Chapter 288 — The Miracle Within
Chapter 288 — The Miracle Within
“Camila!”
Matthew’s voice broke through the room like thunder, raw with fear as he caught her body just before it hit the ground.
For a terrifying second, everything slowed.
Her weight collapsed against him, limp and fragile, her face pale as snow. Matthew’s arms tightened around her instinctively, pulling her close as panic surged through his veins.
“Camila… look at me,” he whispered urgently.
But her eyes were closed.
Her breathing was shallow.
And in that moment, the powerful man who controlled empires felt completely helpless.
Without hesitation, Matthew scooped her into his arms and rushed out of the hotel.
The elegant dining hall that had once been filled with expensive laughter and polished smiles suddenly fell silent behind him. Guests turned their heads. Conversations stopped. Curious eyes followed his hurried steps.
But Matthew didn’t care.
Nothing mattered except the woman in his arms.
His heart pounded violently as he carried her outside, his mind racing with fear.
Behind him, his family hurried after him.
The guilt on their faces was impossible to ignore.
Carter quickly handled the hotel bill while the others followed close behind. Matthew’s mother and Bera walked nervously beside Andrew, who refused to leave his son alone during such a frightening moment.
They may not have liked Camila.
But seeing Matthew so devastated shook them deeply.
The ride to the hospital felt endless.
Matthew held Camila the entire time, whispering softly to her even though she remained unconscious.
“Stay with me, mon amour,” he murmured again and again.
When they finally arrived, doctors rushed her inside immediately.
Minutes turned into hours.
And every second felt unbearable.
Matthew remained by her side the entire time.
—
Soft beeping filled the quiet hospital room.
The sharp scent of disinfectant lingered in the air.
Slowly, Camila stirred.
Her eyelids fluttered as consciousness returned, the unfamiliar environment confusing her at first. The white walls, the steady rhythm of medical machines, the quiet footsteps of nurses moving outside the door—all of it slowly formed into clarity.
A hospital.
She was in a hospital.
Her eyes moved across the room, searching.
Then they stopped.
Matthew sat beside her bed, his posture rigid with tension. Dark shadows rested beneath his eyes, proof that he had not moved from that chair for hours.
The moment he saw her eyes open, relief flooded his face.
He leaned forward immediately, reaching for her hand.
“Mon amour,” he whispered, his voice trembling with emotion. “Thank God you’re awake.”
Camila blinked slowly, still trying to understand what had happened.
“What… happened to me?” she asked softly.
Her voice sounded weak and distant, even to her own ears.
Matthew gently brushed his thumb across her cheek.
“You fainted, ma douce,” he said quietly.
His gaze softened as he studied her face carefully.
“How are you feeling now?”
As he spoke, he signaled a nearby nurse to call the doctor.
Camila glanced around the room again.
Then she noticed something that made her slightly uncomfortable.
Matthew’s family stood near the door.
Their presence made her feel suddenly self-conscious.
A faint blush colored her cheeks.
“I’m feeling fine,” she said softly. “We can go home now.”
Matthew shook his head gently.
“Let the doctor examine you first,” he said. “They already took your blood for tests. The results will come soon.”
Before she could respond, the door opened.
A doctor entered the room with a nurse following closely behind.
Matthew stood and stepped aside, allowing them space to check on his wife.
The doctor approached the bed calmly.
“How are you feeling, Mrs. Vinci?” he asked kindly.
He checked her pulse, then listened carefully to her heartbeat with his stethoscope. He leaned slightly closer, examining her eyes and facial color.
“I feel fine now,” Camila replied quietly.
But her voice carried a hint of lingering unease.
The doctor nodded thoughtfully.
“That’s good,” he said.
Then he asked gently, “Have you experienced nausea or dizziness in the mornings recently?”
Camila frowned slightly.
“Not really,” she answered honestly.
Her brows furrowed in confusion.
“Why? Is something wrong, doctor?”
A flicker of worry passed through her voice.
The doctor smiled warmly.
“Nothing is wrong, Mrs. Vinci,” he said reassuringly.
Then he glanced at Matthew.
“In fact, I would say this is wonderful news.”
Matthew straightened slightly.
“Congratulations,” the doctor continued. “You’re pregnant.”
The words hung in the air.
For a moment, time seemed to freeze.
Matthew stared at the doctor.
Camila stared at him.
Neither of them spoke.
Then slowly, realization dawned.
