Chapter 350 A Father From Nowhere

Chapter 350 A Father From Nowhere

There was only one hospital in town. The inpatient building was shabby and run-down. Oliver never expected he'd actually find Martha there.

"Martha, what's wrong with you?"

Oliver's appearance made the crowded three-person ward feel somewhat different.

He was tall and handsome, and after three months of intensive training, his demeanor wasn't just refined anymore—it had gained a new maturity.

Martha was on an IV drip. She looked up and caught sight of Oliver.

"Mr. Oliver, what are you doing here? This place is dirty, you shouldn't have come."

Martha kept saying.

Oliver didn't speak. He found a chair and sat down by Martha's bed.

"Don't tell Mr. and Mrs. Jennings about me being in the hospital. I don't want them to worry."

Martha grabbed Oliver's hand and urged him.

Oliver remained silent, then nodded. "Okay."

He had come here to find Daniela, but he never expected to stumble upon Martha's secret.

She was sick, and seriously so.

"Martha, come back to Rosewood City with me. I'll find you the best doctors."

Oliver was soft-hearted. He couldn't bear to see Martha looking so ill.

Martha smiled, still showing her usual openness and cheerfulness.

"No need. I've already been checked. It can't be cured."

Her bright smile on that gloomy afternoon seemed particularly striking.

Something soft inside Oliver's heart was pierced with pain.

He knew Martha, yet not that well.

He wanted to say something, but found he couldn't say anything at all.

"Let me transfer you some money."

This was the only thing he could think of doing, but Martha firmly refused.

"Mr. Oliver, I have money. I have plenty of money. It's enough."

She desperately tried to stop him.

Oliver felt terrible inside.

He hung his head, and despite being so tall and thin, he looked like a child.

"Why are you here alone?" Oliver asked again.

"Daniela had something to do and went out. She'll be back in a few days. I'm fine, I can take care of myself."

"Let me stay here and look after you for the next few days." Oliver made the decision on the spot.

Martha refused repeatedly, but it was no use.

Oliver checked into the town's only hotel that day and stayed at the hospital from morning till night.

When Martha was on her IV drip, she would always get drowsy and fall asleep.

He would lean by the bed, keeping an eye on the IV tube while reading the news.

Early one morning, he bought some porridge and was coming in from outside. Just as he reached the ward door, he heard an unfamiliar voice inside.

"Martha, I wronged you back then, but I have no choice now, do I? Where's Daniela? Just tell me, okay? She's my daughter after all. She can't go her whole life without acknowledging me as her father, right?"

Daniela's father?

Oliver was shocked. He remembered hearing Martha mention that her husband had died over ten years ago.

How could someone who'd been dead for so many years suddenly come back to life?

"Daniela doesn't have a father like you. Leave. Don't show up again. I will never let Daniela see you."

Martha's voice was cold.

But the man didn't give up. "Martha, you're dying anyway. Why are you still so stubborn? When you die, I'll be Daniela's only family in this world. Do you want Daniela to become an orphan? Just tell me where Daniela is. Once you tell me, I'll leave right away. I promise I'll never bother you again."

"Give up on that idea. Even if I die, I won't tell you where Daniela is."

Martha's attitude was firm.

But the man's patience was clearly running thin. "Fine, then I'll wait here for you to die. When you die, Daniela will have to show up, won't she?"

"Justin, you're shameless. You abandoned me and Daniela for that woman back then, and now you suddenly want to claim this daughter back. Daniela won't acknowledge a father like you."

"Whether she acknowledges me or not is her business. You can't decide for her. I admit I was wrong back then, but I had no choice. She was already pregnant with my child, and it was a son. I could only choose to divorce you and marry her."

Justin spoke shamelessly.

"Get out. Get out of here."

Martha got angry and shouted. Oliver was outside the door and heard Martha's voice start to tremble.

At that moment, without thinking, he pushed the door open and appeared before them both.

"Martha."

Oliver walked quickly toward the bed. He went straight to Martha's side, his gaze coldly sweeping over Justin.

He was tall, slightly overweight, and his clothing suggested decent financial means.

Yet this seemingly respectable man was threatening Martha like a thug at her hospital bed.

"Mr. Oliver."

Martha showed an embarrassed expression.

Having Oliver witness her most shameful side, she didn't know how to face him for a moment.

For over ten years, she had told everyone her husband was dead, that she and Daniela were a widow and orphan. But now, that husband had come back to life.

"Please leave."

Oliver coldly glanced at Justin and barked at him.

From the moment Oliver came to Martha's side, Justin's eyes hadn't left him.

"You must be Oliver Jennings from the Jennings family, right? Nice to meet you. I'm Justin. I work at Prime Holdings now."

Oliver's brows furrowed slightly. Though he didn't know the man in front of him, he knew about Prime Holdings.

"Get out."

He shouted coldly again.

Justin was quite surprised. He never expected Oliver wouldn't give him any face at all.

"Mr. Oliver..."

"Get out!"

Oliver shouted sternly again.

Justin looked embarrassed. He turned around, about to leave, but at that moment, Daniela appeared.

She wore a windbreaker, still dressed androgynously, carrying lots of things. She kicked the ward door open and appeared before everyone just like that.

"Daniela."

Justin blurted out, joy showing in his eyes.

"Daniela."

From the bed, Martha let out a weak call, her eyes full of worry and guilt.

"You're back."

Joy rippled through Oliver's heart.

He hadn't seen Daniela in almost four months. She seemed not to have changed at all.

But he had changed. He hoped the changed version of himself was the type Daniela would like.

"Please leave. My mother needs to rest."

Daniela looked coldly at Justin. She didn't care at all about his identity, just emphasized that one sentence—for him to leave.

Justin felt awkward. He never imagined his first meeting with his daughter would be like this.

"Daniela, I'm your father."

He pointed at his chest, his eyes reddening.

"I don't have a father. My father died nineteen years ago. Please leave."

Daniela's voice was as cold as wind and snow.

Justin panicked. He rushed over and grabbed Daniela's arm. "I'm not dead! Your mother lied to you. I've been alive all along. Daniela, my dear daughter, let me get a good look at you. My daughter has grown more and more beautiful..."

Before he could finish, an angry Daniela twisted Justin's arm behind his back.

His face turned red with pain.

He kept crying out in pain, but Daniela didn't let go.

"Get lost. As far away as possible. You hear me?"
