Chapter 74 Forgiveness

Chapter 74 Forgiveness
Inez’s POV

Irene had been quiet all morning.

I mean, there were times she would leave me all meshed up in my own thoughts but to have her awfully quiet for this long had me edged up.

Even as we walked along the road together, I couldn’t hold it in much further.

“Okay. I think I have had enough. Spill it. Why did you turn down Leo’s help to drive you back to Sundale?” I faced Irene.

Irene momentarily looked stunned by my question. “It wouldn’t be wise to inconvenient him. Would it?” She asked.

My brows twitched.

The question puzzled me.

“Care to explain while you stayed up in the toilet when you came into the room last night?” I pressed with another question.

She only gave a shrug. “You noticed?”

“What happened last night, Irene?”

“Nothing.” She replied. “Nothing happened last night.”

I decided to drop it. It was only because Irene had rejected Leo’s help that I decided to do same.

We both reached the bus stop where we would both take different buses- Irene to Sundale and I to Kiway’s hospital.

Irene abruptly turned towards me before a bus pulled up.

“Do you actually conform to the idea that two friends who have known each other from way back that they end up loving each other?”

My eyes stretched, the question itself was appalling.

“If they both share mutual feelings, it would work. But if it is one-sided, one party may suffer the fate of unrequited love. And that could possibly distort a good friendship.” I responded.

Her hands were clasped before her. She nodded with a weak smile.

“Is this about Leo?” I studied her.

She shook her head vehemently. “No.”

“Is Dan still troubling you?”

“This isn’t about Dan or anyone else. Okay?”

“Okay. Then tell me why you have been awfully quiet? Unless something happened.”

Irene let out an uneasy laugh.
Why wouldn’t she bring herself to let me in on that?

Irene had always been carefree like a bird.

Perhaps she didn’t want any streak of judgement from me.

She only had broken up with Dan some couple of days ago….

Or maybe she just wasn’t ready to reveal the fact that she was finding Leo attractive. And it may likely hurt her that her feelings for him was unrequited love.

And I didn’t ask Leo how he had helped Irene’s abuse from Dan. Perhaps I should have asked, by so doing - I would be able detect if Leo also had feelings for Irene.

Surprisingly, she hurled me into her arms, grabbing me into a tight-knit hug.

The smug look on her face had disappeared.

“I will miss you dearly.” She whispered to my ears.

A bus slowed and stopped just beside us, it was a bus going to Sundale. Before I could bring myself to press her for answers, Irene slipped from my arms and started to slide into the bus.

“Let me know if Lola wakes up.” She waved at me from the bus.

And that was when I got reminded that I needed to see Lola.

My heart frantically jumped out of me.

Someone was already in the ward which Lola was.

But who I saw standing beside Lola’s bed, holding hands with her had me stunned.

His back was to the door but he had sensed when I opened the door. The moment he shot a look behind him, he dropped Lola’s hand.

“Aspher?” I called in surprise.

“I am sorry. I shouldn’t be here.” He avoided eye contact with me and tried to leave.

“You shouldn’t leave.” I called, stopping him.

Lola had no friends aside Sandra, but Sandra wasn’t here. None of the other students from school had been here either.

But I didn’t think I recalled seeing Lola and Aspher being close. They had sat in the cafeteria once. Then he had walked over to her seat requesting for a book. I was definitely sure he was only trying to be friendly with her.

“I am not mad you are in here. Stay please.”

He shot his gaze at me. “Just wanted to check in on her.” He said.

A nurse walked in, cross-checked on Lola’s vitals then stepped out again.

“I’d thought she was pregnant…” He paused catching my attention.

“Pregnant?” I muttered, stunned.

“Never mind.”

“No, I need you to explain.” I said to him.

Then he explained to me how he had seen Lola buy some pregnancy test kit which he’d thought were for her.

My throat burned.

“I will need you to tell my Aunt this.” I said.

He cocked his brows. “Your aunt?”

“Most of the kids at school didn’t know Lola and I are related. We are cousins.”

“I don’t think meeting your aunt is the best idea. I do not want to have anything to do with this.”

I scoffed. “My aunt doesn’t believe that Lola did this to herself. She blames me instead.”

“Will anything change if I say something to all of this?”

I shrugged.

“You may not think much on this but I would advise that you wait till….probably when Lola is awake. She was thoroughly conflicted. There was so much going wrong with her….”

“But that doesn’t give her the right to frame me for being pregnant. You do not know her like I do.” I put in, anger surging through me like electricity.

“You are right. I may not know Lola like you do. But let’s wake she is awake. My only wish is that you will be able to let it go.”

Another scoff slipped out from me. A tear slid down from my eye before I realized it.

What did Aspher Sower really know about Lola?

He only sat at the back of the class, talked with her-once or twice. Now, he was telling me to let it all go?

“That could have been me lying on that bed. My own cousin decided to push me off the rooftop. She had it all planned out. Now, you stand there and tell me to let it all go?”

He had a look of confusion plastered on his face. And before I would bring myself to burst into tears - I raced out of the room.

I didn’t know how long I had been in the restroom, but I knew I had to leave for school but that was after I see Lola one last time.

Releasing all those bottled up tears made me feel much better.

But Aspher Sower was the one standing beside Lola’s bed.

It was Aunt Jeanette.

My heart began a drum roll.

She stalked towards me, reached out and smacked me hard across my face.

“Where have you been?”
