Chapter 31 Chapter 31

Chapter 31 Chapter 31
"Scarlett!" I jerked away from Alpha Keegan, panting to catch my breath. "Wh-why... nothing is..."
She slowly crouched to pick her phone up and walked up to us, her blue eyes were squinted in awe as she stared between both of us. "What's going on?"
"N-nothing is going on. What do you mean? Nothing at all. I-it's.. uhm.... I... I don't. It's not. Nothing, I promise." My chest was rising and falling faster than normal.
"What's wrong with you?" Alpha Keegan frowned, furrowing his eyebrows at me in confusion, his eyes returned to its normal shade of amber. "You look like you're about to pass out."
"I've been searching everywhere for you, Jane. There's nothing in your room." Scarlett said, her face had a blank expression that scared me even more. I wondered what was going on in her head.
"Yes... uh... I... my room was.... Alpha Keegan..." I stuttered, unable to find the perfect words to fit as a sentence.
"The omega was almost attacked more than two times. Someone came to her room while she was in, and the person could hide his scent, which is very suspicious. Since she's the weakest member of the pack and is more prone to attacks, I've decided that she'll sleep in my room. I forgot to let you know."
Scarlett's eyes were agape at this new piece of information for a second till she regained her composure and nodded. "That's strange. I'll make sure we do our findings about it. Were you harmed?" she asked me.
I shook my head and recovered the capacity to breathe properly.
"Is there anything you need?" Keegan asked her and sat on the bed, reaching for his phone.
"Actually, yes. Remember my parents are out of town?" she asked, wearing a smile.
"Okay, so what?" he stared at the phone screen, indirectly letting her know that she had to hurry up.
"Yes. Their wedding anniversary is coming up soon and they'd like for you to be there."
He lifted his gaze to her, a frown forming on his face.
"Please don't refuse. They really need you to be present; their day would be incomplete if you're not there."
"What if I have something to do?" He still didn't look at her.
"No. You don't. I already arranged your activities. You'll be free from work on that day."
Alpha Keegan raised his head, clearly contemplating on a response.
"Please..." She pouted. Was she always a child around him?
"As long as nothing comes in my way, then it should be fine." Alpha Keegan agreed, returning his focus to his phone's screen. When he realized that Scarlett still hadn't left, he lifted his gaze to her again with raised eyebrows. "Is there anything else?"
"No. Actually...yes. There is still a tiny request I have." She said with a nervous grin as she fiddled with her fingers.
"What is it again?" He groaned.
"I need you to pretend to be my boyfriend." She said in one breath.
Alpha Keegan remained without a word, his expression was as blank as ever; he was obviously not expecting that to be her request. After a while of silence, "have you lost your mind?" he asked in a low voice.
"I'm sorry." She added, bowing her head in apology. "Of course I was just a request that'll make my parents happy, but no problems." She feigned a grin at him.
"That's a very stupid and useless request." He rose to his feet and strutted out of the room.
"I know I messed up. I'll try again next time." She sighed, dropping to sit on his bed. "Jane," she lifted her gaze to me, drawing her eyes in askance, "why didn't you tell me about the whole room sharing thing?"
"I'm sorry. I didn't remember. I didn't have the chance to tell you."
"Nothing is going on between you and Keegan, right?" She asked, lifting a brow at me.
"No way. Not at all." I twittered. "I hate Alpha Keegan. Plus, I'm just an ordinary Omega. There is no way anything can be going on between me and the alpha."
"Then were you so close when I walked in?"
"Close?" I chuckled, hoping I didn't sound nervous." Alpha was really angry and was going to punish me. You saved me from almost being killed today."
"Okay, it's a closed case then. Just don't do anything stupid, okay sweetheart?" She took her leave.
I let out a breath, glad she didn't react as I thought she'd have.
What was wrong with Alpha? Why did he act so strangely?

I had nothing to do, so I was very bored and decided to go on a walk. I didn't want anyone to know to avoid having someone assigned to watch me again. I assumed most pack members were gone for pack training or other activities, which meant I still had a few hours to enjoy this freedom. I headed out to the town center. There weren't so many people around at the moment, only a few people with their children.
I continued skipping around, feeling a bit hot underneath my sweater. My skin still burned from the welts and the heat worsened it. I was stuck with wearing a sweater to avoid walking around in bruises. It was all Alpha Keegan's fault and that made me feel more pissed off. I shook every disturbing thought out of my head as I walked. Once again, it started to feel like someone was walking behind me.
"Not this shit again." I turned around and couldn't see anyone around me. I took to my heels and started heading back to the pack house, fear ran through my body as I heard the person's footsteps behind me as I ran.
I glanced backwards and no one was around, just a child with her mother, sitting on a bench on the sidewalk.
Was I imagining things? I stopped and stared around.
The sound of the footsteps were gone. Panting to catch my breath, I twirled around in search of any trace behind the trees, everywhere, still nothing, no one was around me.
I chuckled out of breath. "Jane, you're going crazy. Nothing's wrong." I laughed and started walking towards the pack house. After a few minutes, I could hear the sound of the footsteps behind me again and still tried to convince myself that it was nothing but my imagination.
I was convincing myself and had brushed away every form of fear from me till the sound of the footsteps became even louder and closer, causing the fear to kick back in.
I turned backwards and saw someone in a cloak standing right in front of me. My feet froze, no words could come out of my mouth, I lost the ability to scream for help.
The person covered my mouth with a piece of cloth and pulled me behind the tree by the sidewalk.
