Chapter 161 Chapter one hundred and sixty one
ROMAN’S POV

I stared at the moonlight from the small window up ahead. It was almost midnight, and Rachel had spent almost the whole day perfecting her little experiment.

My back was pressed against a metal chair, the coldness seeping into my bare back.

Sighing, I tear my eyes away from the moonlight, looking around the room.

Rachel was bent over, looking at something in a transparent glass. The rest of the room was filled with different equipments. Rachel had turned it into a mini lab.

“How is going? Are you sure this is going to work?” I asked Rachel, shifting on my seat.

She turned towards me slightly, jolting down on her journal. “Well, science is all about trials and errors. I am trying my best here Roman, from my calculations it’s an eighty percent success but till we test it, we can’t be too sure.”

I nodded my head, staring at my hands filled with different wires or was it tubes Rachel called them? Whichever, I just hoped that what we were about to try would work.

I looked up as Castor entered, Alpha George behind him.

Thankfully, that prick Omar wasn’t here.

“Is everything ready?” Castor asked, pacing slowly around the room.

“Yes, how is the prisoners?” Rachel asked, a slight tremor in her voice.

Castor stopped pacing, turning to face Rachel. “They are fine for now, although your mate is a piece of shit.”

I chuckled, shaking my head. It’s ironic really, I mean who would have thought that Rachel’s mate would be one of the hunters we had captured. I had insisted on bringing them onboard the ship, as insurance though it was starting to become clear that Zed wouldn’t care for his hunters back. If at all, I believe he would kill them.

“Rachel, I don’t want you to get your hopes up with this hunter, especially since he is adamant about not being your mate. And with everything going on, we don’t know where he stands, or if he is even going to survive.” Castor says gently.

Rachel smirked, walking towards me. “I am not a fool, moreover, for all his ranting, he didn’t reject the mate bond. I mean that counts for something right?”

Alpha George laughed out, drawing my attention towards him. “What….,” he says at the look I threw him. “I like her, she is feisty.”

“Anyways,” Rachel drawled out. “The purpose of this experiment is to try to mentally connect with Emily. If I am right, something is blocking Chaira from reaching out, but since I have my own little implant, i could activate Emily’s Mental connection. Whatever happened days ago, gave the implant enough opportunity to properly insert itself into Emily’s body. Which is to my advantage.”

“This implant, can it turn against Emily?” I asked, cutting off Rachel. I mean I trust Rachel, but that implant was inside Emily, and from what Rachel is explaining, it does a whole lot. I had simply thought it was a location implant that could be removed, but infusing with Emily’s body, that could seriously be disastrous in the wrong hands.

“I understand why you might feel this way, but I assure you it won’t. And yes, I also have a way to remove it if it’s purpose is no longer needed. Are you rest assured now?”

“Rachel, are you absolutely sure this implant can’t be discovered by Zed?” Alpha George asks. “I mean who knows the kind of equipment Zed has at his disposal, he would be conducting different experiments on Emily. Are we sure this implant hasn’t be discovered yet?

“Well, I don’t think so,” Castor says. “If Zed has discovered the implant, then he would know what it does, and by now would have made sure he dug into Emily to drag the implant out.”

“Like I say, it’s not a chip.” Rachel says. “If it was, believe me Zed would have found it by now. It’s an organism, according to how I created it, it’s like a mimic, blending itself with Emily’s genetic makeup. It’s going to be hard to figure out.”

I stared at Rachel, at the proud smile on her face as she talked about her creation, and for a moment I felt this fear. She could easily be Zed, a mad scientist, trying to create something monstrous.

“Hopefully, Zed never figures out about the implants.” I murmured. “I am just worried, I keep thinking about what happened days ago, whatever he did to Emily, her reaction was strong, I just hope we find the same Emily.”

“Emily is strong.” Rachel says, taking my arm in hers as she slowly injected something into me. “And whatever Zed did, gave us this opportunity to be able to infiltrate into Emily’s consciousness. In the next ten seconds, you are slowly going to enter into limbo. While you are there, try to find Emily. You have 20 minutes before I am pulling you back, understood?”

I nodded my head, leaning back comfortably against the metal chair.

With eyes half open, I stared at the moonlight, the blue of it so intense, the calm light slowly drawing me in.

“Roman…., Roman…”

I jolt awake.

I was laying on the side of a riverbank, everywhere was dark, except the bright rays of the moonlight reflecting on the river surface.

What happened?

Where am I?

“Roman……”

I turned at the sound of my name, sighing in relief at the grey wolf in front of me.

“Ronan, I am so glad to see you. Where are we?”

“Come, we don’t have much time, and for where we are, this is limbo.”

I followed him, taking in my surroundings.

I was in a forests, a beautiful forest. The rays of the moonlight reflected on the trees, making everything shine.

“How do I find Emily?” I asked Ronan, looking around.

“I don’t know, but I can feel Chaira, although something keeps blocking me out. We need to bypass whatever it is, before our time runs out.”

I nodded my head, frowning a bit. “But how, how can we bypass whatever it is? I asked.

Ronan stopped walking, turning towards me.

“That’s why we are here, we need to figure it out.”

I don’t know how long we walked, till we came across a clearing. There was a huge silver cage placed in the middle, inside was a Red wolf.

Chaira…… I cried out, running towards the cage. Immediately I touched the cage, I was thrown back, my back hitting the huge tree behind me painfully.

I groan, grimacing as I clutched my arching ribs.

What the fuck?

Ronan walked towards me, his paws on my face.

“Get up, we don’t have much time.”

“What the hell just happened?” I asked, dragging myself up.

“That should be what has been holding Chaira. We need to find a way to break that cage.”

I stared at the cage, at my mate inside, helpless.

I walked forward, bracing myself.

Once again I ran towards the cage, and was flown back again and again, till I finally gave up.

I spat out the blood in my mouth, wincing at the throbbing pain coming from my ribs and back.

“I don’t know what to do?” I whisper, unable to
Stop the tears flowing down my face.

“I think we are going about this the wrong way. We both need to try going towards the cage. Together we are stronger, more powerful.”

I nodded, turning to face Ronan. I lifted my hands, Ronan lifting up his paws, together we merged, becoming one. I could feel the burst of energy running through me, i shaked my furs, staring at the cage in determination.

With a loud rowl, I run towards the cage, slamming my body hard against it. This time around, i could feel the cage crack a bit.

Chaira looked up, blinking at the sight of me.

“Chaira…, can you hear me.”

“Yes, I can.” She answered weakly.

“I need you to push back again the cage, do you understand, we need to do this together.”

Chaira nodded, I moved back a bit, before slamming hard against the cage.

Finally, the cage split into two.

I ran towards Chaira, licking her face.

“Roman, Emily’s in pain, we need to help her. I don’t know how long I have before I am jailed again.”

Before I could say anything, the ground starts shaking.

“What’s happening?” Chaira cried out, looking around.

“Its Rachel, my 20 minutes is over.”

I pressed my head against Chaira’s, sending a message through her to Emily, before I was crudely yanked out.

I gasped, coughing loudly as I tried to breathe.

“Hey, hey…, breathe in, then slowly breathe out.” Rachel says, leaning closer to me.

I did as she instructed.

“How was it?” Castor asked, “where you able to reach Emily?”

“I don’t know.” I whispered out, “before we could I was yanked out, I don’t know if I successfully reached her.”

Everyone was silent, each of us processing what just happened.
