Chapter 320 Maybe not?

Chapter 320 Maybe not?
Through a maze of halls, finally into a room that he was sure wasn’t her bedroom. The bed was strewn with velvet, and flowers were scattered across it. A small pillow was at the top, ready for her to lie upon. Dakaath lay her gently on the pillow. He arranged her hair on the pillow, kissing her forehead.

Her lace dress was too long for this bed; it trailed off the side, gathering. Candles were lit around the room, with two large pillar torches in the corners. When he looked up, he saw Rayne standing by the door.

“I wondered when I would see you.” Dakaath didn’t look into her eyes, only at Ailive.

“Staying away from Nix is smart right now. I am sure she believes I am to blame. Though I would never wish harm on this beautiful child. Ailive was an amazing woman.” Rayne spoke with such sorrow in her voice. When she took a few steps toward her, Dakaath had to catch her.

“Take your time,” Dakaath whispered as he helped her to a chair that was set up.

“Xylia killed her,” Rayne whispered as she sat looking at Ailive. The sorrow and disbelief in her words shocked him.

“You could say that, but she didn’t do it because she wanted to. Ailive wanted to stop the war, so she offered to take our place when she spoke to her in Ashland.” Dakaath told her his voice was breaking. “I know that you and Dimitri had sent my father to take her place, but something had pulled her to Xylia.”

“What?” Rayne asked, looking shocked.

Dakaath explained what happened to Rayne, seeing the shock in her eyes. Then the despair. Dakaath wanted to go back, to that night when she wanted something more. When he told her he wanted to do things right. She had known then and there.

“True love!” Rayne yelled as she jumped up. “It is why she hasn’t started to decompose.”

“What?” Dakaath looked at her like she had lost her mind. “She is dead.”

“I know that, Dakaath, but she has been dead for almost a week. How many bodies have you seen that haven’t started to stink by now?” Rayne asked him, then gasped when she turned to see Nix.

“How dare you!” Nix yelled as she charged at Rayne. “My daughter is dead because your child couldn’t control her blood lust.”

Rayne caught Nix before she could swing. Holding her friend close, she let her scream and fight, crying as she called Rayne horrible names.

“Nix, I know you are upset, but I don’t think she is dead,” Rayne told her, which made Nix go limp in her arms.

“What?” Dakaath looked at Rayne like she was insane. “She is gone.”

Ailive looked around, seeing the people around her. They all looked dead, but she knew they were alive. Something wasn’t right about this situation. Had she died? Everything changed in one moment when she felt pain in her neck, then everything went black.

“Child.” A voice floated down to her; it seemed to be around her.

Ailive turned to see a woman standing beside her. She glowed white with bright light that Ailive had trouble looking at. Had to be the goddess, but why would she be talking to her? Ailive wasn’t anything special. Just a woman who had died, or had she? The long white gown the goddess wore was floating around her, but there was no wind here. Long blonde hair that shone like the sun. It really was amazing to see her like this. Ailive smiled at her and could look into her golden eyes.

“Goddess, I am blessed to see you.” Ailive couldn’t seem to look upon the goddess.

“Ailive you aren’t meant to be here.” She spoke to her, but it seemed more like a whisper. Like it was in her mind.

“Why do you say that?” Ailive asked, looking around her, not sure where she was.

“Xylia wasn’t meant to kill you. You had a bright future ahead of you. Dakaath was meant to marry you. So many years ahead of you.”

“I see, but I am here instead. Does it really matter?” Ailive didn’t understand what she meant. Did it really matter now?

Her mind wasn’t working like it did when she was alive. It wandered around here, like she wanted to see what was going on over in the corner. A young man was sitting there looking at a pond. Then, over in another corner, a large mud puddle had two young boys in it, who were crying. Ailive looked at an older man who was sitting on a rocking chair, looking so happy.

“Ailive, you must pay attention.”

“What now?” Ailive snapped back to what she was saying.

“You can’t stay here.”

“Why?” Ailive didn’t understand. Wasn’t she supposed to be here?

“Your light isn’t out. It isn’t here.” The Goddess told her with a shake of her head.

“Why isn’t it here? I mean, I am here.” Ailive patted her body, making sure she was here.

“When Xylia drained you, she took part of your light, but not all of it. She didn’t want to kill you. In truth, she did kill you. Your body should be dead, but it isn’t. So you can’t stay here. Somehow, part of your light is still alive.” The goddess told her with a smile.

“Why are you happy about that?” Ailive asked, looking shocked that she would be happy that she could go back.

“They love you so much that a part of your light is still alive. How is that possible?” The Goddess demanded an answer, but she couldn’t give it to her.

“No idea, I have no idea what you are talking about.” Ailive looked confused, then she heard the voice. One that she loved.

“He hasn’t left your side.” The Goddess told her. “Dakaath was meant to be your mate.”

“I believe that,” Ailive told her with a smile. “But I am dead.”

“Rayne, you have lost your mind!” Nix screamed at her.

Aarshon ran into the room with Aarmeris behind him. Lindaat came into the room with Corin and Alithyra behind her. Dakaath couldn’t believe this many people were in the room. They were all looking at Rayne and Nix like they had lost their minds. When Xylia and Ehlark came into the room, they all stopped talking.

“What is going on?” Ehlark asked when he looked at Rayne, then to Nix.

“She thinks that Ailive isn’t dead,” Nix screamed, pointing to Rayne.

“What?” Xylia looked at Rayne with hope in her eyes. “Why would you think that, Mom?”

“As much as it is going to upset Nix. Look at her, she isn’t decaying. No smell, nothing.” Rayne told everyone. As she waved her hand toward Ailive, she looked like she was alive, just sleeping.

Each looked at Ailive, then to Rayne. When Aarmeris entered the room, she could see that he understood what she meant.

“Her light isn’t gone,” Aameris explained as he looked to Rayne. He understood because wanted more then anything to see his little light come back to this world.
