Chapter 360 Partnering to Deceive

Chapter 360 Partnering to Deceive

A few days later, news came from the hospital - Daniela was a match.

This was good news for Sunny.

But Daniela was in a bind.

Right now, she was basically "unemployed" at home, using the excuse of keeping Martha company while actually just eating and lazing around. But next, she'd have to stay at the hospital for several days.

She needed to keep this from Martha.

That evening, after thinking it over, Daniela took the initiative to call Oliver.

"Hello, Daniela, what's up?"

When Oliver received Daniela's call, he was about to go into the bathroom to shower. His shirt was already off, and he stood shirtless at the bathroom door.

"The match was successful."

Daniela told Oliver the news.

Silence on the phone.

For a moment, Oliver didn't know whether to be happy for Daniela or worried about her.

"Is there anything I can do for you?" he asked.

"I don't know how to explain to my mom why I won't be around for the next few days, so I'm hoping you can help me tell a lie together."

Daniela didn't like beating around the bush when speaking or doing things, so she got straight to the point with Oliver.

"Okay. I'll go talk to Martha tomorrow."

Oliver didn't hesitate - he agreed immediately.

The phone fell silent again. Daniela wanted to say something more, but the words got stuck in her throat and wouldn't come out.

Oliver's heavy breathing came through the phone, carrying a uniquely masculine hormone-laden quality that made her heartbeat speed up involuntarily.

"Daniela, I know you won't change this decision, so if you've made up your mind, just move forward without looking back. No matter what happens, I'll be by your side. If you need any help, you can tell me anytime. Today, I'm really happy that you called me."

The atmosphere became somewhat intimate at this point.

Daniela's heart raced even faster, becoming more chaotic.

"Thank you. It's late, get some rest."

After saying this, she hurriedly hung up the phone.

Her bedroom faced the second-floor balcony. With things on her mind, she couldn't sleep, so she got up alone and went to the balcony.

But she unexpectedly ran into Quinley, who was also there.

"Mrs. Jennings, you're here too."

Daniela felt a bit awkward.

Quinley was leaning back in a lounge chair, smiling at Daniela. "Can't sleep either?"

Daniela awkwardly scratched her hair.

"Sit."

Quinley pointed to a nearby lounge chair, gesturing to Daniela.

She sat down as told, but seemed very nervous.

"Something on your mind?"

Quinley asked again.

Daniela quickly waved her hands. "No... no."

Her face turned completely red with embarrassment, and her head drooped down involuntarily.

"Oliver is a good man. You could try opening your heart - maybe you'll find that your previous judgment wasn't quite accurate."

Quinley brought up Oliver out of nowhere, making Daniela feel even more awkward. Her hands crossed in front of her, rubbing together constantly.

Seeing her uncomfortable state, Quinley couldn't help but laugh.

"Take your time. I'm not rushing you two. Daniela, I have high hopes for you both. I'm going back to my room to sleep now."

She got up and left the balcony.

In the dead of night, Daniela was surrounded by the thick darkness.

She tried hard to calm her heart, but it seemed beyond her control.

She looked up at the sky - no moon, only stars filling the sky.

Dots of stars, like blinking eyes.

She gazed at those stars, but suddenly felt they were like Oliver.

He was different from Zachary's domineering ways. Being with him, Daniela felt comfortable.

But getting someone to let go of their initial prejudices wasn't easy.

The next morning, when Daniela came downstairs, she saw Oliver already chatting with Martha in the dining room.

Seeing Daniela come down, he waved at her enthusiastically.

"Daniela, is everything packed? Let's head out after breakfast."

Daniela was stunned, a bit confused.

She didn't know what Oliver was up to, so she didn't respond.

"You stay up all night and can't wake up during the day. Don't keep the young master waiting. Go get your things and come down. It's lucky that the young master has a good temper, taking you along on a location scouting trip. Don't cause him any trouble."

Martha smiled as she scolded Daniela.

This time, Daniela completely understood.

She nodded gratefully at Oliver. "I've packed. Just need to bring it down."

She turned around, quickly went upstairs, found her backpack, and casually stuffed a couple of changes of clothes into it.

When she came back downstairs, Oliver was still standing at the kitchen door chatting with Martha.

"Let me put your bag in the car for you."

