Sofia Bliss

“No!”
I whispered it the moment I saw Edgar walking through that door—
alone—
And when I realized what he had done, that Edgar had betrayed us, something inside me collapsed.
He was our only hope.
I thrashed against the restraints, even weak, even dizzy, with my consciousness being drained.
My wolf felt sedated, locked somewhere deep and dark in my mind, chained, powerless.
My legs barely held me up, but my eyes…
my eyes refused to close.
They stayed open, burning, unable to believe what they were seeing.
“Edgar, you son of a bitch!” I screamed, my voice breaking, desperate. “Why? Why did you do this?”
The blood on his clothes, the absence of the others.
I didn’t want to believe it—
But it was the truth.
That blood was theirs.
The ones who were supposed to be here now.
My chest tightened, harder, deeper.
What… what had he done to them?
I asked myself even though I already knew the answer.
And while that truth ripped through me, chaos erupted in front of my eyes—
And I…
I couldn’t do anything.
I was completely useless with that collar and those shackles.
I saw Luke approach Adrian, his men surrounding him, guns aimed.
And when he said:
“…I will proclaim Sofia as my wife.”
I saw the wolf inside Adrian explode as he lunged with everything he had.
Then the gunshot thundered through the air—
A sound so loud it made me shut my eyes, nearly deafening me.
And it didn’t stop.
Because after the first blast came another.
And another.
I kept my eyes shut—
I couldn’t open them.
I was terrified of what I would see if I did.
My ears rang with the sound, and the silver burned through my body, making me even dizzier.
When the deafening noise finally stopped,
When I was able to open my eyes again—
it felt like everything moved in slow motion.
I saw Adrian covered in blood.
His shirt stained, dark, wet, and dripping as he still tried to stand.
Even wounded, even after all those gunshots—
He didn’t stop.
He kept trying to get up.
Only then did everything click inside my mind.
Only then did the pieces lock into place.
And I started screaming with everything I had left.
“Stop! Stop!” I cried out, my voice shredded. “You’re going to kill him! Stop it now!”
They didn’t hear me.
Or they didn’t care.
Their arms lifted again.
And they fired.
One more.
Two.
Three.
It was like I felt every one of those bullets, like each one tore through my own body.
I… my wolf inside me… we were both panicking.
Trapped, unable to do anything.
For the first time, I felt his fear—
raw fear—
It was like something was tearing apart inside me, like a line binding me to Adrian was snapping, like it was our flesh being ripped apart.
And that pain—
It didn’t compare to anything I had felt before.
Not when I lost my mother.
Not when I thought I had lost my father.
This—
This was what it felt like to lose everything.
“Let me go!” I screamed louder, fighting the hands restraining me. “Let me go! Now!”
My body failed.
My strength was gone.
I collapsed to my knees while they still held me, my heart beating too fast, my thoughts a chaotic mess.
No, fuck, this isn’t happening.
This can’t be happening!
Not him…
I looked at Adrian.
And his eyes met mine.
And what I saw there—
It wasn't the teasing he always threw at me.
Wasn’t his stupid arrogance.
It was something sad.
Something painful.
Was it a goodbye?
No… no…
I won’t let this happen.
I won’t let them kill you.
Not you.
Luke walked toward him slowly.
And then—
He lifted a gun.
Pointing it straight at Adrian’s forehead.
That despicable bastard.
“No!” I screamed through sobs, my voice wrecked, desperate, stripped of all dignity. “Please, don’t! I’ll do anything!”
The sobs came hard, the words tumbling out of me in pieces.
“Anything! Anything! I’m already here, aren’t I? I’ll stay; I’ll obey!” I begged. “But don’t kill him. Please. For the love of God.”
I repeated it.
Over and over.
Until my throat burned, until my tears blinded me.
Luke turned and walked toward me.
He crouched down in front of me.
His eyes locked with mine—
Then his hand gripped my chin.
“You still don’t understand, Sofia.”
He leaned closer. His face was so near I could feel his breath.
He studied me, and I… froze. My body was in shock.
His finger slid slowly up, wiping my tears like it was affection.
I tried to turn my head away, to bite him, anything—
But he tightened his grip.
“I need you whole,” he continued, calm. “And there’s only one way for that to happen.”
My breath hitched.
“I thought taking your father from you, the people you love, would be enough,” he said, pensive. “But it wasn’t. Because you already formed a bond.”
The meaning hit me like a blade.
“You and Adrian…” He smiled. “You were linked. Destined.”
That—
“The wolf in him held yours together. And yours held his.”
He leaned even closer, his voice now brushing my ear.
“And I needed to break that.”
No…
“The only way to do that,” he finished, “is by killing Adrian.”
I couldn’t take it. I thought I would lose my mind.
“You monster!” I screamed, my voice raw. “That’s why my mother ran away—you! All of you! You’re sick! You’re demons!”
Luke stepped back, leaving me thrashing in the hands of six men, screaming alone.
“Edgar,” Luke said casually, “whenever you’re ready.”
My entire body threatened to collapse at those words—
When he told Edgar to finish what he was about to do.
The wolf inside me went wild, thrashing against the walls of my chest, trying to break free, trying to somehow save Adrian, trying to hold onto whatever life he had left.
I don’t know how—
if it was me or my wolf—
But I shoved the two men holding me with everything I had.
I broke free.
Even with my wrists shackled, I ran. I threw myself forward, desperate.
I had to do something.
I had to stop it.
“NO!”
I lunged toward them—
And then I heard the click of the gun.
And right after, the shot.
I hit the ground, the pain burning through my body, and then—
I heard the heavy thud of Adrian’s body hitting the floor beside me.
Blood sprayed across the wall.
No…
He shot him…
“ADRIAN!”
I crawled toward him as fast as I could, my knees scraping across the floor, my shackled hands trembling. All I wanted was to touch his face, feel his skin, and hear his voice.
“No… no…” I sobbed. “Please, talk to me. Please.”
Nothing.
Not a sound came from him.
All that remained were his eyes—
open, completely empty—
and the bullet hole
dead center in his forehead.
And in that moment, something inside me shattered completely.
That unreal pain.
That unbearable emptiness.
My wolf went silent, lost, and discouraged.
And all I could do was scream until there was no voice left in me.
I pulled and fought against the shackles with everything I had, feeling my wrists bleed beneath the silver, but it was useless.
I couldn’t break them.
I couldn’t touch him.
And that abyss—
the one that always swallowed me whenever I lost something—
Now it swallowed me whole, along with everything else I had ever loved.
The human part of me rose on one last impulse, staggering.
I had to kill that bastard.
I had to make him pay.
He couldn’t walk away from this.
He couldn’t win.
But when I lunged at him, I didn’t get far.
Something struck the back of my head—
Hard.
Everything spun.
Voices drifted away.
Letícia started screaming my name.
And before everything went dark,
I still heard:
“Take her to the cage,” Luke said, satisfied. “We’re preparing for the full moon.”
A pause.
“The night of conception.”
