Chapter 43 Truth
Steward on the other end of the phone hadn't finished speaking, but Aubree couldn't listen any longer. Hanging up the phone immediately, her heart and breath seemed to pause for long. After recovering from her surprise, she gradually understood the content of the conversation.
Did Steward just say that Uncle Sidney was in a car accident?
In an instant, Aubree's body went numb, a lump came into her throat, and tears flowed down the corners of her eyes.
She couldn't think about anything else, running out like a madwoman. Her mind was blank, she couldn't figure out how she was going to get to First Hospital, all she knew was that she wanted to see Sidney right away.
In front of her house, she found Riley's car still there. Without hesitation, she got right into the car.
"Take me to First Hospital! Please!" Aubree didn't hide her tears.
Riley was taken aback. Seeing her so panicked, he couldn't help getting nervous. Without asking any questions, he hurriedly ordered the driver to take them to First Hospital.
On the way, Aubree's emotions felt like a roller coaster ride. She was tense and flustered, while her hands clenched into fists feebly and her body chilled gradually.
When they arrived at the hospital, Riley felt uneasy about her and wanted to get out of the car with her, but she stopped him. This was her own family business.
Just after Aubree got out of the car, she saw Steward waiting for her at the hospital entrance.
"Where's Uncle Sidney?"
"Miss, Young Master has to deal with something, so he won't go home tonight. I'll send a driver to take you back." Steward waved his hand and a car drove over.
"What's so important that he has to deal with it even after a car accident? I don't care, I want to see him with my own eyes!"
"Miss, please don't worry. Young Master only suffered some superficial injuries in the car accident, so he went back to work after applying the medicine."
As Aubree heard that Uncle Sidney had only suffered some superficial injuries, she breathed a sigh of relief and the worries weighing on her mind were finally removed; however, she was still a little worried until she saw Uncle Sidney in person.
"Miss, please go back first. Young Master will be home when he's done." Steward seemed to be busy too as he opened the door and gestured for Aubree to get in.
Aubree knitted her brows, although she was reluctant to go home, Sidney must have something important to deal with, and otherwise he wouldn't be so busy. So, she couldn't give him any more trouble.
After sending Aubree back, Steward went to Sidney's office.
Sidney's forehead was wounded, as was his arms, but fortunately these were really only superficial wounds.
"Did she go back?" Sidney sat on the couch expressionlessly, closing his eyes in thought.
"Yes." Steward took out a copy of information and handed it to Sidney. "This is the information we just found. It shows the details of the perpetrator."
Sidney didn't have any movement at first, but then he tiredly opened his eyes and took the information.
"He had been hired as a bodyguard by Robert. He was addicted to gambling and was fired for stealing. A man like him is willing to do anything as long as he is paid," Steward summarized briefly.
Sidney impatiently threw the information away as he sneered with a grim expression, "His style of doing things really never changes!"
"Robert has found out that we're investigating him secretly, and there must be something wrong with our spy."
Sidney nodded. He had expected something to go wrong with the spy. How could a cunning and treacherous man like Robert not notice the disloyalty of his underling?
"He used to think of us only as business rivals, but now he seems to be suspicious of us," Steward said.
When Sidney thought of Robert's disgusting face, he couldn't wait to kill him.
In the past, his mother was defiled by Robert, which had led her to commit suicide. He still remembered how determined his mother's attitude was, and coupled with her husband's unwillingness to protect her, she chose to leave this world without a second thought.
This was all thanks to Robert, who was ostensibly an admirable philanthropist and a husband who was very affectionate with his wife and never had an affair with other women. Other than that, he was also known as the good man of the twenty-first century.
But behind the scenes, he was actually a money-grubbing, lustful as well as profit-oriented villain. The harmony and love between him and his wife was only an illusion.
And this man was Aubree's biological father, but he didn't know that his daughter was still alive in this world.
Back then, Robert had been married and had a son, but he still stepped out on the Wilson family's daughter, who was also Aubree's mother. Afterwards, she found out she was pregnant and freaked out, so she immediately sought back-up and married him. But on the day Aubree was born, the man flew into a rage when he learned she wasn't his child.
Aubrey's mother left Aubree to be raised by her fallen best friend in order to save her own reputation and preserve the Wilson family's name.
And that led to the subsequent adoption of Aubree by Sidney.