Matthew’s expression changed first.
A bright smile spread across his face, filled with pure amazement and overwhelming joy. His eyes shone as he looked at the woman lying in the hospital bed.
But Camila’s reaction was very different.
Her face remained filled with disbelief.
“That’s… not possible,” she whispered.
Her voice carried confusion and a quiet sadness.
“After my miscarriage, I was told I might never be able to conceive again.”
The memory of that painful time still lingered deep inside her heart.
The doctor nodded understandingly.
“Miracles do happen, Mrs. Vinci,” he said gently.
“Your previous medical reports did show damage to the uterus. However, it seems the tissue has healed significantly.”
He smiled reassuringly.
“Your healthy lifestyle and proper care likely helped your body recover. It’s a remarkable development.”
Camila’s shoulders slowly relaxed.
The tension she had been carrying for so long seemed to melt away.
Hope replaced doubt.
“I do recommend that we take extra precautions,” the doctor added carefully. “I’ll refer you to a highly experienced OB-GYN who specializes in cases like yours.”
He nodded politely to both of them.
“I wish you both the very best, Mr. and Mrs. Vinci.”
With that, he left the room.
Silence followed.
Matthew turned immediately toward Camila.
Tears had begun to fill her eyes.
Concern flashed across his face.
He rushed to her bedside and gently cupped her face in his hands.
“Mon amour… what’s wrong?”
His voice was soft, filled with worry.
Camila swallowed.
Her hand slowly moved to rest over her stomach.
“I just…” she whispered.
Her voice trembled.
“I can’t believe the universe could be this kind to me.”
Tears slipped down her cheeks.
“To give me something I thought I would never have.”
Matthew’s heart tightened.
Emotion surged through him.
He leaned down and pressed a tender kiss to her forehead.
“You’re an angel, ma belle,” he murmured.
“Of course, life would bless you with a miracle.”
He brushed away her tears gently.
“But no more crying,” he added softly. “Only smiles from now on.”
Then his gaze shifted toward the people standing quietly behind him.
His family.
His expression hardened immediately.
“And no more negativity,” Matthew said firmly.
His voice carried quiet authority.
“If anyone cannot accept my wife’s happiness, then they have no place in our lives.”
The room fell silent.
Matthew’s mother stepped forward slowly.
Her expression was filled with regret.
“I’m sorry,” she said softly.
Her voice trembled slightly.
“I’m sorry, Matthew. And Camila… I’m sorry to you too.”
She lowered her gaze briefly.
“I shouldn’t have said those cruel things.”
Then she looked up again.
“But now that we know you’re carrying our family’s heir… I promise to support you.”
Her voice softened.
“Camila, I will give you the world.”
Matthew’s father stepped forward next.
“We made mistakes,” he admitted.
“But this child… this child is a new beginning.”
He looked at Camila sincerely.
“We will never make you cry again.”
Matthew’s brother nodded.
“No matter what, we are family,” he said.
“This baby brings hope to all of us.”
Bera stepped forward as well.
“Camila, we truly want the best for you and your child,” she added.
“This baby is important to all of us.”
Camila glanced at Matthew.
Their eyes met.
Both of them silently questioned the sudden change in the room.
Just hours earlier, these same people had humiliated her.
Now they spoke with warmth.
It felt sudden.
Almost too sudden.
Still, today was supposed to be a happy moment.
Matthew exhaled slowly.
“This is your last chance,” he said firmly.
“If Camila ever cries because of any of you again…”
His voice lowered.
“I will cut ties with this family.”
His mother quickly nodded.
“That will never happen.”
She approached the bed and gently touched Camila’s hair.
“From now on, I will take care of you like my own daughter.”
Her tone sounded sincere.
“Just focus on being happy… and protecting our grandchild.”
Camila managed a small smile.
But deep inside, her thoughts remained complicated.
She could not ignore the feeling that their sudden kindness was driven by the baby she carried.
Still…
At least they were finally accepting her.
Matthew noticed the faint smile on her lips.
Relief filled his chest.
Her happiness meant everything to him.
Without caring that his family stood nearby, he leaned forward and kissed her deeply.
“I love you, mon amour,” he whispered softly.
His eyes searched hers with complete sincerity.
“You are the best thing that has ever happened to me.”
Camila looked at him with shining eyes.
Love filled her gaze.
And in that moment…
Matthew felt like he had conquered the entire world.
Because he had her.
