Chapter 162
Chapter 162
Seraphine's POV
"Don't you dare hurt my sister!"
Brielle suddenly became agitated, rushing in front of Orion and glaring at him viciously. "You destroyed my family! You destroyed my mother! And now you want to hurt my sister too?"
"I won't let you succeed! Even if it costs me my life, I'll make you pay!"
Not just me—even Orion looked at Brielle in shock.
The way he stared at her was like he was looking at an idiot.
"Have you lost your mind? This woman used to be your mortal enemy, and now you're protecting her?" He pointed at me, his face full of disbelief.
But Brielle just laughed coldly. "So what? You were the ones who manipulated our relationship and turned me against my sister in the first place!"
She glanced at me, her gaze filled with regret. "I know now—Seraphine was always good to me. We're not blood-related, but she was kind and patient with me since we were kids. I just never recognized how good she was. I kept bullying her, targeting her, even getting between her and Mitchell to ruin their relationship!"
Brielle's eyes reddened, her voice breaking. "Now I know I was wrong. I'll never hurt my sister again. If you hadn't blinded me, Seraphine and I would've been close long ago!"
Her slender body stood in front of me, unafraid even when facing those intimidating bodyguards.
Orion's face darkened completely. He stared at her coldly. "Your mother risked everything to elevate you, to help you gain control of the company and all the Whitaker family assets. And this is how you repay her—by protecting her enemy? She wasted her life raising you."
Brielle sneered. "Father was the one who raised me! Mother only wanted to seize the assets for you. Don't think I don't know! Letting me control the company was all a lie! If you didn't prop me up, you'd have to stay hidden like a rat, too afraid to come out!"
"You—!" Orion completely lost his temper.
He grabbed Brielle by the hair and slapped her twice across the face.
Brielle's face swelled instantly, and blood trickled from her split lip.
I hadn't expected Orion to hit her so hard. I immediately shouted at him, "Why are you hitting her? She's Amara's daughter!"
"So what?" Orion glared at me. "She's betrayed us now! If she wants to protect you, let her see what that costs!"
He turned back and grabbed Brielle's face in warning. "If you stand with me now and help me deal with Seraphine, you can still share in the wealth. Choose!"
Brielle suddenly laughed—a wild, unhinged sound.
Even the bodyguards were startled by her sudden laughter.
Orion frowned. "What are you laughing at?"
Brielle's eyes filled with hatred. "I don't have a mother anymore. Amara means nothing to me. And you'll never get what you want. Give it up!"
"Since you refuse to cooperate, don't blame me for not showing you any consideration for your mother's sake." Orion waved his hand dismissively. "Tie them both up and take them away!"
I tried to stop him urgently. "Orion, I'm the only one you want to deal with. Let Brielle go!"
"Impossible." Orion's face was full of impatience. "She's so disobedient, betraying us at the critical moment. Don't expect me to forgive her! Today, both of you are coming with me."
Seeing Brielle about to be dragged away, I tried to negotiate calmly. "Let Brielle go. She can find Octavius and tell him to save me, can't she? Otherwise, Octavius won't believe you so easily."
Hearing this, Orion hesitated.
"Don't listen to her!"
A voice suddenly rang out, tinged with disdain.
I turned to see Quinlan walking in on high heels, her hips swaying, her eyes gleaming with satisfaction.
I was stunned. "What are you doing here?"
"What do you think?" Quinlan smiled smugly, walking toward me step by step. "Why do you think I'm here?"
I looked at Orion behind her. "When did you two team up?"
Quinlan clapped her hands. "Not bad. You're pretty smart. Do you understand the situation now? All of us are coming after you, Seraphine. Are you scared?"
I snorted coldly, my face expressionless. "Scared of you? Quinlan, do you really think that's possible?"
Quinlan's smile faded. "Seraphine, you've been fighting me for Octavius this whole time. Even when he wanted revenge, he couldn't let you go. Now I've finally caught you. I won't let you go again."
She walked right up to me and slapped me across the face.
The blow sent my head spinning to the side. My left cheek went numb with pain, and my vision darkened.
Quinlan crossed her arms, her eyes full of contempt. "Now you'll never make him love you again! Once Octavius hands over the money to Orion to save you, that'll be the end of you."
"What do you mean?" My heart tightened as I looked at Orion.
Orion clasped his hands behind his back, smiling even more broadly. "Ms. Powell hates you. She doesn't want you alive anymore. According to our agreement, once Octavius hands over the money, I'll help Quinlan kill you."
Their eyes as they looked at me were full of loathing.
"A person like you living in this world is a disaster anyway. Better off dead!" Orion spoke the cruelest words as if they meant nothing.
Brielle's face changed. "You can't do this!"
"Not hitting you, are we?" Quinlan turned and slapped her across the face. "I want to have Octavius. That means Seraphine can't be allowed to live! If you dare say anything I don't want to hear again, I'll kill you too!"
Brielle looked like she wanted to speak again, but I quickly stopped her. "That's enough, Brielle. Don't say anything more to these people for my sake."
I looked at Orion. "Let Brielle go. I'll cooperate with you. I'll call Octavius directly and tell him to hand over the money. Surely you can let Brielle go then?"
Orion raised an eyebrow, looking genuinely surprised.
He laughed coldly. "You're pretty good to Brielle, huh? You two just made up, and she's already willing to help you like this. And you're willing to save her."
I sneered. "I just don't want to drag Brielle into this. Let her go, and I'll cooperate with anything you want."
Seeing I was serious, Orion and Quinlan exchanged glances.
"Fine. We'll let her go."
"What about you?" A bodyguard pushed Brielle in front of me.
I grabbed her hand. "Go live your own life. Whether it's me or anything happening here, you don't need to worry about it. None of this has anything to do with you."
"But—"
Brielle tried to speak again, but I cut her off.
"That's enough. Just do what I said. The most important thing is for you to get married well. Don't worry about anything else."