As Oliver spoke, he took the bag from Daniela's hand and quickly walked toward the door.

As soon as he left, Martha grabbed Daniela's arm and started her pre-departure instructions.

"Daniela, Mr. Oliver is a good person. Since you're willing to go out with him, what I need to tell you is, besides protecting yourself, you should also try to get to know him better. I really like him. What about you?"

"Mom, the pot's burning. You should go take care of it."

Daniela interrupted Martha.

Her personal issues - she hadn't even figured them out herself yet. She didn't want anyone else getting involved.

Soon, Oliver came back.

As Martha served breakfast, she started giving Oliver instructions too.

"Mr. Oliver, I've spoiled Daniela. She's cold and stubborn. On this trip, please be patient with her. If she argues with you, call me and I'll scold her. If she makes you angry, tell me when you get back and I'll stand up for you."

As Martha said all this, Oliver listened with a smile the whole time.

"Martha, actually taking Daniela on this trip is my gain. Daniela is so capable - no one would dare bully us. Don't worry, I'll take good care of Daniela and definitely won't let her get bullied."

Martha laughed. "I'm not worried about her getting bullied. I'm worried about her bullying you."

She hit the nail on the head.

Daniela rolled her eyes.

Oliver still listened with a smile, even defending Daniela. "Not at all. Daniela has never bullied me."

Daniela couldn't listen anymore.

She was thin-skinned, and with Oliver so close, her skin started turning red again.

"I'm full. I'll wait in the car."

She got up and quickly walked outside.

Martha let out a long sigh. "She just can't take any criticism. With that temper, what will she do when she gets married? Who could put up with her?"

Oliver still smiled. He also got up and walked out. "Martha, we're heading out. We'll be back in a few days when we're done."

Martha walked Oliver and Daniela all the way to the gate.

Once through that gate, Daniela rolled her window all the way down. Wind rushed in, lifting her short hair and making it flutter wildly.

Oliver turned to glance at Daniela. She deliberately kept some distance from him, turning her head away and keeping her gaze outside the window.

"Don't be afraid. I've made all the arrangements at the hospital. These next few days, I'll be with you the whole time."

"Thanks."

But Daniela's tone was flat.

She didn't know how to respond, only feeling that the relationship between her and Oliver was particularly awkward. The car stopped at the hospital entrance. Oliver grabbed her bag and got out, and the two walked in side by side.

"I want to see Sunny first."

After Oliver handled her admission procedures, Daniela wanted to see Sunny.

"Okay, I'll go with you."

Oliver said.

The two entered the elevator and got off on the twenty-first floor.

Daniela stepped out first but stopped outside Sunny's room.

Inside, Justin and Caroline were keeping watch by Sunny's bedside.

"Sunny, your surgery is scheduled for tomorrow morning. The doctor said the success rate will be very high. You'll be able to recover to normal then."

Caroline happily bent down and kissed Sunny's forehead several times.

The worry on Justin's face was completely gone. "Sunny, Dad promised you before that once you recover, our family will travel around the world. Dad keeps his word. You think about it first - where should we go for our first stop?"

Outside the door, Daniela just stood there.

Oliver turned to look at Daniela. He felt awful inside.

"Why won't you tell them that you're donating the bone marrow?"

This was what puzzled him most.

Daniela showed a bitter smile. "Does it matter who donated it? What matters is that he can survive."

After saying this, she took a step and walked quickly toward the elevator.

Soon, it was the next day.

Oliver made arrangements for Daniela to have her bone marrow extracted early.

It was clearly very painful, but she kept enduring it.

On the other side, Sunny was also wheeled into the operating room.

Following Daniela's instructions, Oliver didn't wait outside the operating room but kept some distance.

Outside the operating room, Justin and Caroline waited anxiously.

Three hours later, Sunny was wheeled out.

The doctor removed his mask and said something to Justin and the others. Oliver only saw the two of them crying tears of joy.

Soon, Justin, still unconscious from anesthesia and lying on the hospital bed, was wheeled out.

Justin and Caroline, one on each side, escorted the bed to the ward.

After they left, Oliver approached the operating room.

A few more minutes passed, and Daniela was wheeled out on a gurney. Her face was pale, and she looked extremely weak.

