Chapter 270
Chapter 270
Ivanna was stunned when she heard her sister’s words.
“Are you jealous?” she asked with a teasing smile on her face.
“Oh no. Brother, look, your fiancée is jealous of me having another woman but not you,” Ivanan said, making Nick speechless. Isley glared at her.
“What nonsense are you talking? Also, is that the way to speak to your younger sister?” Mr Alessandro asked coldly as he walked in.
The more she listened to everything going on, the more confused Nadia became. She felt that there was something off that everyone was trying to hide from her, but she didn’t know what it was. She was so sure that if she were to ask, she might even be thrown out, which she didn’t want to.
Also, she liked Ivanna, though she was jealous of her; she couldn’t deny that the latter really had brains. She understood why even someone like Floyd would fall in love with her. She sighed, thinking that she was just a miserable and unlucky one. However, when she recalled what Ivanna had said about her family, the more terrified she became. She wondered if she weren’t switched at birth, would she have been living that kind of life? Suffering, working as a slave, or would she have become a bad person doing bad things just to get things?
She didn’t want to think about it, but understood that that was the cold reality. If her father, Mr Martinez, knew the truth, he might send her back. Nonetheless, she was confused as from everyone’s reaction, that they knew she wasn’t a Martinez but never revealed it. She wondered why, but with the man who just walked in, she couldn’t bring herself to even open her mouth to utter a word, as the aura around the man made her so afraid.
Mr Alessandro didn’t know what was happening, but when she saw Nadia, he raised his eyebrow before looking at Citrine.
“The daughter you switched?” he asked coldly, making Citrine tremble while Nadia was stunned and glanced at her mother.
“You switched me? Why?” she asked, not knowing even why she got the courage to speak.
“Did you have to speak?” Mr Barnes asked his friend helplessly as he had now ruined everything that they had been trying to hold on to.
“How was I to know that she isn’t deaf?” Mr Alessandro asked arrogantly as he walked towards an empty chair. Ivanna sympathized with Nadia but didn’t say anything, understanding too well that her mother needed to come clean since things had gotten there.
Nadia glanced at the man, who was trembling, then at her mother, whose head was lowered.
“Why did you switch me with your baby? Or is she dead and you needed a child to show the Martinez?” she asked, making everyone dumbfounded as they wanted to look inside her head and know what she was really thinking.
Nadia felt that if she was correct, then she didn’t really didn’t need to worry about her identity being exposed. After all, there will not be a young lady going back to the Martinez family. Also, since no one had revealed her identity, though they knew that meant that they won’t be revealing it. She felt that she might even get a chance to get close to her brother and make up for everything she had done in the past.
“What nonsense are you speaking? Don’t curse my sisters!” Cody said angrily as he couldn’t believe the latter had the nerve to say such things about his sister. Who did she think she was?
“So she is alive,” Nadia mumbled, but both Isley and Ivanna, who were close to her, heard her words clearly. Isley snorted, thinking that the young lady was helpless. Despite her sister trying to change her, her cold and cruel heart couldn’t change, no matter what. Ivanna just stared at Nadia, wondering what she was really thinking for her to say all that.
“Mom, can you please tell me the reason. I deserve to know, right?” Nadia asked, staring at Citrine, who was conflicted and in panic. Among everyone present, she only feared Mr Alessandro cause of his identity and his plans to make everything difficult for her. Even if someone claimed that he didn’t know what he was doing he spoke, she refused to believe it.
“You can’t force me to speak if I don’t want to,” Citrine said coldly, stunning Nadia as she never thought that her mother would be so cold to her cause of a question.
Isley snorted when she heard those words and saw how she behaved.
“I will tell you if she doesn’t want to,” Isley said, making Citrine freeze and stare at Isley, not believing that she would do that.
“Why stare at me like that? I hate you, and you should know that. I can do everything in my power to make you everyone’s laughingstock and embarrassed,” Isley said coldly as she looked at the woman who was hurt by her words.
She had only made one mistake, swapping the kids, but cause of it, everyone hated her no matter what she did to get their forgiveness. The people who pained her most were her daughters, who didn’t want to see her or even call her mother. For all they cared, she could die or go to hell. Her lips trembled and her eyes filled with tears as she stared at the latter.
Nadia frowned when she heard Isley’s words. She had wanted to retort, defend her mother, but when she recalled the dagger the latter had been playing with on her face, she hurriedly shut her mouth. However, she was curious why the latter seemed to hate her mother to the core.
She glanced at her only to see her eyes filled with coldness and hatred. She turned to look at her mother only to be stunned by her actions. She was filled with questions. She rarely saw her mother cry, even when she was called names by her father or grandparents. Even when she said something awful to her when she wanted to get close to her.
Why would her mother cry at Isley’s words? She turned to look at Isley, wanting to know what she wanted to say, as she had a feeling that whatever she would hear would be earth-shaking.
“Isley…” Marcello called her, his voice calling a hint of warning, but Isley just glared at him in return. She wasn’t afraid of the latter as she knew that her brother was so softhearted towards them. Also, she had lived in the mafia, if she were to cower cause of his warning, who knew what her father would later say or punish her? To her, it wasn’t worth being punished cause of helping the woman keep her mouth shut.
“The daughter she gave birth to wasn’t your father’s. She was afraid that the Martinez would discover the truth and treat her the same way they treated Marcello. She has also been helping you keep your secret. Every time you went to the hospital, she would make sure that nothing was leaked out,” Isley said, making Marcello look at her coldly while Nadia looked at her mother in disbelief.
“Why do you keep cheating on Dad?” She asked, finding it hard to believe, but their expressions proved to her that everything that Isley had said was the truth. The woman had really cheated on her father once more and gave birth to a bastard.
“Shut up!” Phil said angrily, making Nadia look at him in disbelief as she wondered why he was shouting at her, and she had just asked a question. Why didn’t he yell at Isley when she revealed their mother’s dirty past?
“She was plotted against. Aunt had drugged her and then sent her to a room. They had found some men to sleep with mother so that when it was discovered, they forced mom to divorce,” Tyson said in a low tone as it wasn’t something being said, but since it had reached this point, there was no need to hide it.
“She ran away from the room when she discovered what was happening, but as she ran, she was being followed and got into the nearest room. However, the drugs had really taken effect,” Clave added.
Nadia was stunned and glanced at her mother. She felt sorry for her. Though she never expected her aunt and grandparents to be so ruthless. As someone close to them, she understood that if her aunt did something, she must have gotten her father’s and grandparents' permission. Maybe that was even their plan, and they only used her aunt. She wondered what happened next.
“Didn’t they ever suspect that I wasn’t their kid? After all, if they counted from when you gave birth, they would have known that I was conceived on that day,” she asked.
“We took care of everything,” Abby said, stunning Nadia as she started understanding something.
She recalled her father saying that Abby never gave birth on that day, as she had been waiting for her mother to give birth. So how come Abby had a daughter who was born the same day as her? That time, she didn’t believe it and told her father that maybe he was confused and had forgotten something.
“Ivanna is your real daughter, right?” she asked, her words seeming like a thunderbolt in the room.
