Chapter 354 Take Her Away
Chapter 354 Take Her Away
Justin didn't understand Daniela.
In his eyes, Daniela in her early twenties was just a naive young girl who knew nothing about the world.
"This is a gift from Sunny for you. He was so happy to know he has a sister that he drew this picture."
As Justin spoke, he reached back and grabbed a drawing from the back seat to hand to Daniela.
It was a simple sketch with a childish style.
The picture showed two people, Sunny and Daniela, holding hands and smiling happily. Behind them was an endless garden with all kinds of flowers blooming brightly.
Daniela took the drawing, forcing a slight smile at the corners of her mouth.
"My mom is still waiting for me. I have to go."
She pulled open the car door and quickly got out.
Justin hurriedly opened his door and followed. He jogged to catch up with Daniela.
"Daniela, are you free this weekend? Sunny said he wants to go to the zoo. Could you come with him?"
"We'll see."
Daniela didn't give him a straight answer.
Justin was a bit disappointed, but he forced a smile. "Okay, I'll contact you in advance."
Daniela quickly disappeared at the hospital entrance. When she appeared in Martha's ward, Oliver was there too.
Oliver had arrived half an hour earlier.
Martha had asked him to investigate Justin, and he quickly found some leads.
This Justin had cheated on his wife shortly after Daniela was born.
And the woman he cheated with was Caroline.
Caroline was sort of a rich girl. She was an only child, and her father owned a small flour mill. Justin worked as a salesman at that mill at the time.
Somehow, one thing led to another, and he got involved with Caroline.
At that time, he was already married with a child. Everyone at the mill knew about it.
By the time word got out about him and Caroline, she was already pregnant with Sunny.
Justin went all in, asked Martha for a divorce, and quickly married Caroline, becoming the son-in-law of the flour mill owner.
Because of this connection, he thrived and quickly made a name for himself in the industry. Later, he made a fortune through real estate.
Then he switched to the building materials business.
Now, he owned a pretty large building materials company, and business was going well.
By all logic, having reached this level, he would never go back to contact Martha and her daughter.
But two months ago, Sunny was diagnosed with leukemia and needed a bone marrow transplant. Justin pulled all kinds of strings, but the matching kept failing.
So he thought of Daniela.
His biological daughter would definitely be the best match.
When Oliver told Martha what he had found out, Martha was shocked.
"Mr. Oliver, you absolutely can't let him succeed. Daniela is my everything. I can't let anything happen to her."
Martha was extremely worried.
Oliver nodded. "Martha, don't worry. I'll do everything I can to protect Daniela."
Martha leaned against the headboard, still shaken.
She understood Justin's nature better than anyone. Whatever he wanted to get, he would find a way to get it by any means necessary.
Now, to save his son, since he had set his sights on Daniela, how could he easily let her go?
"Mr. Oliver, please, take Daniela away right now. The farther the better."
Martha was terrified. She grabbed Oliver's hand and begged.
In this situation, Oliver could only agree.
"Okay, I promise you."
When Daniela pushed the door open, Martha was holding Oliver's hand, tears on her face, looking pleading.
"Oliver, what did you do to my mom?"
Daniela rushed over in anger and grabbed Oliver's throat with one hand.
He could have dodged, but in front of her, he did nothing.
"Daniela, let go! You can't be so rude to Mr. Oliver." Martha reached out to pull Daniela's hand away.
But there was a murderous look in Daniela's eyes.
Oliver remained silent, not saying a word.
"Get out!"
She finally let go and shouted at Oliver.
"Martha, I'll come see you another day."
Oliver's neck was already red. Daniela had been too rough just now, but he just pulled his collar up to cover the red mark.
Oliver nodded to Martha, looked deeply at Daniela, then turned and left.
As soon as he left, Martha's scolding voice rang out.
"Daniela, you know perfectly well how Mr. Oliver feels about you. Why do you treat him like this? Look at who he is, and he's willing to take such good care of us. We need to be grateful."
Martha's earnest words drilled into Daniela's ears.
But she found them particularly grating.
"If you want to be grateful, you be grateful. I make my own living. Why should I be grateful to this person or that person?"
She plopped down, grabbed an apple from the bedside table, and took small bites, her face full of indifference.
