Chapter 159 Chapter one hundred and fifty nine
ROMAN’S POV

It was a second, merely a second.

I felt the mental connection between me and Emily, my name whispering softly inside my head, and just before I could answer, do anything, it was close shut again, and no matter how hard I tried I couldn’t connect to Emily.

I sighed out loudly, staring at the thick bodies of water below me.

That tiny brief connection was all I had for weeks now, but I was clinging onto it.

Wait for me Emily. Please, I will find you no matter what.

“Luna Roman.”

I turned. Standing behind me was Fred, one of the warriors that had volunteered to be part of our rescue mission.

“What is it Fred?” I asked tiredly.

“Alpha George has called a meeting.”

“Thank you Fred, I will be right there.”

Fred nodded, before walking back inside the ship.

I sighed again, following behind him.

I walked inside, passed different hallways and warriors lingering around.

My mind drifted off, back to my pack, my twins. The council had agreed to my terms for Anthony to stand in place of Emily, Jackson by his side. And I knew my twins were in good hands.

Still though.

It felt like my family was divided.

I was on a ship onboard to God know’s where in pursuit of my mate, while my children were far behind.

I sighed again, something I keep doing lately.

I was exhausted, every single molecule in my body was withered, tired, and just missing my mate.

Inside the meeting room, Alpha George stood, his head bent as he studied the arrays of reports scattered on the table. Rachel was beside him, alongside Castor, Reed, Alpha George Beta, and Omar, captain of the ship.

Every head snapped up as I entered.

I gave a brief nod to Alpha George, walking towards the table.

“What is it?” I asked, staring at the reports.

“It’s been two weeks now, and apart from the little red dot on that tablet. We have nothing, no sightings of ships, or land. We are just here, floating on this dark large expanse of water, chasing a dot we don’t even know if it’s real.” Omar voiced out, his sharp gaze firmly on me.

I balled my hands, turning to look at each and everyone. I could see it on their faces, the whispers flying around the ship, the weariness, the tiredness, the restlessness.

I could see it, feel it even.

To them this mission was doomed before we even started and two weeks without any lead was strongly confirming that doubt.

I sighed, rocking on my heels, my arms folded tightly against my chest.

“As Rachel has assured me, that tiny dot is Emily. And if what happened four days ago was any indication, it means that Emily is alive and moving. We have come too far to have doubt now, we knew this mission wasn’t going to be easy, and every one onboard this ship took that chance. I am not giving up.” I stared at Omar, my sharp hard gaze staring him down, daring him to say one more word.

More than others, his input, his quite grumbling about how crazy this mission was, was starting to get on my nerves. All it would take was for someone like him to start whispering the wrong things to already tired warriors.

Rachel stepped forward, placing the tablet on the table. “Four days ago, we witnessed more activity than most days. From my analysis and calculations, i would say something happened on the ship, and with the movement of Emily, I bet it was something serious. As you know, I have been studying Emily for some time now, quite a bit of research that I believe may come in handy now.”

I stared at Rachel, then everyone gathered around.

When Rachel had told me that Emily had agreed for her to study her astral projection, I won’t lie, my first reaction had been heartbreak.

I mean why wouldn’t she tell me about something like this, but now, standing here, I was grateful.

I am sure she had her own reasons, and I trust that reason.

“What research are you talking about?” Reed asked.

“Some of you gathered here already know, but for the rest, one of Emily’s gifts is astral projection. Right now, something seems to be blocking her mental connection to her pack, her mate. If not we would have gotten a message from her. Still though I believe with my research I could bypass whatever that blockage is.”

“How?” Omar asked, pacing around. “I mean I don’t know much about science and all that shit, but wouldn’t you need Emily here for your research or whatever?”

“Not necessarily.” Rachel answered, her hands moving over her tablet screen. “Like I said, this red dot you see on this screen isn’t just a chip. It’s a microorganism, that’s why Zed can’t detect it. It’s infused with Emily. Now I created a safe keep, something like a signal to jumpstart Emily’s mental connection should it ever be warranted.”

“Why the fuck have we been sitting ducks, floating around, when you had something like this laying around?” Alpha George cried out.

Rachel threw him a very nasty glare, before resuming whatever she was doing.

“Like Omar here said, it’s easier if Emily was closer, but since she isn’t I had to wait, bid my time till my one way ticket could appear, and thankfully it did, four days ago. Whatever Zed did to Emily, gave me everything I needed to activate the chip.”

“So, in simpler terms. What does that mean?” Castor who has been silent all this while asked, stepping forward.

“Well.” Rachel sighed, staring at me. “Roman, I will need to use the wave research I conducted on you. Since you are bonded to not only Emily, but Chiara also. I will need to activate your wolf’s consciousness.”

“Wait.., what? How the fuck are you going to do that? I can't do astral projection, only Emily can.” I say, staring at Rachel.

“You know what you told me about? We can use that. There is a reason the moon goddess blessed you and Emily with this gift.” Rachel says softly.

“What are you guys talking about, what did Roman tell you?” Omar sneered out.

I gritted my teeth, turning to face Omar.

Really, if not for the fact that I needed him to steer this fucking ship, believe me, i would have thrown him overboard.

“Well, if you must know. Emily and I share a mental connection, one that goes deeper than I can even explain. We can communicate telepathically, and four days ago, when the red dot went crazy, I heard her, though it was brief, merely a second and before I could get a proper hold of our connection, it was closed, sealed tight.”

“That is to be expected,” Rachel says. “From the little I know of Zed, I suspect he has a cuff on Emily, acting as a signal blocker. Luckily, my chip is an organism, so the cuff won’t work on it.”

“Hold the fuck up. What are you talking about? Telepathic connection, science and all this shit. How can we trust that this will get us anywhere huh, have you seen the warriors, most of them are seasick, tired or agitated. It’s only a matter of time before their wolves become restless, aggressive.”

I turned towards Omar, walking forward so I was facing him square on. “Listen here, I don’t know what your fucking problem is. But I will advise that whatever the fuck it is, should be buried deep inside that wandering tongue of yours. Every man on this ship knows why they are here, we came this far because of these very things you look down on. I am getting sick and tired of your whining. And if care isn’t taken, my wolf would be the very first aggressive predator you encounter.”

Omar swallowed, backing away from me.

“Roman, don’t listen to him. Come, we have a lot to do.” Rachel says, walking out of the room.

I stared at Omar, before turning towards the others.

I ran my hands through my hair, walking out of the room.

Whatever.

Deep down, I knew Omar was right. I just prayed that what we were about to do, will finally give us a clear lead to Emily.
