She-Wolf of Aurora

Charlotte

When I woke up, I felt the chill of the bed. I opened my eyes and realized I was alone in the wide bed. Sunlight shone through the window and illuminated the room in comforting hues. I searched for Logan but he was nowhere to be found. But, there was a perfectly arranged breakfast tray on the table next to the bed, tempting. I wondered if Lia or Logan had arranged this, but either way, not having to hurry to get dressed and go downstairs made me very happy.

After having my coffee, I quickly got dressed and went back to my room, changing out of my nightgown and into a simple, discreet dress. I felt uneasy about not seeing Lia, since she didn't mention any plans for this morning. I wanted to discuss our progress in breaking Logan's curse from the previous night, even if it was small. I hoped that Fenrir wouldn't have to be involved in the upcoming war.

The Goddess had revealed this glimmer of hope for some unknown reason, but I was still hesitant to cling to any ray of light, given the turmoil of recent events. Aiden could still use my son as a shield, forcing me to give up and join him in his absurd plan to become King Alpha and give him an heir. Only Logan, Lia, and Michael knew my true situation, excluding the doctor brought in to look after me at the time, which prevented that information from leaking out.

Aidem needed me to give him an heir, he wanted to take advantage of my lineage to secure his power in front of everyone. Even if I could conceive, I would never do it by free choice, and they knew it. It terrified me how far he and Diane would be able to go, how deep they would be able to drag themselves, without valuing their pride as wolves, just to achieve a foolish and shallow revenge like that.

My thoughts led me to walk aimlessly through the corridors of the great castle, and it was then that I came across the door to the throne room ajar. Inside, Logan stood imposingly on his throne, which seemed small about his unique size as a Lycan. Michael stood beside him, his gaze fixed straight ahead, where a large man bowed in respect to his king. I pushed the door a little further, trying to understand the situation that was unfolding, but the noise it made drew everyone's attention. Logan didn't react at all, while Michael shook his head sideways. I took a step forward and bowed.

"Greetings to the mighty King Alpha," I said, keeping my head down.

"My Luna needs no such formalities," I raised my head and Logan had his hand out, inviting me to stand beside him, so I did. The majestic sight from the top of that small staircase could only be described as something fit for a King. The entire hall was visible, nothing could go unnoticed under the eyes of the Alpha King sitting on his throne.

The guy with his head down stood up and startled me. He surprised me too. I felt like I knew him, and then I realized we looked alike. We had the same hair, eyes, lips, and even skin color. That wolf in front of me was like me.

"That's Gabriel," said Michael, snapping me out of my confused thoughts. "He's the administrator of Moonrise Bay."

"The port city in the south?" I asked, trying to concentrate on the subject.

"Aiden had plans to escape through Moonrise Bay," Michael said, and at the same moment, I understood.

An escape by sea, taking only what was necessary to avoid attracting attention, just Diane and Fenrir. If he had succeeded, it would be impossible to find them again. My hands trembled as I realized, once again, that the Goddess would not allow us to enjoy full happiness. I lightly touched Logan's shoulder, drawing his attention.

"Is there any clue to your location?" I asked hopefully.

"If I may," the wolf in front of us said. "This wolf, Aiden, has been seen quite often by my subordinates, hanging around the dock, especially at night."

"He was testing security, trying to find out whether I was aware of what was going on in that town," Logan added.

"Aiden must still be near Moonrise Bay, Since King Alpha's soldiers are spread throughout the territory, it would be practically impossible to move around without being noticed," the wolf said.

That wolf seemed well-informed about the whole situation we were living in, and that Aiden was someone wanted for crimes. His posture was unwavering, and his eyes never wavered, staring at Logan for the entire time he was in that room. He was an ally of Logan's, but I couldn't tell if that alliance was recent or not.

"All right," said Logan, standing up. "Continue your investigations in Moonrise Bay, take as many soldiers as you think you need." Logan touched the base of my back, encouraging me to go ahead. "Michael, keep me informed."

"Yes, sir." Michael bowed his head and Gabriel imitated him, so we left the throne room and walked in silence to the office.

Logan sat behind his desk and a nervous feeling came over me. All the work I had done while Logan was away was on that desk and Logan would see it. I internally hoped that nothing had been left unfinished or had been a bad decision I had made. Logan read everything in silence, sheet by sheet, without looking at me once, and then he put the papers back on the table and held out his hand to me.

"I overloaded you while I was away," he said and I could only smile at his concern.

"Not at all, Lia and Michael helped me all the time. You could say that I only signed the documents because I was your Luna," I replied, a little embarrassed.

"I know you well enough to know that you would never leave so much work on the backs of those two." I felt my face heat up and my heart race. "You've done a great job, now you should focus on your lessons to become the Luna of the realm."

"About that wolf," I said, feeling strange again at the thought of Gabriel. "Why did you bring him from the south?"

"I had to check some things, but I also had to return because of the Blood Moon," Logan said. He grabbed a strand of my hair and brought it up to his nose, taking a deep breath with his eyes shut.

"I had a strange feeling when I saw him, I can't explain it exactly," he said, speaking a little more quietly than usual.

"Gabriel may have the blood of the Alphas from long ago, who governed this land before the Note and West invasions," Logan said calmly. But, my heart was unsettled, knowing that Gabriel was under investigation.

"Is it safe to trust someone like that?" I asked worriedly and Logan smiled.

"That's why he's here, I don't trust him. If he turns out to be a problem, I'll deal with it immediately, there's nothing to worry about." Logan seemed confident of his decision, so I decided that I would too.

The next few days passed and I was in the office, studying some papers when Gabriel entered the room. I hadn't seen him since the day I went to the throne room, so I believed he had long since left for the South. Gabriel stood in the doorway, staring at me as I worked and it made me very uncomfortable.

"Are you looking for something?" I asked and Gabriel took a few steps forward, standing on the other side of the table I was using.

"I heard that Luna grew up in the West," he said, but I didn't understand why he was saying something so random to me.

"Yes, that's true," I said, returning my focus to my work. "I was born and raised in a western pack, near the red earth mountains.

"What about your parents?" Gabriel asked, putting his hands behind his back. I didn't know where this meaningless conversation was going, but I wasn't interested in telling him anything about my life.

"My mother is a traitor, that's all you need to know," I replied bluntly.

"Your lineage..." he began, but I cut him off before he could continue.

"Sir, I don't know why you came in here without knocking and kept asking me these strange questions. Because of that, I ask you not to talk to me alone again, as Logan could misinterpret the situation." My voice became increasingly harsh as I spoke to Gabriel.

"I'd just like to get to know you better because we have a lot in common."

"We have absolutely nothing in common, sir," I said through my teeth, already irritated by the whole situation. "If you'll excuse me, I need to deliver these documents to our King.

I picked up the papers and walked towards the door. But, when I went past Gabriel, he tightly grabbed my arm while his eyes showed signs of distress.

"You smell like the She-Wolf of Aurora," I had no idea what Gabriel was talking about, but hearing the name of that possible pack made me dream of a place where I would fit in one day.