Martha was frustrated with her. "When will you finally grow up?"
"What's so good about growing up?" Daniela shot back.
Between mother and daughter, when they were apart, they always missed each other, but as soon as they met, they felt uncomfortable if they didn't bicker for a day.
Martha had no interest in continuing to argue with Daniela. "I'm getting discharged in a few days. You should leave soon too."
She deliberately used this approach, trying to drive Daniela away.
"Where to? I came back this time with no plans to leave again. Didn't you always say you missed me? I already told Mr. Jennings I'm never leaving your side again."
Daniela said deliberately.
"What good does it do to keep you by my side? Can you cook for me or do my laundry? You're all grown up, but you won't date, won't get married. All you do is make me angry. You'd better leave. I'll go talk to Mr. Jennings."
Martha said this and was about to get out of bed.
Daniela didn't stop her. She knew her mother's nature.
Sure enough, Martha walked to the ward door, then turned back.
"Mr. Oliver likes you. What do you think about it?"
Martha stood in front of Daniela and asked again.
"I don't think anything."
Daniela still had that carefree attitude.
Martha let out a heavy sigh and raised her hand to hit Daniela. "It's all because I spoiled you. I deserve this."
Every time she tried to hit Daniela, it was just for show. She raised her hand high, but when it came down, there was no real force.
Actually, even if she hit Daniela hard, Daniela wouldn't feel pain.
But since she made the gesture of hitting Daniela, Daniela naturally had to play along and pretend to dodge.
At that moment, the drawing fell out of Daniela's pocket.
It landed on the floor with a soft but heavy sound.
"What's this?"
Martha immediately noticed the drawing. She bent down and picked it up right away.
Daniela realized what happened and tried to grab it, but this time, she was a second too late.
Martha unfolded it. The picture showed a little boy holding a little girl's hand, with a line of text that read, Sunny and Daniela.
The moment she saw this drawing, Martha understood everything.
She stared at Daniela in disbelief, her eyes wide open.
The hand clutching the drawing showed bulging veins, every finger trembling.
"You went to see them?"
Her voice wasn't loud, but it had strong penetrating power, drilling into one's ears, making the heart feel particularly oppressed.
Daniela had wanted to hide it from Martha, but now she couldn't.
"Yeah."
She hung her head and answered in a muffled voice.
The moment Daniela's words fell, Martha raised her hand, and her palm came down hard on Daniela's face.
In all these years, she had hit Daniela countless times, but never once had she used this much force.
"Didn't I tell you not to go see them? Why didn't you listen? What, this poor mother can't give you the life you want? How much money did he give you? Or what sweet words did he say to make you, you cheap thing, forgive him so quickly?"
Martha roared with all her strength.
Her voice was trembling, her lips were trembling, and even the tears about to spill from her eyes were trembling.
"Since you want to acknowledge him so badly, fine. From now on, you don't have me as a mother. Go be with him. I suffered so much in this life, raising you all by myself—what a fool I was!"
Martha cursed angrily.
The ward was very quiet, so quiet that only Martha's weak cursing could be heard.
She cursed with all her might. Daniela didn't look up, just kept sitting in that position.
The place on her face where she'd been hit burned with pain, and so did her heart.
"Get out! Get out!"
Martha grabbed Daniela's arm and forcefully dragged her out.
She didn't resist, letting Martha push her out of the ward.
Not explaining was always Daniela's way.
In her world, words were unnecessary. She preferred to do rather than say.
So when she was misunderstood by her own mother, she didn't choose to explain but remained silent.
The ward door was quickly locked from inside. Martha was crying her heart out inside, while Daniela just stood at the door.
She didn't leave, just stood there with reddened eyes, tears never falling.
When we were young, people would tell us that hard work could get us everything. It's only when we grow up that we understand—a good job can be obtained through hard work, more money can be earned through hard work.
But the wounds our family background inflicts on us can never be erased, no matter how hard we try.
Only after the ward quieted down did Daniela get up and walk out.
A crowd had gathered at the entrance to the inpatient building. It had started raining outside at some point.
The rain fell from the sky, dense and urgent, as if falling into Daniela's heart.
She walked through the crowd, as if she couldn't see the rain, and walked into it without hesitation.
But after just a few steps, an umbrella suddenly appeared over her head.
