The first to launch an attack was, of course, Li Wei. He raised his hand, aiming the silver SN97 police pistol at Zhang Zongming. His finger squeezed the trigger, and gunshots echoed.
If there was one ability Li Wei was most confident in at the moment, it was undoubtedly his proficiency in using firearms. This was the pride of his previous life as an elite soldier.
As Li Wei pulled the trigger, firing bullets, Zhang Zongming on the opposite side raised his long spear and charged.
Then, a very unscientific event occurred.
Zhang Zongming's long spear, under a series of precise movements, actually accurately deflected three bullets fired by Li Wei! Simultaneously, during his charge, his body exhibited an extremely subtle and irregular tremor, allowing him to evade two more bullets from Li Wei.
Li Wei fired a magazine of bullets, but due to Zhang Zongming's evasive maneuvers, only two managed to hit the target.
However, hitting didn't necessarily mean causing harm. Li Wei could clearly see that after the bullets pierced through Zhang Zongming's clothes, only half of the bullet heads embedded into his skin, causing a slight oozing of blood. This injury was at most slightly more severe than a scratch, not even qualifying as a light injury.
These scenes were vividly visible to the Sharingan, and Li Wei found it incredibly unbelievable. Was this something humans could achieve? How could bullets, moving at such high speeds, be deflected by the spearhead, and how could they be dodged? How could the kinetic energy of bullets, made of metal, not even pierce the skin?
While the SN97 police pistol didn't boast significant power and only fired regular bullets, it was still a gun! The bullets were made of metal!
This exceeded Li Wei's imagination; it was simply too exaggerated.
Regardless of his astonishment, in just that moment, Zhang Zongming had already reached Li Wei with his long spear.
The saying went, "The longer the weapon, the more powerful it is." Facing the threat of the long spear, Li Wei felt its danger even from a distance.
He didn't dare to directly block the spear's assault with the short knife in his hand. Instead, relying on the unparalleled penetrating ability of the Sharingan, he seized the opportunity to dodge.
Zhang Zongming's reaction was quick. Just as Li Wei evaded his thrust, Zhang Zongming's wrist slightly shook.
The powerful penetrating ability of the Sharingan caught this detail, and Li Wei immediately sensed the danger. He quickly retreated while simultaneously slashing his knife sideways.
"Clang!" Li Wei's wrist shook. His short knife collided with the horizontally swept spear shaft.
Fortunately, he noticed it in time, and fortunately, his movements were fast enough. Otherwise, with the force carried by the horizontally swept spear, hitting the waist would have been enough to cause a severe injury.
In the first round of their exchange, neither gained substantial results, but Li Wei already felt immense pressure.
"Zhang Zongming is quite skilled," said Judith from a nearby window. "The sign of completing Extreme Training is a sharp reduction in the threat of ordinary weapon bullets to the human body. Judging by his body's protection, he is quite outstanding at the Extreme level. Even if Li Wei wants to achieve something with the broken gun in his hand, he would need a batch of energy bullets. Moreover, they can't be specialized bullets like Light Moment Engraving Bullets; they need to have high lethality."
Judith was praising Zhang Zongming.
"He's pretty good at the Extreme level in terms of raw strength," agreed Eileen. "People who have just completed Extreme Training, even if bullets can't cause serious harm, they can't reach his level of deflecting and evading bullets. Moreover, the ability to break through bullets with a long spear, avoid bullets through subtle body tremors during a charge—these abilities and techniques are exclusive to the Extreme level, and he has mastered them perfectly."
"Why does someone like Zhang Zongming, who is considered decent at the Extreme level, hesitate to go and hunt down lower-level vampires?" Judith scoffed.
"Hmph," this was where Eileen looked down on Zhang Zongming the most. "Afraid of death, afraid of injury, right? We hunters would risk everything, even our lives, in battles. He, on the other hand, is only willing to take action when he has a sixty or seventy percent certainty. He has a cautious personality, which is not a bad thing, but he's overdoing it. He won't take any risks. He only dares to challenge someone like Li Wei because he feels sure of victory."
"Heh heh," Judith didn't continue her evaluation.
In fact, they weren't the only ones watching. This battle in the 17th District had caused quite a stir. One was the self-proclaimed "number one expert in the 17th District," and the other had completed a reward mission that had been hanging for six months without anyone daring to take it, successfully killing an official vampire. The attraction of the battle between these two figures to hunters who admired strength was considerable.
As long as there was a hunter with free time during this period, most of them probably came to join the fun nearby.
However, Judith was brought over by Eileen alone. As a high-level expert who had delved four levels into the Nexus Chain, just one step away from unlocking Elements, she couldn't be bothered to watch two rookies fight.
Well, Eileen was the same.
However, this matter was related to the issue of training quotas at headquarters, and she had to come and take a look.
The girl Yasha, who came along, asked with a slightly worried frown, "So... from the looks of it, is Li Wei going to lose?"
"He has no hope," Judith shook her head and said, "The gap in strength and physique is too great, and even in terms of skill, Li Wei can't compare to Zhang Zongming. I can't see any hope for him to win. Really, with his current performance, even if he uses the gun in his hand to the fullest, he won't be able to win. I don't know what kind of luck he had to kill a vampire, but it cost me five amethyst crystals."
"Hehe." Eileen chuckled mockingly from the side. "Judith, do you want to bet again?"
"Bet we shall!" Judith gritted her teeth and said, "I refuse to believe I'll lose this time!"
"Then you can wait to lose." Eileen said, "Did you notice Li Wei's eyes?"
"Huh?" Hearing Eileen's words, Judith carefully observed and quickly noticed something unusual.
It was a bright red left eye!
Judith's expression became serious. "What is this?! Supernatural talent?"
Eileen revealed a mysterious smile without answering.
Judith pressed for an answer, "So, wasn't Li Wei determined to have no evolutionary potential a few years ago? What kind of supernatural talent is this eye?"
Eileen said, "Who do I ask if not you?"
"I knew it! How could you favor this kid?" Judith suddenly realized. "You must have known a long time ago! The guys at the Superpower Academy are really useless. They let such a good seed slip through their fingers?"
"Hehe, they're not useless. Where else would I have had the opportunity to pick up the scraps?" Eileen looked very proud as she said, "A person with a supernatural talent has no problem breaking through the genetic lock. I can finally get out of this broken place after being exiled for so many years."
"Congratulations then," Judith sincerely congratulated her good friend. "After being exiled to this barren land for so many years, you finally have the opportunity to leave."
While the two were chatting, the battle between Li Wei and Zhang Zongming continued.
