Chapter Thirty Eight
Chapter Thirty Eight
Jhelani's POV:
"Fine, just do it." I mumbled, rolling my eyes with a sigh. I needed to get to work as soon as possible, I was running late. Hopefully, they wouldn't be pissed at me for coming too late.
Just when Jace wanted to take a hold of my hand again, my phone buzzed with a notification in my tote bag.
"A second please." I instantly took out my phone and checked what it was because I barely got notifications so it must be an important stuff. And I've blocked every notifying sounds whenever I got a text from my highschool friends. Their conversations in the group chat were always useless to me anyway except it's Lisa talking.
"What?" I frowned. Shocked.
"What's wrong?" They all appeared before me.
"I-I..." My lips quivered, hand trembling with my phone in my hand. Too stund to even speak properly.
"What'd you get that got you looking this way?" Damon asked. They were trying to get a look at my phone.
"I lost the job, guys. Oh my goodness." I felt frustration running through me.
This job was my last hope. Where would I start now? I would have to start all over again searching for a well paying job. This is bullshit. Fuck it.
"How could they just choose to fire you before you even begin? You applied and they accept you. That's a dumb move for real," Jace said, looking almost as frustrated as me.
"They said they wouldn't accept me because one of their unbreakable rules there is to be at work before resumption time and on my first day I'm already breaking the rules before I even begin. They can't accept someone like that or else many lives would have been gone before I even get to work if everyone acted that way," I sighed, my shoulders dropping. I understood them that's why I wasn't furious. This was a hospital by the way. Every staff, nurse, doctor needed to be there on time everyday because you may never know what emergencies that would come up. It might be really complicated as hell and many lives would have been gone.
Sigh.
"It's okay, you can always find another," Kian tried to console me, his hand gripping on my shoulder in a comforting way. I nodded.
"Yeah, I will. But it would be pretty hard. There's no much job opportunities in town unlike the big city," I said. Just then I heard a door creaking open and it was Damon walking out, his hand in his jacket front pockets.
"Where are you off to?" I asked and he paused, not turning to me.
He tilted his head over his shoulder without really turning to me. "I will be back pretty soon, Snowfire." He said before he vanished.
I frowned, then glanced at Kian and Jace, silently asking with my eyes if they knew what he was up to and they gave me a sign that they had no idea.
"I'd take my leave then. I need to have some time alone to process all the stuffs going on in my head now," I said as I took my leave. They didn't try to stop me. I felt their eyes on my back while I exited the apartment. By the time I stepped out, I realized where we were and why the interior structure felt deeply familiar.
They were directly under my apartment.
I dashed back in, my brows drew together.
"What's going on here, Jace?" I asked suspiciously, my eyes strained on them both.
Kian shrugged, walking over to the counter in the kitchen and poured himself a glass of water from the jug that was on the counter while Jace sat down on the couch in the sitting room, picked up a remote from the center table and turned on the TV.
I walked and stood before him because he was the one who brought us here.
"Who and where are the people living here? You know this is wrong right? You could get arrested for breaking into their home if they find out about this," I scolded.
"They can't, so don't worry your little head about us, Foxie. They would do no such thing. Not when we bought and own the building." He said casually, unwrapping a candy and popping it in his mouth.
"You guys did what?" I think I must be dreaming or maybe i have some hearing problems because what the hell did he mean by that?
"You heard right. What you did got Damon pissed off. You returned everything he got for you so Damon went puff like a bomb. We didn't know what he was up to until we overhead him contacting the owner of this building and made sure he bought it. We kind of liked the idea though, I especially because well, at least I'd get to spend more time with you and that bastard who hurt you wouldn't..." He stopped, his first curling on the armrest of the couch.
"Damon told you guys." I whispered in a question, but it felt more like I was saying it to myself.
"He didn't." Kian said as he strode out of the kitchen with a glass of water, walked up to me and handed it to me. "We figured it out. But best believe that Kayden guy wouldn't be a bother to you anymore. He is gone. And that is...for good." His lips curled up slowly with an edge to his words, and shit I
felt a shiver run down my spine. I knew what that means.
