Chapter 158 Chapter 158. Animal Intuition
Lysander thought about it seriously for a moment before saying, “There’s nothing I can really do to you when you’re this difficult. I can’t bring myself to scold you. I’d be even less willing to hit you. If I locked you inside the house, I’d be afraid you would become so unhappy that you fell ill. If I tried to threaten you, I’d still be afraid of making you cry. After thinking it over, I suppose the only thing I can do is cling to you and refuse to let go. You were already annoyed half to death by how much I pestered you before, but in the end, there was still nothing you could do about me.”
After saying that, Lysander let out a helpless sigh.
“I suppose I’ll never be able to get away from you for the rest of this life.”
Zoria’s eyes immediately turned red. She wrapped both arms around Lysander’s waist and leaned closely against him. The two of them held each other tightly. They could clearly feel each other’s body heat, heartbeat, and familiar scent. The wolf inside Zoria also gradually settled down as she breathed in Lysander’s familiar scent.
After all the hospital procedures had been completed, Lysander took Zoria away from the hospital. He did not bring her back to her old rented room. Instead, he took her straight to a luxury apartment.
Zoria wanted to return to the place where she had lived before, but Lysander refused at once and gave her no chance to argue with him. The old apartment was clean, but it was far too small and simple. Lysander had agreed to stay there with Zoria before because he had felt that he did not yet have the right to interfere too much in her life.
But things were different now. Zoria had agreed to become his mate, which meant she was now his fiancée. She was the woman who would stay beside him for the rest of his life. Of course Lysander wanted her to live in the best place, use the best things, and wear the best clothes he could give her.
“But my dog, my clothes, and all my luggage are still over there.”
“Don’t worry. I already had someone move everything here.”
Zoria felt helpless, but there was nothing she could do except follow Lysander inside.
The apartment was very spacious. There were many green plants and decorations placed around the rooms. Because of them, the large space did not feel cold or empty at all.
Everything inside was bright, clean, and soft. From the colors to the furniture and daily necessities, every detail had been arranged according to Zoria’s taste. It was obvious that Lysander had prepared this place in advance. He had not simply brought her to some random apartment at the last minute.
To make it easier to take care of Zoria, Lysander had hired several bodyguards, a housekeeper, and a cook who specialized in nutritious meals. Everyone he hired had been required to sign a strict confidentiality agreement so that the news of Zoria’s pregnancy would not be leaked to anyone outside.
Cameras had been installed throughout the apartment, apart from inside the bedroom and bathroom. Those cameras were not there only to guard against thieves. Lysander’s main reason for installing them was to watch for any movement from the Valerius family and stop their people from secretly getting inside.
This was a special time. Zoria was pregnant, and her condition was still not stable. Lysander had to make sure that not even the slightest accident happened to her.
The moment Zoria stepped into the apartment, she asked, “Where is Hamburger?”
Lysander had not expected the first thing she said after entering the apartment to be a question about Hamburger. He had thought that she would at least say a few nice things about the place. After that, she might even be moved when she realized that everything had been prepared according to her own likes and habits.
Zoria had only just finished speaking, and before Lysander could answer her, the sound of a dog barking came from somewhere inside.
Zoria immediately followed the sound. She saw Hamburger standing with his two front paws against a safety gate, his head sticking out from around the corner of the wall. The moment he saw Zoria, he started wagging his tail happily. His tongue hung out of his mouth, and he kept making small, excited sounds.
The lock on the safety gate was close to the floor. Zoria’s belly was already large, so it was a little difficult for her to bend down that far.
Without saying a word, Lysander immediately squatted down and opened the lock for her.
“Be careful. Hamburger has grown very quickly lately. Don’t let him get too excited and knock you down.”
Only then did Zoria notice how much Hamburger had changed. Before, he had only reached her knees, but now he was almost as tall as her thighs. His body had also grown longer, and he no longer looked like the round ball of fur he had been in the past.
As soon as the gate opened, Hamburger rushed straight to Zoria’s feet. Although he was extremely excited, all his movements were very careful. He did not carelessly jump against her body. Hamburger was still a good and sensible dog.
Lysander secretly let out a breath of relief. He supported Zoria as she walked farther inside, then helped her sit down in a chair.
Zoria reached out and rubbed Hamburger’s head. She watched him for a while before saying, “I feel like Hamburger has lost some weight.”
It was not just her imagination. He really had lost a great deal of weight.
Hamburger’s once round body had become longer and thinner than before. Ever since Zoria had been admitted to the hospital, the housekeeper had repeatedly told Lysander that Hamburger refused to eat. He had almost gone on a hunger strike.
In the end, Lysander had been forced to make a phone call and let Hamburger hear his voice as he coaxed him for a while. Only then had Hamburger reluctantly agreed to eat a little. At least he had not truly starved himself.
Lysander did not tell Zoria about any of this. He was afraid that she would become worried, and that the worry would affect her health.
Zoria looked at Hamburger sitting obediently beside her feet, keeping watch over her. Without meaning to, she remembered the day she had left the house.
That day, Hamburger had stood directly in front of the door and refused to let her leave no matter what she did. He had even bitten down hard on the leg of her pants and tried to drag her back inside. At the time, Zoria had not understood why he was reacting so strongly. Now that she thought back on it, she suddenly understood.
