CHAPTER 37
CHAPTER 37
As they entered the company, they immediately caught the attention of everyone they passed. Michael was well aware that all eyes were on him. Everyone he saw was whispering while looking at him.
But he did expect this kind of gestures from them.
He, who will pretend to be Rik Sandoval, Michael's twin, is himself. But to others, they will just think that he is Michael's twin, and he is here now to take what is rightfully his, according to his twin's will.
At first, this was not his original plan. What he wanted to do was to put Brent himself in a high position so that he could freely enter the company he owned. But it occurred to him that he would not have a hard time using the borrowed face he used on the day of the explosion in the company, especially since when D is far from him, the power of his magic sometimes disappears.
So it's a good thing he thought of pretending to be someone else.
"Is that S-Sir M-Michael?" a woman stuttered, asking the person next to her. The horror on her face was obvious.
"Are you stupid? Sir Michael is dead, so how can that be him? Didn't you even think that he might be his twin? The two look exactly alike, but look at how that one dresses. He's even better than a member of the M.I.B because he's all black," the person she was talking to replied. "But he's also handsome, isn't he? Just like Sir Michael."
"Yeah. But that shouldn't be our concerns, should it? We should focus on finding a new job because the new management might just fire us. Sir Jam seems to be in a bad mood with us." She sighed deeply.
In truth, the two were only speaking softly, but because D had blessed him with sharp hearing, he no longer had a hard time knowing what those around him were talking about.
He turned to look at the two talking. He was familiar with the two because he had met them several times in that very company.
Because of that look at the two women, they immediately lowered their gaze, so he couldn't even smile at them.
He just continued walking and focused his gaze on Brent's back. D, who had become his butler, was behind him.
When they entered the elevator for the bosses, Brent spoke.
"You overheard those two, right, Michael?"
He nodded and let out a long sigh. D, who was next to them, was silent, and as he was always used to, he had no reaction at all to what he and his friend were talking about.
"Yes. You're right. Jam is firing workers. But what is his reason? This is not what we talked about. This is not what we always say that small employees should be protected. He has changed a lot in a just a small amount of time."
"Has he really changed, Michael, or is he just really good at hiding what's in his heart and mind? Think about it, Michael," Brent replied to him.
"D?" he prodded the demon next to him. "What do you think?"
"I need to touch him first, before I learned what’s the reason behind his attitude. If it's true that an angel is behind him, I think you need to find the real culprit of your death. If ever someone like me is behind him, be careful."
"I have you, D. I know that you’ll help me what ever will happen.”
"As I said before, I will try my best just to make you safe. Even if we have to face a higher rank, I will defend you. I am the only one who has the right to your soul, mortal, and no one else."
"Can't you let him go?" Brent interrupted them. He waited for D's answer. He didn't expect a positive answer, especially since he had said his feelings several times as a demon, and him as his victim.
"We have an agreement. Michael agreed to everything I said to him. He wanted to live, so I brought him back to life. I gave him the chance to take revenge."
"In exchange of his soul? Ha!" Brent clapped sarcastically as if he was just talking to an ordinary person. "I a little it disappointed. I don’t know. Or maybe I just really hoped that Michael was important to you somehow, especially since you were doing what he should have been doing. But I was wrong. Why would I forget that you are an envoy of darkness. You are a dem—" He grabbed Brent's hand and squeezed it slightly to stop his friend from saying everything he was saying.
It was a good thing he listened to him. Maybe, an angel and demon inside of the same room is too much. The two might clash at any time.
"Please, stop this kind of topic. Can you please forget what you are first? Please? I need to uncover what’s behind my death. For my peace of mind."
"How can you say that you will be at peace in hell, Michael? You will suffer pain from people like him, so what peace are you talking about? Don’t make me laugh."
When the elevator door opened, Brent went out first. He knew his friend's point. He knew he was just worried about him. But what could he do? He was already in too deep. He had already signed a contract with the demon that he would be his ticket to hell.
And all he has to do now is find out the truth so that even if the demons in hell, where they reside, make it difficult for him, it will be okay with him. As long as he can take revenge.
