Chapter 182: Harry and Carina

Chapter 182: Harry and Carina
As Carina got dressed that morning she paused and looked at herself in the mirror and sighed,

“When you meet this guy, the first thing you are going to tell him is that you are pregnant. Do you hear me?” she scolded herself then smiled, “Whether he’s turned off by that or not it’s none of our business. We don’t care anymore. You’re not afraid to do this alone like you used to be.”

After those words of encouragement she applied her makeup and got dressed up. It had been long since she rocked a black dress, so she slipped into a halter neck, bodycon black dress and let her silky brown hair down. She looked lovely that evening and when she took one last look at herself in the mirror she was taken aback by her own beauty. She put some jewelry on her wrists and neck and grabbed her purse, kissed her dog goodbye and off she went to the location, when she parked in the yard she texted the number to ask if he was already there.

“Yes, I’m here, but I’m fixing a little fault with my car, I will be in there in a jiffy please wait for me,” he replied.

Carina nodded as if he would see her nodding from the other end of the phone and got out of her car. She went straight to the reservation and sat down,
“Welcome ma’am,” a waitress said to her as she sat down. “Should I get you anything?”

“Water will be fine.” she replied. So the waitress walked away quickly to get her some water as Carina patiently waited for the waitress and her date, Harry walked in dressed in a black tuxedo with one hand in his pocket. He was almost close to his seat when his eyes met Carina's. It was like the world stopped as the two of them looked at each other.

For a second he wanted to turn around and walk away but he had promised Nathan to stay through the date. Once again he had been tricked by Nathan,
“Darn that guy” he cussed under his breath as he slowly sat opposite her.

She kept staring at him without also saying a word, she was trying not to get angry or cry, it was painful looking into the eyes of a man that you once called your husband and now he was a complete stranger or at most, your boss. As if they never had a history, and it was all because she messed up.

“Good evening, I’m sorry to keep you waiting.” he said.
“I haven’t been waiting for that long,” she replied, the waiter arrived with a tray of two glasses of water which was a surprise to Carina but she didn’t talk.

“Would you like to order something now?” Harry asked her.
“Yes, some ravioli won’t be bad.” she replied.

Harry nodded, “Same for me.”
Carina smirked as the waitress took their order,

“Will you take any wine?” Harry asked.
“No alcohol.” Carina replied.

For the first time Harry smiled, it meant that Carina kept their baby and that made him happy,
“Cranberry juice for the two of us.” he said as the waitress went away to get their order.

They both sat in silence before Carina broke it by clearing her throat, “before we go any further, I would like to inform you that I’m pregnant and not looking for a relationship.”
She looked up at him and he also looked up at her,
“Thank you for your honesty, the last girl I met wasn’t that honest. If she had told me earlier, you and I wouldn’t have been on this date.” Harry replied.

Carina nodded, “Trust me, I’ve been there before. I also didn’t tell the last man and I learned the hard way.”
“Man! Have you always been pregnant?” Harry remarked, making Carina burst out laughing.

“A few months ago I was pregnant but I lost it. I'm shocked that I got pregnant again but it’s a blessing. I contemplated getting rid of it, but after listening to the little heartbeat I changed my mind.” she replied.
Harry raised his eyebrows, “You listened to the heartbeat already? Why did you go without me?”

“Harry, we are strangers, remember?”
“How can we be strangers when you already have my baby?” he snapped.

“Well… I don’t know but you started this.” Carina replied.

“Is the baby okay? I will take you to the hospital so we can listen again. I don’t want to miss any chance with this baby and I don’t want us to lose this one too.”
“Does this mean that we will be a couple all over again?” she asked.

Harry was silent, then their meal was served, they both started to eat in silence. As they both pondered over their marriage and how it ended, maybe they were both meant to be together because their divorce should have ended everything so why were they expecting a baby now? Why were they here again? Maybe there was more to it.

“In my last marriage she kept secrets from me, she told others things she should have told me. I found out more from others what should have been a secret between us.” he said solemnly.

Carina slowly gulped her food, “My ex husband was a great guy, but in the last 8 months, I was too naive to appreciate him, I let fear and lies tear us apart. It hurts me to this day,”
“What were you afraid of?”

“Of not having a father for my baby. Of being alone, most importantly of losing you… I thought you would walk out once you found out that the baby wasn’t yours.”

“What gave you that impression?”
“You gave me that impression, you never stopped talking about a divorce since the day we got married, what was I supposed to think?”
Harry looked down at his food, he was realising how they both murdered their marriage with their own hand

“The last time I got pregnant it was for the wrong man, now that I’m pregnant again I don't know what to think. Harry, tell me: are you the right man?” she asked.
He glared at her, reluctant to answer her question.
