chest, realizing she was losing her daughter.

Or no, she has lost her daughter.
