Chapter 641
Chapter 641
The Next Day.
The sun was shining brightly, and the air was fresh.
On a day like this, people's spirits were high too.
Early in the morning, Mia went out to buy groceries and brought back a large bouquet of freshly picked flowers.
As soon as Mia entered, she saw that Alice was already up.
"Alice, where are your mom and dad?" Mia asked.
"Shh." Alice immediately made a silencing gesture in front of Mia, then said in an extremely quiet voice, "My mom and dad are completing a task my great-grandma gave them. My great-grandma even gave my mom a secret recipe."
Mia immediately asked with a smile, "What task?"
"The task of giving me more brothers and sisters," Alice said proudly.
Mia's smile grew even warmer.
After a pause, she said with a smile, "Then we can't disturb them. Come here, Alice, let me make you a flower crown to wear."
"Okay! Thank you, Lyanna." Alice sat down next to Lyanna, watching her grandma make the flower crown.
In about ten minutes, a beautiful flower crown was finished. The little girl wore it on her head and looked like a fresh and lively little flower fairy, running around indoors.
She had just told Lyanna not to wake up her mom and dad, but now, because of the flower crown, she got so excited herself.
She kept chattering away like a morning lark, especially cheerful.
The noise eventually woke up Elizabeth and Alexander.
The moment she woke up, Elizabeth suddenly didn't know where she was.
She had slept so deeply yesterday that her brain was still in a foggy state. For a moment, she couldn't remember what day it was or where she was.
She couldn't even remember whose child was making that lark-like sound.
It wasn't until thirty or forty seconds later that she came to her senses.
Then she immediately smiled.
This was her own home.
The child was her own child.
Early in the morning, she still didn't know why Alice was so happy.
Elizabeth sat up straight, did a quick wash, and got dressed. Alexander woke up too, and the two of them walked out together to see the little fairy wearing the tall flower crown, running here and there.
The little fairy would help Lyanna with the vegetables one moment, then carry a watering can to the big balcony to water the flowers the next.
Elizabeth leaned against the corridor, looking at the morning scenery, completely enchanted.
What unpleasantness at the Windsor Manor?
What anonymous phone calls?
What Guise family people!
What Declan.
What did any of that have to do with her?
Her life, as long as her mother was alive, and she had Alexander and their child, was the happiest thing possible.
Anything more than that was a gift from heaven.
If she had it, she was grateful.
If she didn't, she had no regrets.
"Alexander, let's go see Mom after breakfast," Elizabeth asked gently.
Alexander nodded. "Okay, we should go see Mom. I still don't know what effect that eighteen million dollars' worth of furniture will have in her room."
Alexander was a very cold person. He didn't show much warmth toward people. However, when he called his mother-in-law "Mom," it came so naturally.
After all, Elizabeth had taken care of Esme so thoughtfully back then.
When Elizabeth called Esme that, there was no awkwardness either.
Moreover, the person Alexander was closest to in this life was his mother.
His feelings for his mother were deeper than any other emotion.
So when he called Donna "Mom," there was no hesitation at all.
He even seemed more affectionate than Elizabeth.
After breakfast, the family of three loaded up the trunk with gifts from a nearby supermarket, then drove to Donna's place.
Located in a quiet spot in the busy city center, the small courtyard had been quite old originally, but after Simon renovated it, the place became much more lively.
Lively yet simple.
Last week, Alexander had ordered eighteen million dollars' worth of furniture to place in these traditional-style rooms, along with the plum blossom paintings that Violet had left behind.
Elizabeth was stunned.
"Mom! Grandma's paintings are actually so beautiful, so artistic!"
Donna smiled proudly. "Your grandma devoted her whole life to painting plum blossoms. She painted them her entire life, but no one appreciated her work."
Elizabeth said, "Mom, don't be sad. If Grandma's spirit in heaven sees you sad, she'll cry."
Donna nodded and smiled again. "These were all reframed and delivered by Simon this week. And you know what, these plum blossoms and this furniture really complement each other perfectly. With both of these things in this room, the whole place immediately feels so much more elegant."
Elizabeth could see it too.
"Yes, Mom. It's really wonderful."
Donna continued, "This week, many parents have come specifically to send their children here to learn piano. I've selected three or four promising students. I won't charge them, the goal is just to make Mom's little courtyard lively. What do you think?"
"That's the best idea, Mom." Elizabeth fully supported her mother's plan.
This way, Mom could enrich her own life.
Mom was only just over fifty this year. Her life shouldn't become monotonous.
"Those children, are they all ones you like?" Elizabeth asked.
Mom nodded. "Of course, they're all good prospects for learning piano."
"That you like them is the most important thing."
Mom added, "One of the parents even introduced me to a senior dance group, asking if I'd be willing to join when I have time."
Elizabeth immediately said with delight, "Of course you should join! Mom, I support you!"
Mom laughed. "Look how excited you are! That dance group just started. They probably won't actually begin practicing until half a month from now."
"It's never too late, Mom. You have such a good figure, and you can play piano and understand music. If you take up dancing, you'll definitely be great at it. Maybe..."
Elizabeth said half of what she wanted to say, then stopped.
She had wanted to ask her mother if there were any old men in the dance group.
But Elizabeth was afraid her mom would be embarrassed, so she didn't ask.
However, seeing her mother getting better day by day—her complexion improved, her skin much better, and her temperament very good—Elizabeth already had this idea in mind.
Although Elizabeth didn't mention it to her mother, that afternoon, after eating at her mom's place and returning home, when it was time to rest in the evening, Elizabeth did bring it up to her husband.
"Alexander, at your company, among those educated executives and such, are there any old men around fifty?" Elizabeth suddenly asked.
Alexander replied, "There are plenty of old men like that, a whole bunch of them, and they're all high-ranking and powerful. Why are you asking about this?"
"Are any of them widowers?"
Alexander fell silent.
He looked at Elizabeth with a very puzzled expression.
Elizabeth smiled, then said a bit embarrassed, "I just want to find a companion for my mom."
Alexander said, "What are you thinking about!"
"What! My mom is only fifty years old. Are you saying she should spend the rest of her life with no one to care for her or love her? Even old people have the right to fall in love, and besides, I don't think my mom is that old yet."
"Take that person, what's her name, Lila. She's about the same age as my mom, and she's still out there finding men behind Oliver's back."
Alexander fell silent.
"Find one for my mom, will you?"
Alexander said in a cold, low voice, "I need to complete my important task first!"
Seeing Alexander's serious expression, Elizabeth's heart skipped a beat. "What task?"
