Chapter 433: Thought They Got a Good Deal
"Ms. King, you're too kind. It's my pleasure to go shopping with Daniel."
Emily seemed unaffected and could still answer with a smile.
Pretending!
Keep pretending!
Zoey didn't believe she really didn't care.
"Even so, you're still a girl after all. Going out alone with Daniel, especially since Daniel and I are about to get engaged, isn't good for your reputation. So from now on, I won't trouble you with such things."
She acted as if she had Emily's best interests at heart, but her words were full of provocation. "Oh, speaking of the engagement, I almost forgot - I haven't sent you the engagement invitation yet. Sorry, I've just been so busy, what with choosing the dress and the engagement ring. You won't mind this little oversight, will you?"
Zoey stared straight at Emily.
It seemed that if she said she minded, it would make her look inferior to Zoey.
This would be the perfect chance to show Daniel who could display grace under pressure and was more suitable for him.
Emily naturally knew what Zoey was thinking, and thought about what was about to happen.
Whatever, let Zoey enjoy herself one last time.
"Alright, since Ms. King has personally invited me to the engagement party, I'll naturally attend."
Emily replied with a smile.
Zoey frowned.
She tried to see even a trace of sadness or jealousy on Emily's face.
How could there be none?
Zoey didn't believe that Emily wouldn't be upset hearing this news.
She must be putting on a brave front.
She didn't know Emily could act so well.
Maybe that's why even a smart man like Daniel had fallen for her tricks.
Zoey opened her mouth, trying to say something more, but Daniel interrupted her.
"Are you done? I'm tired, I'm going back."
Zoey's happy expression froze.
She knew Daniel was protecting Emily, deliberately saying this.
He wasn't tired after shopping with Emily for so long, but now that she had just arrived, he was tired.
However, in front of Emily, he naturally wouldn't say it out loud.
"Daniel, since you're tired, let me go back with you."
This time Zoey didn't try to take Daniel's arm again, afraid of being rejected and giving Emily something to laugh about, but she naturally moved closer to him.
Fortunately, this time Daniel didn't avoid her.
Emily cooperatively let sadness flash in her eyes.
This time Zoey saw it.
She felt very pleased.
Then she heard Emily say with downcast eyes, "In that case, I won't disturb you two."
With that, she was about to leave.
Even though he knew Emily was acting, Daniel still felt a bit heartbroken seeing this.
So he immediately spoke in a deep voice, "No need. You helped me today. We're going the same way, let's go together."
Zoey said sweetly, "Daniel, I still want to discuss the engagement details with you privately. I drove here too, so my driver can take Ms. Johnson. It's no problem."
Daniel didn't want to slight Emily at all and was about to refuse.
Emily didn't know why, but she just knew what Daniel was thinking. She spoke first, "Then I'll have to trouble Ms. King's driver."
The main thing was that with the engagement coming up, if Zoey hadn't come looking, not knowing about her shopping with Daniel today would be one thing, but now that she knew, she should still show some restraint. After all, they were at the final act of this play, and no matter what, it had to be performed smoothly to the end!
"No trouble at all, it's just a word."
Seeing Emily being sensible, Zoey's smile became a bit more genuine.
Then Emily and Daniel separated into two cars.
And Zoey got into Daniel's car.
York, who was driving, saw Zoey get in the car with Daniel but didn't see Emily, and grumbled internally.
However, he didn't say anything extra.
After the car drove out smoothly, Zoey naturally moved closer to Daniel.
"Don't get close, I can't stand the smell on you."
Daniel immediately spoke, his voice cold and distant.
Zoey's movement paused, and grievance crept into her heart.
"Daniel, I'm about to become your fiancée. Do you really need to guard against me like a thief? Also, won't you explain why you were shopping with Emily today when tomorrow is our engagement party? Aren't you afraid someone will take photos and post them online, affecting the alliance between our families?"
Zoey accused.
But afraid Daniel still wouldn't care, she added moral pressure.
Daniel turned his head slightly. Though looking at Zoey, his gaze carried a condescending contempt.
"With our families' status in Silverlight City, as long as you and I don't give the word, who would dare publish those photos?"
Daniel himself wouldn't release the photos.
If the photos came out, it would naturally be the King family's doing.
Actually, Zoey wouldn't release them at this time either.
Even if she wanted to deal with Emily, it would be after the engagement, finding an opportunity to completely ruin Emily's reputation.
"Daniel, what about buying clothes? Shouldn't I, your fiancée, accompany you? Why did you ask Emily? A woman who knows the other person has a fiancée but still throws herself at him - do you really think such a woman is a good woman? She's just after your status and position. Only I truly like you."
Zoey tried to portray Emily as a scheming woman, while she herself had true love for him.
Daniel's cold gaze carried a hint of mockery. "Even if we get engaged, it's just mutual benefit. I don't need a woman telling me what to do. Or are you saying I'm blind?"
"No, no, that's not what I meant. It's just, Daniel, we grew up together, we're well-matched, and I truly like you. Why can't you see me? Since we're getting engaged, could you please pay more attention to me? Just try it - maybe you'll discover that you really like me."
Meeting Daniel's gaze, Zoey inexplicably felt weak and spoke carefully.
Daniel closed his eyes.
He ignored Zoey.
Zoey looked at his high nose bridge, that perfect profile, loving him like this, yet hating how he ignored her.
She pressed her lips and held back.
But in the end, she couldn't help but speak, "Daniel, when choosing the engagement ring, why did you have Nathaniel come? I don't believe you really didn't have that little bit of time? Or do you have other ideas? You'll come to the engagement tomorrow, right?"
A terrifying thought popped into her mind.
But because the thought came and went so quickly, disappearing in a flash, she couldn't quite grasp it.
Daniel's slightly narrowed eyes opened, a dark gleam flashing through them.
He looked at Zoey indifferently, "Don't worry about that. An alliance isn't child's play. I know what I'm doing. I'll naturally attend on time tomorrow."
Getting her answer, Zoey breathed a sigh of relief.
Seeing Daniel close his eyes and fall silent again.
She paused, and ultimately said nothing more.
Instead, she lowered her head and sent a message.
After about half an hour, the car stopped at Daniel's front door.
The car Emily was in also arrived at about the same time.
Emily naturally prepared to go inside. This time she didn't take the initiative to greet the two of them, knowing Zoey didn't like it.
"Ms. Johnson!"
She didn't expect Zoey to actually call out to Emily first.