"Daniela, are you okay?"

Oliver's heart ached. His hand trembled as he stroked Daniela's hair.

She nodded slightly. "I'm fine."

A few weak words came from her dry throat.

After she was sent back to her room, Oliver stayed by her side constantly.

When the anesthesia wore off, the spot where the bone marrow was extracted hurt terribly. Daniela curled up desperately but never cried out.

"Is there anything I can do for you?"

Oliver asked.

If he could, he wished he could bear all of this for Daniela.

"I want to rest for a bit. You should go back. I'll call you if I need anything."

She said.

Oliver didn't insist. He let out a slight breath. "Okay, I'll go out and get you something to eat. Sleep for a while, and I'll be back when you wake up."

Daniela responded, and her heavy eyelids soon closed.

He walked over, tucked in Daniela's blanket, and then quietly left.

Daniela's room was only one floor away from Sunny's.

Unexpectedly, Oliver ran into Justin in the elevator.

Justin was on the phone, cheerfully telling someone about Sunny's successful match.

"Yeah, this thing is a bit coincidental, but we're lucky. Sunny is my only son. Even if he can't be like a normal person, I'll still give him all my love..."

He talked and laughed.

The sound grated on Oliver's ears.

He turned back and gave Justin a cold glance.

Justin's voice quickly became quieter. "Yeah, thanks. We'll get together again when my son is discharged."

After hanging up, Justin started trying to get friendly with Oliver.

"Mr. Oliver, you're at the hospital too? Is someone from your family admitted?"

Oliver looked down at him. "Get lost."

For someone like Justin, he really didn't want to waste a single polite word.

Justin was stunned and quite embarrassed. He took a step back.

But soon, he came closer again.

"Mr. Oliver, please help tell Daniela that Sunny has found matching bone marrow. He just had surgery today, and it was very successful. Tell her not to worry anymore - we won't bother her. I was rash before."

For some reason, when Justin said these things, Oliver felt a surge of anger rising inside him.

"Do you know where your son's bone marrow came from?"

Daniela had suffered so much, yet Justin, as her father, hadn't mentioned it at all. Instead, he was here showing off about his son.

"I asked the doctor. It was from a kind donor. People like to do good deeds, you know. Naturally, they wouldn't leave their name. But also, our Sunny is lucky - God is watching over him."

Oliver pointed his trembling finger at Justin.

So many words were stuck in his throat. He wanted to say all these things on Daniela's behalf.

"Utterly foolish."

He left those words behind and strode out as the elevator doors opened.

But what he didn't expect was that Justin would follow him again.

"Mr. Oliver."

Just as Oliver got in his car, Justin reached out and tapped on the window. He put on a shameless face, wanting to say something.

Oliver reluctantly rolled down the window a bit, and Justin immediately spoke up.

"Mr. Oliver, I know you have a very good relationship with Daniela. I have a favor to ask of you."

Oliver gave him a cold look.

Justin didn't feel the least bit ashamed. As Oliver was about to roll up the window, he reached out to block it.

"Mr. Oliver, I know you're Mr. Jennings' younger brother. My company has a business deal we'd like to work with Mr. Jennings on. You know, my company isn't very big, but our business capabilities are very strong. I'd like to ask you to help make the connection. What do you think?"

"What makes you think I would help you?"

Oliver's brows furrowed tightly, anger showing on his face.

But Justin seemed oblivious.

"Haha, just for Daniela's sake. I'm her real father, after all. Helping me is helping her. If my business makes money, I'll definitely compensate her and her mother."

Oliver couldn't listen anymore.

He pressed hard on the button to close the window. Justin winced in pain and had to withdraw his hand.

After he pulled his hand back, Oliver rolled the window down again.

"Justin, I'm warning you - stay away from Daniela from now on. And don't think about taking advantage of Daniela. Otherwise, don't blame me for being rude to you."

His words were very harsh.

Then Oliver stepped on the gas, and the car roared out of the parking lot.

Daniela had a lot of bone marrow extracted and needed nutritional supplements. Oliver went to the international supermarket in the central mall and bought many nutritional products to bring over.

He also specially ordered nourishing soup from a five-star hotel.

When he came back after doing all this, he unexpectedly discovered that Martha had appeared in Daniela's hospital room.
