42. Destroy His Reputation
**Sirius**
Melissa raised one of her eyebrows.
“Sirius, are you kidding? I don’t know what you’re planning but you remember that there is a squadron of knights that specialize in explosives, right? If you cause an explosion anywhere in Nightveil, they’ll be sure to trace it back to you.”
I took a chair from under her makeup table and placed it in front of her. After taking a seat, I placed my elbow on the armrest while the other rested on my thigh.
“Don’t worry, I remember,” I replied. “If I play my cards right, then they won’t be able to interfere.”
We sat in silence for a bit. Covering herself with a nearby blanket, Melissa sighs. “What do you have in mind?”
I smirked. “Do you recall when that dam was built close to Dragon Valley? And how my father was insistent on making sure that the walls of the dam were reinforced, despite some people being against using more money to pay for extra materials?”
“Well yeah, Dad was one of the people who liked the idea of adding more reinforcements to the dam.”
“Don’t don’t you think the dam breaking will cause a huge stir?”
Her face scrunched in confusion. “Okay, you have to explain this to me properly. Because how will some guy blowing up the dam affect the king? Everyone will want to know who did it and the focus will be more on them than on King Chester.”
“Then allow me to explain. Chester made such a fuss in order to get other aristocrats on his side that it made headlines. Everyone who’s anyone knows of the amount of money that was spent to strengthen the dam after it was built. Little did anyone know that I already sent to spread doubts in the people living in or near Dragon Valley. When I succeed in blowing up the dam, I’ll sway public opinion to make them believe that it was too easily destroyed. Wasn’t it meant to be stronger than that? What materials were used? Where did all that money go?”
Her mouth widened as she realized where I was going with this.
“They will suspect that he was lying and that he used the money for something else, like his own personal use!” Melissa smiled. “That’s so crazy it might actually work! But aren’t there a lot of people in Dragon Valley?”
I shook my head. My hand stroked my chin as I pretended to think. “Not a lot of people, most of them live on the side of the hills. And most of them work, so even if I do decide to destroy the dam there won’t be a lot of casualties.”
I crossed my legs, watching as Melissa pushed herself back until her back hit the headboard. Memories of the times she made *my* back hit the headboard.
“I guess it’s not that bad of an idea.” She tilted her head. “If I were you I would try and get a blueprint of it that has the materials listed. With that, you can find a weak point of some sort to target.”
“It would be ideal if I could figure out a way to get all the knights there to leave. It will be more troublesome if they’re there.”
“I think I might have a solution for you. Dean has a say in where the knights are stationed, correct? As far as I know, he’s single.”
I smirked. “Finding a replacement for me already?”
“Oh please! You know what I mean. Let me take care of Dean while you get your shit together.”
“Maybe I don’t know what you mean.” I got up from the chair and kneeled on the mattress. “Maybe I’m hurt and I need you to do something to make me feel better.”
She placed the base of her foot against my chest, slowly dragging it down my torso. “What have I told you about pulling that shit without telling me beforehand?”
I held her foot and kissed her big toe. “That if I do come here without telling, I should better make it worth it.”
“Exactly.”
Melissa grabbed my shirt and pulled me down until I lay between her legs.
We rolled around in bed, grabbing every inch of each other and stripping our clothes off when we couldn’t make skin contact.
Her lips are sweet, however, I probably shouldn’t tell her that a lot of people might die. She always makes this weird expression when one of my plans causes someone innocent to get hurt. I can’t imagine how she will react when she finds out that our plan will result in the death of hundreds of people who have nothing to do with us.
That’s what drew me to her in the first place. She’s unpredictable, yet shields her true thoughts behind a sheer mask. It doesn’t hurt that her parents maintain high positions in our government. The only thing stopping me from being with her romantically was that I didn’t love her and she didn’t love me. We know our limits and we’re more than willing to remain within our boundaries.
After we were done, Melissa had fallen asleep. I held her from behind, my face braced against the back of her neck. The room was cold enough to cool down my heated skin.
As comfortable as I was, what that stranger said kept resurfacing in my mind. My jaw clenched. How dare they insinuate that I needed them to stand still just so that I could land a hit on them? I’m a skilled fighter trained by the greatest knights! A person as lowly as them probably doesn’t even know what proper summoned armor looks like. The audacity of that stranger.
As for that girl, she probably fled the city. I shouldn’t worry about her. Even if she runs her mouth no one will believe her anyway. A cult member claiming that the beloved prince of their country wants their head? What a joke.
With a newfound smile, I kissed the back of Melissa’s neck and let sleep consume me.
