Chapter 18 He Should Be a Little Greedy!
"Did I... Did I fall asleep? You carried me back? Oh my god, I'm so embarrassed!"
Feeling guilty, Rebecca couldn't bring herself to look at Frederick. She jumped out of bed, hung up her down jacket, and darted into the bathroom without a backward glance. "I'm so tired, I need to wash up first!"
The bathroom door clicked shut.
The bedroom fell silent.
Frederick glanced toward the bathroom, a slight smile tugging at his lips.
The sensation of her soft skin lingered on his fingertips, and his gaze deepened.
He should have been a bit greedier!
Just a bit more, and he could have touched her a little longer.
Then, he would have seen her wake up in a panic, pretending she hadn't been asleep.
Frederick clenched his fist, as if trying to hold onto that fleeting touch.
As the sound of running water filled the room, he imagined her standing beautifully under the shower, warm water cascading down her flushed cheeks.
Frederick abruptly stood up and walked to the window, trying to rein in his wandering thoughts, though his body still reacted involuntarily.
A flash of frustration crossed his eyes.
In the bathroom, Rebecca's embarrassment finally began to fade as she finished her shower.
She grabbed a towel, dried off, and was about to put on her robe when she froze, arms outstretched.
Afraid Frederick might see her blushing face and realize she had been pretending to sleep, she had rushed into the bathroom at lightning speed.
But she had forgotten something very important!
She hadn't brought her robe!
This is so... awkward.
Should she just go out wrapped in a towel?
It's late at night, and Frederick might think she's trying to seduce him.
After contemplating for a while, Rebecca resigned herself to her fate and knocked on the bathroom door. "Frederick? Frederick, are you there?"
Silence.
"Frederick, I..."
Before she could muster the courage to ask for help, the bathroom door opened.
A sliver of warm orange light from the bedroom spilled in.
Frederick's silhouette was barely visible as he stood by the wall, holding out her robe.
"Thank you!"
Rebecca breathed a sigh of relief and quickly grabbed the robe from his hand, shutting the door swiftly.
As she looked at the white robe, all she could think about was him undressing her.
Rebecca glanced up and saw her own reflection in the mirror, her eyes sparkling and cheeks flushed.
Her heart started racing again.
She couldn't keep thinking like this!
Shaking her head to dispel the romantic thoughts and the ones that made her heart race, Rebecca put on the robe, wrapped herself tightly, dried her hair, and stepped out of the bathroom.
Frederick was putting on his coat.
Rebecca paused. "It's so late, are you going out?"
"You should sleep first."
The thought that she would rather pretend to sleep than be alone with him darkened Frederick's gaze. "I have plans with a friend, I'll be back later."
Rebecca nodded, visibly relaxing.
Frederick could even sense the little person inside her breathing a long sigh of relief.
He turned and walked out the door.
The Maybach sped out of the alley and, after about ten minutes, stopped in front of a quiet townhouse.
In the suite at the end of the hallway, Frederick entered, and the people playing cards at the table all paused to look up at him.
