Chapter 194 Betraying Teammates
Elizabeth returned from her visit next door, just as evening was drawing near.
Rebecca hurried out to greet her.
The three of them walked toward the dining room, laughing and chatting. As they lifted the curtain, they saw Alex sitting properly at the dining table.
Elizabeth paused mid-step, then looked at Rebecca with gratified eyes.
Ever since bringing him back to the old house, Alex had eaten, slept, and played in that small courtyard.
Even when Frederick came over, he would eat and drink in the small courtyard, too.
This was the first time seeing him in the dining room.
Seeing Elizabeth, Alex jumped down from his chair and stood properly beside it.
Even without speaking, you could tell what his eyes were saying.
"Good boy..."
Elizabeth smiled as she walked over, patting Alex's head. She didn't even take the head seat, just sat down right next to Alex.
The four of them had a harmonious and lively dinner together.
When Frederick mentioned taking Alex to stay at Pinewood Mansion for a while, Elizabeth readily agreed.
Turning around, she saw Alex looking at Rebecca with excited eyes, looking absolutely delighted.
She looked at Frederick and Rebecca.
Then at Alex.
Elizabeth felt a bit wistful.
After taking a walk with Elizabeth in the courtyard, as it neared nine o'clock and Elizabeth was ready for bed, Frederick finally left with Rebecca and Alex.
The Maybach drove toward Pinewood Mansion, and the car was especially lively.
Rebecca's chattering voice.
Alex's giggling laughter.
Frederick's already cheerful mood got even better.
But not long after returning to Pinewood Mansion, Frederick couldn't smile anymore.
"Frederick, Alex says he's afraid of the dark, so I'm staying with him tonight!"
Even through the door, you could hear the high spirits in Rebecca's voice. Frederick pressed the locked door handle, his voice helpless, "Becca, open the door first."
"No!"
Rebecca refused decisively. "Frederick, it's already late. Go to sleep. Don't you have to get up early for the office tomorrow?"
"Becca, open the door. I need to talk to you!"
"Just talk! I can hear you!"
"...Alexander, I'm counting to three. Open this door! Otherwise...3...2..."
"Alex..."
A shriek accompanied the sound of the door opening. Watching Rebecca go from fearless to panicked, then looking at Alex with resentful eyes, Frederick's eyes were full of amusement.
"Alex, you traitor!"
Even as Frederick scooped her up from the carpet, Rebecca was still arguing with Alex. "Just you wait. Tomorrow I'm going to make you pay a terrible, super incredibly terrible price for betraying your teammate tonight!"
Alex smiled with his eyes curved, looking expectant.
The door opened and closed again. Frederick looked down to kiss Rebecca. "Know why I succeeded?"
"Why?"
"Alex isn't afraid of the dark, but he's afraid of sharing a room with someone, especially at night."
Rebecca fell silent.
