Chapter 67 SIXTY EIGHT
EMILY’S POV
I screamed as I landed on a soft bed, gasping in shock and panic.
What was going on?
Who had pushed me?
Emily blinked, bright light illuminating her surroundings.
She was in a room, that much was clear.
How? Was another question.
The last thing she remembered was entering the glass tub.
Was the experiment successful?
Or had it failed and she was dead?
Groaning, Emily slowly stood up from the bed, screaming fearfully at the sight of a body crouched down beside her.
She couldn’t tell who it was.
But the quiet sniffle coming from the figure made Emily uneasy.
Hello!!! Emily called out, moving a bit closer to the figure.
The sniffles stopped, before resuming again.
Hello!!! Are you ok? Emily asked louder, stretching her hands out to the figure's shoulder.
The figure raised her head up, making Emily gasp in shock.
Her mirror image was looking back at her, its face very pale, with blood dripping from its eyes.
Quickly Emily moved back, trying to understand what she was seeing.
“Who are you?” she asked, moving further back.
“It’s me,” her second whispered out, “don’t you remember?” she asked, moving close to Emily.
“Uhm!! I don’t,” Emily whispered back.
It was obvious she was dreaming, if not, how do she explain this withered version of her.
“It’s me, Chaira,” her second croaked out.
Emily paused her movement.
“Her wolf Chiara?”
What happened to her? Emily thought, staring at Chiara.
“Are you ok?” Emily asked her, moving closer.
“It’s cold and lonely,” Chaira responded, shaking slightly.
“You have to help me,” she cried out, clinging on to Emily’s arm.
“I am trying,” Emily told her.
Suddenly everything started shaking badly.
Emily didn’t know what was going on, but from Chaira frightened look, this had happened before.
She took Chaira’s hands, before running out of the room.
Together they both ran out to the empty hallway.
Everywhere was scattered, debris falling around from the shaking of the building.
“Do you know any where we could hide out?”Emily screamed out, facing Chiara.
Chiara nodded, before running forward.
Quickly Emily followed behind, dodging debris from the building.
Chiara led her outside, towards a thick forest.
Emily glanced back, watching as the building they were in not too long ago collapsed.
They moved further into the forest, before stopping in front of a run down hut.
Chiara glanced back at her, smiling softly, before entering into the hut.
Emily glanced around nervously, before following her.
The inside of the hut was just as bad as the outside.
Everything was old and run down, a single bed pushed to the far corner.
“Where is this?”Emily asked awkwardly.
“My home,” Chiara answered, sitting down on the bed.
“How long have you been here?”Emily pitifully asked.
“I can’t remember,” Chiara whispered out.
Looking at Chaira now, she looked so frail, not like the strong voice occasionally popping out in her head.
Emily wondered what had happened to put her in this state.
She sat down on the bed, a bit farther from Chaira.
“What now?” Emily asked.
She couldn’t tell how she came here, or even how to go back.
“I don’t know,” Chaira told her, glancing down at her bulging stomach.
“Can I touch them?” she asked, her eyes flickering between looking at Emily and her stomach.
“Yes,” Emily told her, smiling softly.
Chiara stretched out her hands, before slowly placing it on her stomach.
She gasped as her babies kicked at her hands, before giggling.
They discussed for a while, before Emily dozed off.
Emily blinked, coughing at how dry her throat was.
She looked around, her eyes widening at the sight of Roman.
She was back in the glass tub, Roman was currently arguing with Rachel, while Anthony was discussing with one of the researchers.
Hello!!! Emily croaked out weekly.
She coughed again, the sound coming out weak even to her own ears.
Emily sighed out, before falling unconscious again.
This time around when she woke up, she was back in Chaira’s run down hut.
Chiara herself was nowhere in sight.
Emily stood up, before going outside.
She needed to understand what was going on, and how to successfully complete the experiment.
From her calculations, she was in both her and Chaira’s consciousness.
Now all she needed to do was find a way to merge them together.
Chiara was outside, clearing the area around the hut.
She looked up at Emily, smiling at her, before continuing what she was doing.
“Chiara,” Emily called, “can I speak to you for a moment.”
Chiara nodded her head, before coming closer to her.
“We have a problem,” Emily told her bluntly.
“What is it?” Chaira asked.
“We need to merge,” Emily told her. “Without that, I can’t give birth to our babies successfully.”
“I don’t know how to go about that, so if you know how, you need to let me know.”
“Are they going to die?”Chaira asked, pointing at her stomach.
“We are not going to let that happen.”
“Are you the only one here?”Emily asked Chaira who was staring at her stomach worriedly.
“As far as I know,” Chaira told her. “The ugly dark mist comes sometimes, anytime I try to talk to you.”
Emily could only imagine how lonely it must have been for Chiara all this while.
“Dark mist?” She asked, trying to figure out what Chiara meant.
“Yes,” Chiara mumbles out, looking around as if the dark mist would suddenly appear.
“Do you know where this black mist comes from?” Emily asked.
“No,” Chaira told her. “It comes, and then just suddenly disappears, It only comes when I try to make contact.”
Emily didn’t say anything, deep in thought. Was the drugs acting as the black mist Chiara was talking about, or was there something else at play.
“Can we try something?” she asked Chiara.
“Sure,” Chaira mumbles out.
Emily sat down cross legged, prompting Chaira to do the same.
She stretched out her hands, taking Chaira’s own in hers.
I want you to close your eyes, and try to connect with me mentally.
Chaira nodded, before breathing out.
She closed her eyes, before Emily closed hers.
Emily searched her mind, trying to find her connection to Chiara.
Now that they were closer, it was a lot easier.
She could see the energy swirling around Chaira.
Emily tapped into that energy, drawing it into her own.
Her skin was bustling with electricity.
She could smell the earth more clearly, the air around her, brushing softly against her skin.
Emily gasped in surprise.
So this was what it felt like to be in tone with your wolf.
Suddenly, Chiara screamed, the connection between them broken.
Emily opened her eyes, scrambling to her feet as thick dark mist wedged itself between her and Chaira.
Before she could do anything, the dark mist dragged Chaira away.
Emily followed behind, running faster as Chiara screams alerted her to where the mist was dragging her to.
Emily ran faster, what she needed to do was clearer in her mind.
She spotted Chaira, struggling viciously against the dark mist.
Her energy, colliding with that of the mist.
Emily moved closer, pushing her own energy forward. She didn’t know how she was doing it, but it was as if her body and mind suddenly knew what to do.
The mist left Chiara for a while, giving Emily enough opportunity to join their hands together.
“Do not let go no matter what,” she screamed at Chaira.
“Open your mind to me, let me in," Emily told her, before joining their hands together.
Chaira nodded, clasping Emily’s hands tighter in hers.
Emily closed her eyes, pushing all her energy towards Chaira, with Chaira also doing the same.
The mist roared, the ground shaking violently.
The dark mist slammed into them, throwing them to the floor, yet they both held on tighter, merging their energy together.
Emily could see the exact moment it happened, their bodies merging together.
They both let out painful screams, as their bodies forcefully formed as one.
Emily could feel her body cracking, her head splitting open as a thick strong jaw protruded from her chin.
Her legs elongated, forming strong hind legs.
Emily can’t tell how long the painful transformation took, but finally, she was fully merged.
“Are you there?” Emily questioned.
“Am here,” Chiara responded.
Emily shaked her fur out, before howling loudly.
Sudden pain rings through her brain, the force of it, rendering her unconscious.
