Chapter 68 SIXTY NINE
EMILY’S POV
Wake up!!!
Emily, wake up!!!!
Emily groaned, shutting her eyes tight at the panicked voice screaming in her head.
She tried to hold her head, but something was stopping her.
Alarmed, she opened her eyes, the bright light momentarily blinding her.
She blinked rapidly, before shutting her eyes closed.
Who in their right mind would set the lights to this volume she thought, taking in a deep breath.
Slowly, she opened her eyes again, her eyes, slowly adjusting to the cage she was in.
Emily didn’t know if the lights were affecting her eyes, because everything was infrared.
She sighed, looking down at herself.
Panicked, Emily tried to stand.
She was in her wolf form. At the realization, everything suddenly came back to her.
The glass tube, Chiara, and their merging.
Where was she?
Was the merging successful?
“It was,” Chiara answered.
“Where are we?”Emily thought.
“I don’t know, but I remember some people carrying us here.”
“Our mate was there, but he was really injured.”
“Mate?” Probably Roman.
“Our babies, how are they?” Emily asked Chiara.
“They are fine,” Chaira says excitedly. “I am carrying them now for you.”
“I promise to keep them safe and also deliver them safely,” Chaira told her.
Any sign of weakness, gone from her voice.
Emily sighed out in relief, before frowning at the thought of Roman injured.
She was in the glass cage Rachel had shown her earlier.
From what she gathered, only aggressive or still in probation experiments were kept here.
She was fine, and has successfully merged with her phone.
Why then, was she here?
She snapped her head up at the sound of voices.
Some researchers she had not seen before were looking at her as they spoke among themselves.
Emily couldn’t hear what was said, the glass as Rachel had also explained, was designed to contain a werewolf, and its abilities.
She felt trapped, and like a displayed artifact at a museum or in this case, Anthony’s underground experiments zone.
Is there anything you can remember, before they brought us here? She asked Chiara.
Hum! The room we were in was seriously destroyed.
I also remember our mate petting our head.
Emily sighed, unsatisfied with Chaira’s answer.
Something had happened, she really needed to know what.
Now that she was fully merged, Emily would have tried to mentally connect with Roman, but the cage she was in was cutting off that connection.
How long had they been here she thought.
They had told Alpha Castor three days, she didn’t know how long she was in the glass for.
From the little she knew of her father, he would search for them if they didn’t return back to the pack.
“Stop thinking,” Chiara wined.
“All this thinking is hurting my brain.”
“We need to rest more.”
“I am trying to read the properties this glass is made off, so I can bypass it.”
“Can you do that?” Emily asked in surprise.
“Now that I am fully merged, I can do a lot of things.”
“We are stronger than you think,” Chiara says.
Emily yawned, closing her eyes. There was nothing she could do for now, except rest like Chiara had suggested.
By the time she woke up again, Roman was staring at her through the glass.
Emily stood up quickly, wagging her tail happily at the sight of him.
She moved closer to the glass, observing Roman who had a sad look on his face.
She frowned, tilting her head to the side as she wondered what was wrong.
He was saying something, but Emily couldn’t hear him, and that frustrated her.
Growling, she banged on the glass door, trying to alert Roman to her presence.
Roman shaked his head, tears streaming down his face as he gazed at her.
Panicked, Emily kept banging on the glass.
She was restless, and the thought of Roman thinking the experiment had failed gawked at her.
Researchers barged towards her cage, barging orders from what Emily could tell.
Emily barged on the glass harder now, snarling at them.
She didn’t know what else to do, but the situation reminded her of how helpless Killian probably had felt.
From the wall, something darted out, shaped like a gun.
Emily glanced at the foreign object, wondering what it was.
Before she could move towards it, it shot at her, dart syringes plunging into her furs.
She felt the slight pinch from it, before whatever the dart contained started taking effect.
Emily tried to move towards Roman, her limps, heavy and weak.
She collapsed to the floor, struggling to keep her eyes open.
She could see Roman staring at her through the glass, his eyes filled with deep sadness.
She vowed to find a way out, before falling unconscious again.
“Wake up!!!”
“We only have a couple minutes so wake up.”
Emily opened her eyes, coughing loudly.
She was lying close to a river bank, Chiara leaning over her body as she shook her awake.
Emily coughed again, before slowly sitting up with the assistance of Chiara.
“Where are we?” she croaked out, looking around.
“Our matés consciousness,” Chiara told her, before standing up.
“Whatever that glass is made of is strong, but I was able to buy us some time.”
“We need to find Roman, and let him know that the experiment was successful.”
“I tried to change back,” Emily asked, also getting up. “Why couldn’t I?.”
Chiara sighed, before walking forward.
“During the merge, we sustained minor injuries mentally. I have been trying to heal us, and have successfully done so.”
“You can change to your human form, but I would advise that we find time to fully be in our wolf form.”
“That way, I can cross check and heal any other place that might have been damaged.”
“Why didn’t you tell me?” Emily asked, stopping Chiara.
“You had a lot going on.”
Emily sighed.
“Look Chiara, we are fully formed now, that means no hiding things, even if you think it’s for my sake.”
“We need to trust each other, and that can only be achievable if we tell ourselves everything.”
“Is that clear?” Emily asked, waiting for Chiara’s response.
Chiara smiled sheepishly, before nodding her head.
“It’s going to take some getting used to, but I hope you can understand and bear with me.”
“I have been alone for a long time, and used to doing everything myself.”
“It’s going to take a while to get used to sharing.”
Emily nodded her head.
It was understandable, and she promised to do everything she could to make Chiara know that she wasn’t alone anymore.
Together they walked around, trying to navigate the confusing dynamics of Roman’s consciousness.
“Look, that's him,” Chiara says happily, pointing to a figure sitting at the edge of a cliff.
“We need to get to him.”
“We don’t have a lot of time left.”
“Let’s go,” Emily told her, walking towards the figure.
Roman!! Emily called out urgently, closer to where he was.
Roman!!!!!! Chiara called too.
Roman turned back, he came closer to where they were, his eyes widening at the sight of her.
“What are you doing here?” he asked, shifting back at the sight of her and her identical twin Chiara.
“I came to find you. That’s Chiara," she told him, pointing towards Chiara who was shying standing behind her.
Chiara was a lot of things, but shy? wasn't one of them.
Chiara!! Roman breathes out starstruck. He moved closer to her, before running his hands over her cheeks.
“How is this possible?” he asked, turning towards Emily.
“Wait! How are you here right now?”
“We don’t have a lot of time,” Emily says. “The experiment was successful, I have been trying to tell you that.”
“The glass hinders us from connecting to you.”
“I can’t hold it off anymore,” Chiara interjected, groaning in pain.
“What is wrong with her?” Roman asked, kneeling beside Chiara.
“It’s the glass,” Chiara says, "you need to get us out of there.”
Before they could say more.
Emily, woke up.
