We'll be together forever
Charlotte
The sounds of battle were already giving way to howls of celebration and victory. I was dragging my blood-stained paws across the damp forest floor, then I stopped and sat down, trying to understand the absence of my feelings after taking my own mother's life. How could I have done it so coldly, without even the slightest hint of hesitation? It was so different from the first time I had to take another wolf's life to survive, this was my mother, and I couldn't feel anything for her. I wondered if my emotions were so disconnected as part of Aurora's wolves if I too would stop loving Logan and Fenrir like I stopped loving my mother, and then I panicked.
My body trembled at the thought of looking into Fenrir's beautiful eyes and not seeing my precious pup there, just any other wolf, or looking at Logan's smile and not feeling that delicious chill in my stomach. I lay down on the floor and closed my eyes tightly, begging the Goddess not to take those feelings away from me. A warm, gentle touch on my cheek made me open my eyes, before me a white translucent figure floated, she pointed in the direction of the river and the deer from earlier appeared, as well as other animals. They all seemed to mirror my feelings.
"My feelings affect them all," I concluded and looked again at the figure before me. She pointed to the creatures that were dying due to the constant battles and the hunting of the invaders. "So that's it."
Tears streamed down my face as I understood what the Goddess was showing me. I had accepted my fate the moment I chose to save Logan's life. A trade was made, he would live and I would be the Aurora wolf that the Goddess needed me to be, to protect her children and maintain order.
I pulled myself together before going back to where Logan was. When I arrived, I saw him grabbing Gabriel by the neck and lifting him, his claws digging into Gabriel's stomach as he screamed and struggled.
"Spare my life! I beg you! It was that damned she-wolf, she tricked me! I beg you, my king!" his cries were laughed at by all Logan's soldiers, for they only showed how weak Gabriel was. Logan noticed me, but I didn't look away. Logan analyzed me carefully before dragging his hand down, ripping Gabriel's body apart, and letting his organs spill out onto the floor. Everyone around vibrated with victory, howling and jumping everywhere.
Logan approached and wiped my face with his arm, preventing the blood on his hands from dirtying me even more. Everyone begins to return to camp, Logan takes a few steps back and I watch his big back getting further and further away from me. Emptiness consumes me and a sob escapes me, drawing his attention.
"Charlotte?" he says, but I only smile in response. Logan's eyes become frantic and he rushes back to me. "Don't even think about shit like that!"
"I can't run away from who I am, Logan," I say, trying to keep my voice calm, but the tears get in the way. "I made a trade and I'll never regret the choice I made."
"She doesn't have that right!" I moved closer to Logan and rested my head on his chest.
"When Fenrir fulfills his destiny, we'll be together again." I looked into his beautiful, sparkling blue eyes and touched his muzzle with mine. "I love you, Logan." I turned my back and ran into the forest, without stopping, my heart beating so hard I thought it would explode, but I knew I couldn't stop, or I'd run back into the arms of the wolf who had become my greatest friend.
Logan
Even with the victory, the feeling that predominated among everyone was one of defeat. My enemies had been destroyed, there was no longer any threat, and those who had helped them had been punished with death, but I had lost what was most valuable to me, I had lost my Luna. No one said anything on the way back, but their confused looks were obvious.
A Luna never abandons her alpha, she doesn't have that power, but the Goddess took her away from me in the same way she put her there. The pain and anger were consuming me and growing with every step I took, further away from where Charlotte was. I wanted to destroy that damn forest and everything that lived in it so that Charlotte could come back and be by my side, as she should be.
We arrived at the castle, and Fenrir and Lia were waiting for us. They both looked relieved at first, but as we got closer and they didn't see Charlotte, their gazes became frightened. Fenrir ran up to us, stopping in front of me and looking around. That puppy, who Charlotte insisted looked like me, had nothing but the same appearance as me. His strength and determination, his audacity and intelligence, his patience and quick thinking, all which Fenrir had inherited from his mother, as well as his expressive eyes, even when he tried to hide his feelings.
"Where is my mother? Why isn't she by your side, like Luna should be?" Fenrir kept his voice loud and firm, as I had taught him.
"She's not coming back," I said simply, walking past him. Lia looked at me with her hands over her mouth. "She's alive, but she can't come back," I said as I passed her, then entered the castle.
There were things to be sorted out, but I couldn't deal with any of them at the moment. I locked myself in my old room and began to break down everything in front of me, everything that reminded me of Charlotte and how she had given herself to me so many times in that place. The shame of having allowed someone to hurt me and why Charlotte was forced to make that deal with the Goddess, just to save my miserable life. I didn't want to live without her by my side anymore, it didn't make sense to me.
I spent days in that room. Lia would come and try to get me out, saying that Fenrir refused to eat or that he was destroying everything. When I decided to leave, I saw him in the training camp, fighting one of my best soldiers.
"The young man has a lot of potential," my commander said. "With the right training, he can fulfill his destiny and become the next great Alpha King."
At that moment, I understood Charlotte's words. I went down to the training ground and took the soldier's place. "You're doing it wrong, son." Fenrir frowned at me.
"I'm not a cub," he said angrily.
"Then prove it." I challenged him, and Fenrir tried again and again to attack me.
The day passed quickly, and Fenrir was lying on the ground, exhausted. "Get up, you're my son, you can't get tired with light training like this." Fenrir then sat up and looked at me expectantly. "Tomorrow we'll start early, have Lia feed you properly." Fenrir's eyes lit up and he ran inside without saying another word.
A feeling of familiar warmth and the scent of white flowers surrounded me, I looked up at the hill and there she was, watching us from a distance, and then she disappeared again.
The years went by and I went back to sleep in my old room. One night with a red moon, the night breeze came into the room, waking me up. I went to the window and saw Charlotte outside. She didn't say anything, just watched me. I jumped out of the window and walked over to her, my body vibrated, my arms and legs started to change into legs and I fell to the floor with them.
"I would never be able to separate two predestined souls." a voice echoed through the night as Charlotte and I ran into the dense forest of Reims.
Fenrir
After my father disappeared, I had to prove myself worthy several times over to be his successor as King Alpha, one of those tests was to finally reunite all the kingdoms, making me not just a mere king, but the most feared and powerful emperor. From the top of the highest hill I could see beyond the tall treetops, I could see all the territory over which my father had reigned and now belonged to me, growing and prospering like never before.
"My lord." the commander, who had before served my father, approached, kneeling before me. "We have received word that the bride you were promised will soon arrive in the capital of the empire."
I didn't react at all to this information, especially as it was merely a political marriage with the people overseas so that peace could be made and I would be forced not to attack them as I wished.
"So be it, as long as she looks good and begets an heir soon." The soldier smiled and I was instantly annoyed. "Do you think something I said was funny?" he immediately pulled himself together.
"I'm sorry, my lord. It just reminded me of your father."
I looked back at my empire, but my gaze was drawn elsewhere, where a large black wolf and a beautiful copper-colored she-wolf were watching us in silence. The she-wolf gave a short howl and they disappeared into the trees.
"It doesn't matter, as long as it's like theirs," I said aloud.
"Did you say something, Your Highness?" the commander asked, but I just turned and walked down the hill. The past no longer mattered, now I had to think only about what the Goddess had in store for my future.
