Chapter 18
The event was a success and it was time for him to head to his hotel room.
“I would have really loved to tour the city but there's no one to show me around seeing that you are very busy and I wouldn't want to inconvenience you,” he said to Mr Jack.
“I can arrange for a Doctor to show you around. I hope you don't mind Doctor Rachel?”
“Well, I don't mind. It can be anybody. I just want to appreciate the beauty of the city.” he answered.
You lie. It is so obvious you were leaping for joy immediately he suggested Rachel. Thst was your plan all along. His inner voice said.
“You don't have to do it if you don't want to. You act like you were asked to carry the weight of the world. Rachel, I love you. It's okay if you don't feel the same way for me. I hate that you have this look of hurt anytime I am around you. I noticed you were trying to avoid me all day. I promise you nothing happened between me and Kate. I'll rather love you from a distance than see you hurting anytime I come around you. I want to spend the rest of my life with you but then again maybe it's just a one-sided feeling. So if it inconveniences you to share a ride with me then it's okay I can always find time to tour on my next visit.”
“We can start from the famous Bathina Gallery. You might see some Art work you love.”
The ride was a very quiet one except on occasions when he took some business call.
Aiden was a man who could get any woman at the snap of his fingers and even when he was married to Sabrina,
women till threw themselves all over him. It was allover social media. Different women showing off their fake boobs and clinging to him like their live depended on it during red carpet photoshoots. Sabrina was really a strong woman because she never cared about the rumours and pictures. She must have trusted him so much.
He just poured out his feelings for her and she didn't have any response to give him. Inferiority complex was indeed a very terrible thing. She didn't come from a rich home but she was making a decent pay and she was happy with it. Dating Aiden meant she had to step up her wardrobe game, buy trendy things. If she couldn't meet up to the so called Social standard, she was certain that paparrazis were coming for her. Funny how she stepped out of her house just some days ago in a bleached mom short, a strapless bodycon top and a boaters hat. Could she do the same if she was dating Aiden. He may be okay with how she dressed on casual days but she couldn't say the same for the society.
Why did she have to care what others thought about her dressing. She could come out in a bikers short and colourful sock and careless of what people had to say. It was her body. She would wear what made her comfortable and not what others thought was comfortable for her. Was it too late to tell Aiden she had had feelings for him since the day she set her foot into this world. It was getting late already and he had suggested he dropped her at home.
“Would you like to come in so I can make something for you to eat?” she asked.
“No thanks. I have inconvenienced you enough. I wouldn't want to push it. Sweet dreams.”
“Are you traveling back tomorrow? ”
“Would be around for a day or two. I have some major things to put in place before the renovation starts. Good night.”
One minute he was professing his undying love for her and the next minute he was acting like a stranger.
Her alarm clock rang as usual and she stopped it from further damaging her ears by slamming the stop button on top of it.
She took her bath and picked out a cartoon brown two piece cloth. The pants hugged her hips and was loose at the button. The top was a perfect fit which stopped right about the high waisted pants. It defined her waist and made her look like she had an interview in the white house. Why did it feel like she was trying to impress someone.
Of course you know you are trying to impress Aiden. Her inner voice said.
“Hi Mr James.” she said.
“Good day Ms Smith. If you would please excuse me I have something to attend to.”
“Sure. ”
Did she change that much that he didn't recognise her? But he addressed her as Ms Smith. Why did he greet her so casually? It almost felt like he was avoiding a plague. From a distance she could see some nurses trailing him with their eyes and giggling like children who were just handed their favourite ice-cream.
Why are you so angry? Last we checked he is a single man and you said you didn't want him to act like he was familiar with you. Her inner voice said.
The rest of the day went by in a blur with her rehearsing how she was going to spill her heart to him during her free time. He was about to drive off when she hurriedly tapped his window.
“Are you free later in the evening? Would be baking some cupcakes and I thought you might want to have some.”
“That is nice of you but I would be having a business call later in the evening and I don't know when I'll be through. Maybe some other time if I'm chanced before I go back. Do have a pleasant night rest.” he said.
She deserved it she thought. Having continuously turned him down, she guessed he had moved on. How could he move on so fast? Throughout the whole day he was acting as if they were strangers. He didn't even look at her twice. What a wasted effort of trying to look hot for him.
