RP Chapter 41

RP Chapter 41
Kyle shook his head as he followed Kacey and began to get dressed himself. This was going against everything he had planned the day before, but Kacey had taken off on him once before. That was something he never wanted to repeat.

Kacey was a little shocked when she saw Kyle come into the bedroom behind her and he began to change back into his clothes from the day before. She held her tongue as she did the same. She let out a little sigh when she realized her clothes were far from spotless.

She swallowed the feelings and threw her hair up into her normal pony tail she always had and headed out of the bathroom with Kyle behind her. A whisper of a thought that she would pay for this later entered and left her quickly. She had to keep in mind it didn’t matter, this was worth it.

She heard Kyle pick up his motorcycle keys as she headed out the side kitchen door then she maneuvered the bike out so they could close the door before taking off.

Kacey jumped on to the bike behind Kyle and they rushed to the warehouse she had been held in. She should have been there when everyone went through it, they didn’t know exactly where everything began. Granted they were investigators and they had been trained for it, but she felt she would have been more help.

It wasn’t long before she had to let go of the loving protector she had found as they pulled up to the building. She let out a sigh hoping she wouldn’t freak when they walked in. She already could feel her heart in her throat and her chest tightened a little. She could do this she just had to keep pushing herself. If Kyle could come back from almost death and be okay she could handle this.

She felt Kyle’s hand fall on her shoulder, and she felt her body relax at the same time. They made their way to the door. She stopped for a minute when she saw the yellow crime scene tape.

Kyle reached out lifting the tape higher and squeezed her shoulder. “We’ll be okay, we’re a part of the team-”

“We’re a part of the team yeah, but Cunningham is still going to be upset that we came here without him knowing.” Kacey ’s arm was grabbed, and she was spun around quickly.

“You’re worried about upsetting Cunningham more than the possibility of upsetting me?” Kyle searched her eyes slowly.

“The punishment you’ll give me is nothing compared to us losing our jobs, I will handle what you dish out to me, Kyle, but I won’t handle losing my job very well at all.” She made sure her gaze didn’t waver as she searched Kyle’s gaze right back.

She would never let him know the punishment he would deliver indeed scared her, but this would be worth it. They would find something, she could feel it in her bones.

Kyle let go of her arm and they made their way past the yellow tape. She took a deep breath, part of her was glad she would never remember being dragged into or through the factory but the other part of her desperately wanted to know how it happened.

This was making her feel blind and helpless. With the gift she had it was throwing her for a loop. She had never thought she’d ever be missing something and now she was.

“What’s wrong, Kace?” Kyle’s warm hand pressed against her back.

She glanced up quickly. “Maybe this was a bad idea, I don’t know what way they brought me in, I’ve never had a gap like this before.”

Kyle kneaded her back gently. “Trust me, honey, that’s not something you’ll miss, you will remember everything that happened in here far longer than you should, that little part being gone will be okay, my love,” he steered her forward a little. “Let’s just keep our eyes open.” He whispered as he turned a flashlight on.

The man was prepared for everything, she shook her head a little, but her eyes darted to every spot the light lit up.

They moved around the building slowly when all of a sudden metal glinted in between two wooden crates. Kacey moved away from Kyle quickly and began to move one of the crates over. She took in a deep breath when her eyes landed on a bullet. “KY, this must have been from when they shot at me, if this one is here I’ll bet there are more,” she turned back around. “Do you have any gloves, anything?”

Kyle shook his head a little and pulled some of the necessary equipment they would need for this investigation from the bag he must have packed before they took off.

Kacey took the gloves, a baggie and a pair of tweezers as Kyle handed them over. She carefully pulled the gloves on then picked up the lone bullet. “Ky, if there is this one, there has to be more, right?”

Kyle cracked his neck a little. “Not if these traitors were careful after we left and cleaned everything up but missed this one bullet, seems possible that they only missed the one.”

Kacey gazed at Kyle as the hope she had just felt left her. Why was she being so naïve right now? She needed to take herself out of this and treat this like a case she had solved time and time again, she had gone up against some of the smartest criminals before and this would be no different. She just had to get her wits about her again and trudge on until this was finished.

She understood more now why she needed to be kept from everything, she was going to be over analyzing everything, making something out of nothing. She stood and continued to where they had been standing as she ran from them. As she repeated in her mind to treat this like any other case her eyes darted around as she continued to walk.

She froze instantly, the chair she had been slammed down in was still in the middle of the room. The voice rolled over her in her head making her shiver.
